“I Hope You Know” I Surrender All
Would there ever be a reason you would walk off your job? For some reason, men like Peter, James, John, and Matthew walked off their jobs. They had to have a reason. There had to be something they saw and believed in, something which caused them to think they should. For in that moment, that something was Jesus. You cannot see Jesus if you are not looking for Jesus! You cannot commit
to something greater than you if you do not believe that something greater exists. The humble spirit and the open heart hears the call of the Lord and believes His way is the better way. Has Jesus lost His appeal? I’m not content to believe anything remotely close to that notion! I am convinced however, we’ve lost our appeal as Christians, when we present to a world merely a Christian spin on the same life they’re living, and don’t give them a living example of convicted and contrite hearts, who could blame those who want little to nothing to do with the Lord? You cannot surrender to Jesus if you are convinced your life is just as good as others who have sinned and have surrendered to Jesus. The phrase “I surrender all” may not be something we think of as a lifestyle, but it is one needed to live as a life for the Lord. Surrender is to cease resistance to an enemy or an opponent, and submit to their authority. When in darkness and sin, we are enemies against our Lord Jesus Christ, when we surrender, and cease to resist Him, we finally find the blessing He intends for our lives and for our eternity. Surrender becomes our salvation. Through this year, our challenge to all who come our way will be to surrender all to our Lord Jesus! To go somewhere you’ve never been, you want to follow someone who’s been there, because that someone knows the way. Do you know the best way to get there? You ask, can I follow you? Some 36 times in the new testament, Jesus, and Jesus alone, utters the phrase or a form of the phrase, “Follow me.” Why not? He’s been here and He’s going back there.
Some way, some how, we all have a boat of Luke 5, we need to pull ashore and leave it there in order to follow Jesus. Some may have a boat of lifestyle, something that is keeping you from seeing Jesus. Maybe it’s your life from paycheck to paycheck, and you always blame the bills and never blame your behavior. Maybe it’s your life from person to person, waiting for the right person to come along and bring the value and meaning to your life you so desperately want, but lack the confidence to see, you already have it because you were created in the image of God. Maybe it’s your life from pain to pain, because you refuse to forgive your enemies of the past, and so you always find pain in today and the pain tomorrow, when Jesus is ready to help you forgive others because of how He has forgiven you. Maybe it’s your life from problem to problem, always fighting, fighting with your spouse, fighting with your boyfriend or girlfriend, fighting with your kids, fighting with strangers, or just mad at the world and to be honest, you cannot figure out why. I hope you know, following the Lord Jesus Christ and surrendering all to Him and His will can bless your life now and in eternity .
When they pulled their boats to shore, they forsook all
and followed Him” (Luke 5:11). They had just had the greatest day of fishing, the largest catch of their life. It was not like winning the lottery, it was not enough to allow them to retire, but they certainly would have been inspired to keep fishing, if they could fish like that often. Jesus called them to another life another work, and they left everything they had ever known, and followed Jesus.
A GREAT WAY TO START THE NEW YEAR! We had a huge crowd for the first Junior High Fireside of the
new year. We had our study over Matthew 13:44-46 as we discussed what are we willing to “sell it
all” for. Thanks to Jim & Leslie Hudgins and Chris & Jenny Teet for hosting the night! Thanks to Griffin
Elkins and Colby Shelton for helping with the games too!
I HOPE YOU ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE of the
Monthly Bible Studies. Matthew & Cissy Dotson and Derek & Rachel Newsom lead these at their homes.
It is just an hour a month, but it is a deep study into scripture and one that you will benefit from greatly.
Thanks to the Dotsons and Newsoms for their love and example for our Youth Ministry and these
young people! SPARKS & INTERMEDIATES bowling and
games is this Saturday at Thunder Ally. The bus will
leave at 12:00 noon for an afternoon of fun. Plans are to be back by 4:00. Cost will be $4-$8 for
bowling depending on one or two games, shoes will be free. Also, you might want to bring some extra
for a snack and games you want to play. Any parents that would like to join us, we would love to
have you go! A BUSY TIME IS ALREADY BEING PLANNED,
LORD WILLING… Just looking over the calendar
from now until July and I get a little dizzy. Besides the monthly times together plus Firesides, Prayer
Breakfasts, Bible Study, Lighthouses, and Sparks & Intermediate get-togethers, we have some big
times together coming your way. The Senior Spotlight/Senior High Retreat and the Lad & Dad
Retreat in February. The Father & Daughter Retreat in March. The Junior High Retreat in April. Senior
Sunday, the Fireside Finale and The Cincinnati Blast
in May. Four weeks of Meribah plus VBS and Daycamp in June. Finally, the Mission Trip out West
for 10 days in July. Sounds tiring, but worth every minute! How and Why do we do it? It is always
about Proverbs 27:17. Sharpening one another as we strive to mold our lives around the example of
Christ. There is not a thing we do in the Youth
Ministry that does not promote that and have a definite purpose behind each. I continue to
challenge you to, keep Praising the great and glorious God we serve. Keep Applying our love to one another and to those who are lost. Keep
Teaching others who Christ is through your example and
encouragement to study. Keep Heightening your personal relationship with God to understand the need to “Surrender All!” In other words...
