in developing some of the most advanced safety technologies as

well as cutting-edge engineering and construction techniques.

Ultra-high tensile strength steelNo ordinary, run-of-the-mill steel, the ultra-high tensile strength steel is a

high performance special steel alloy applied to safety-critical areas of the

body shell where additional strength reinforcement is required. The benefit

is superior crashworthiness.

Hot stamping methodPremium ultra-high tensile strength steel is used in key body

areas to maximise strength. But the steel is so hard it must

first be pre-heated to 900 C before stamping. This Hyundai

innovation offers more protection to the driver and passengers

in the event of a collision.

Brake Assist SystemBAS measures the speed with which the brake pedal is depressed. When panic

braking is detected, the Brake Assist System automatically develops maximum brake

boost in order to mitigate a drivers tendency to brake without enough force.

A. 9-Airbags Protection

With nine airbags, including each driver and passenger airbags, two side curtain airbagsand four thorax airbags at the outboard seating positions plus a new airbag offering driverknee protection, i40 takes every possible precaution to reduce the risk of serious injury.

B. Knee Airbag

Installed just below the steering column, this new airbag is designed to reduce the risk ofserious injuries to the drivers legs and knees in the event of a frontal collision (Premiumonly).

C. Hill-Start Assist Control

This technology brings peace of mind and ends all anxieties about the vehicle rollingbackwards (HAC holds the vehicle on a hill for up to 2.5 seconds) when the foot is taken offthe brake after a stop on a steep hill (Premium only).

D. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)

Electronic stability control (ESC) improves the safety of a vehicles stability by detectingand minimising skids. When ESC detects loss of steering control, it automatically appliesthe brakes to help steer the vehicle where the driver intends to go. Vehicle StabilityManagement (VSM) system helps maintain control of the vehicle by applying counter-steering assistance, guiding you to the correct steering position.

E. Reverse Camera

To provide greater safety when reversing, an image of the area behind thevehicle shows on an LCD screen thats incorporated into the electro-chromaticrear view mirror (Premium only).

F. Park-Assist System
