Matthew 11:28-30“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

BONDSERVANT

1. God is a Worker- God gets His Hands Dirty- Jesus was a Carpenter with Calloused Hands - Jesus Greatest Work is Salvation

BONDSERVANT

2. We are Made to Work- We work like God Works - We take Chaos and Create

MASTERS

We all have Masters over us - Ultimately we have One Master: God & we work for Him- There is no Hierarchy to Work - Work is not about Money

I Cor 10:31 whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.Col 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

HONOR

Honoring our Masters Means: we work with integrity, honesty, we go above and beyond, we give them our best

We honor our Masters even when they don’t deserve it & we don’t feel like it

When we honor our Masters: 1. God’s name is not Reviled 2. God’s teachings are not reviled

SLAVERY

1. Biblical instruction on a topic does not mean acceptance 2. Bible condemns kidnapping & forcing people into slavery

(Ex 21:16 punishment is death) 3. Slavery in Biblical world was different than slavery in US

(not based on race or skin color)

APPLICATION

Ephesians 2:8-9For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

1. Rest in Jesus’ Finished Work

APPLICATION

‘..Give us our Daily Bread..’..the farmer who planted, the harvester, the truck driver, the factory workers in the food

processing plant, the baker who made the flour into bread, the warehouse men, the wholesale distributors, the stock boys, the lady at the checkout counter, the person who

prepared our meal. Also playing their part are the bankers, futures investors, advertisers, lawyers, agricultural scientists, mechanical engineers, and every other

player in the nation’s economic system. All of these were instrumental in enabling you to eat your morning bagel. (Veith 13-14)

2. Work for God’s Glory

APPLICATION

Redemptive work (God’s saving & reconciling actions)Creative work (God’s fashioning of physical & human world)Providential work (God’s providing & sustaining of humans, creation) Justice work (God’s maintenance of justice). Compassionate work (God’s work of comforting, healing, guiding) Revelatory work (God’s work to enlighten with truth)
