LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITIESYou may remember reading about Living Learning Communities (LLCs) in the first edition of the HousingHeadline earlier this summer. Now that many first-year students have their housing assignments, it's agreat time to learn about the benefits of LLCs.

RA Cyprianna hosted a relaxation program for the residents ofthe Professional Golf Management (PGM) LLC where they createdmini gardens like the landscape of a golf course. She also workedwith her Faculty Fellow to plan a trip to Top Golf with residents! RA Mali and the Faculty Fellows for the Engineering LLC invitedfive social and academic Engineering clubs to Garcia Hall forEngineering LLC residents to connect with upper-divisionengineering students and faculty to learn about extracurricularopportunities for Engineering majors!

Themed Programs and Activities- Residents of Living LearningCommunities get to participate in events and activities focusedon the theme of the LLC. Some of our themed programs last yearincluded:

RAs Jake and Angel worked with the Criminal Justice Department Head to take residents of the CriminalJustice LLC on a tour of a working prison to learn about the corrections system in New Mexico!

Integrated Experience- Students who live in an LLChave the benefit of blending their academic, residential, and social lives to have a more meaningful collegeexperience. They make connections with other studentswho share their interests, build relationships withfaculty, and are surrounded by potential study partnersto enhance their success in college.

AGGIE TRADITIONSNoche De Luminarias

This beautiful tradition has been lighting up NMSUfor over 35 years! The first weekend each

December, NMSU partners with the Las CrucesHigh School band to arrange and light over 7,000

luminarias between Corbett Center Student Unionand the NMSU duck pond. A luminaria – also

known as a farolito in Northern New Mexico – is apaper bag lantern weighted with sand and

illuminated by a small candle.

As the sun sets on Las Cruces, the NMSU and LasCruces community gather to enjoy trolley rides,

refreshments, and activities. While this year’s eventmay look different due to social distancing

requirements, this tradition is a bright spot to lookforward to during your time at NMSU.
