Lydia Stark Memorial endowed scholarship
Lydia stark The Lydia Stark Memorial Scholarship was
first awarded to Gilda Pena (Gonzalez) in the Fall of 1973. The scholarship was established in memory of their mother by the daughters of Dr. Larkin E. Stark and Lydia M. Stark, Mrs. Williams I. Latham and Mrs. R.E Fletcher.
She was the first speech therapist in the El Paso area and was a distinguished El Paso civic leader and teacher. She was quoted in a 1966 article of the El Paso Times as follows: “I believe the mind is like any other part of the body—to keep it healthy you must use it”.
