Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - Welcome 2019! Hanna Park Christmas - 2018 Some of the group decided to gather at Hanna Park just before Christmas to celebrate together. Deb, Dan, Sheila, Bob, Jim and D enjoyed some beautiful weather, great fellowship, and - of course - wonderful food. Fun things included dressing up the flamingos (prizes from last year’s gift exchange) with Christmas dec- orations, watching pretty sunsets, and walking the pups (watch out for ticks in the brush!). On Christmas Eve, Bob started the morning with breakfast pita's, then time for shopping. After dinner of ribs on the barbie, the group piled in to go over to Girvin Road to look at Christmas lights - wow, what a sight! Christmas dinner of Standing Rib Roast was prepared by Bob and enjoyed by all. New Year’s (12/27/18 - 1/2/19) Starting on the 27th, folks got busy doing every- day things, like doctor’s appointments, laundry, a trip to the library, and getting the oil changed in the Johnson’s truck. Don and Tressa drove in around 11 a.m., got set up and started enjoying the campground. When everyone got back from their various trips into town, we headed out to European Street Cafe. Besides enjoying the Beer Cheese Soup and sandwiches, we participated (sort of) in the Trivia contest. D was writing down our answers, but since we weren’t going to be there for the finish, we didn’t hand in our answers - Yep - we are just pack full of trivia! After we got back, Bob and Sheila, John, and Don decided to head in for the night, while Sue, Tressa and Deb invaded the McDade’s for several games of Jokers (Jim ‘chaperoned’ us, aided by Brandon and Casey). Hav- ing been beat 3 games to 1, Tressa and D cried Uncle, and we all headed for bed. Friday morning saw Don head out for physical therapy while Deb, D, Jim, Sue, John and Tressa headed to the Beach Hut for breakfast. Joe arrived and got set up; John and Sue headed home to attend granddaughter’s birthday party; Bob and Sheila got back and settled in; and Jan and Michael Allen (1st RV Adventure and 1st visit with us) arrived. Don had gotten back before they came in, so he and Tressa went over to help them get backed in and set up. everyone on the grill - supplemented with baked beans, veggie tray, chips and baked goodies. Since it decided to rain, and everyone was tired, we all went in early. Everyone survived the rain. John and Sue had experienced a little issue at home so were later getting back thanplanned on Saturday. Those at the campground headed out to walk puppies, made trips to WalMart, and waited for thesun to come out. Susan and Robert arrived and got set up, wandered over for a bit of time, sitting and visiting. Afterdinner of “Bring your own meat”, the rain again kept most of us inside. Thanks to Bob and Deb for being our chefs! Tres-sa and D challenged Joe and Deb to more games of Jokers - doing a bit better this time. Sunday saw Sue up early to start breakfast; Tressa tried her ‘Girl Scout skills’ - started a smoldering fire, but fi-nally, with many helping hands, we had our first camp fire! Great breakfast and warm fire - can’t get any better. Whenwe had finished breakfast, we kept the fire going so we could enjoy sitting around visiting. We decided to have an earlydinner (linner?), going to Seafood Express to enjoy their shrimp special (30 shrimp + 2 sides for $10.95). Jan & Michaelstayed in camp as they were expecting some friends to visit. We were joined by past members Trudy Clayton, Carol Ring, and Nate & Kate Deaton, as well as Hank & Julie Pelz and Jyn Fortson. Hank & Julie came back to the camp so they couldenjoy some Hand and Foot with John and Sue; Sheila and Joe ran Tressa by Joann's, while the rest of us gathered aroundthe campfire again. Vida and Joel McCullough, who had planned to camp with us but had to cancel, came by to visit andget to know some of the members (they plan to join us at another campout soon). While the others headed for theirrigs, Sue, Sheila, Deb and Tressa went to the Johnson’s - wished John sweet dreams, and played a bit of Hand and Footbefore calling it a night. On Monday, Don headed out early again for therapy, while Bob started making his famous breakfast pita's withSue’s assistance. Tressa, Joe and John got the fire going again. While we were sitting around enjoying the fire, we werejoined by Leo and Linda - new ‘full-timers’ who had questions. They had recently sold their home, bought a rig and weregetting ready to start heading out. We all shared what we could to make their transition easier - and invited them tocome back if they had more questions or want more information. John & Sue went with Don & Tressa to the AtlanticBeach Arts Market to browse and see what was there - Jan and Michael have a booth there where they display and sellsome of their ‘beach themed’ wood work. This shop offers hand crafted items, some pricey - some good deals, but agreat place to find unique gifts. Back at the campground, lots of walks, sitting and visiting. New Year’s Eve dinner washam, mac and cheese, macaroni salad, ambrosia, baked goodies, sweet potato casserole, stuffed eggs, and much, muchmore. Everyone tried to stay up until midnight - but most gave up around 10:30 p.m., after toasting in the new year andenjoying a few snacks. Happy New Year! Woke up to find John & Sue packing up (they needed to get their rig back to the base), fol-lowed shortly after by Joe (he was headed to a special New Year’s meal with family and friends). Jan & Michael were ableto move into John & Sue’s site (thanks for your generosity), and most everyone got busy doing some ‘housecleaning’ -getting rid of some of the sand tracked in after all the rain. Bob decided the weather was just right for a dip in the ocean(his Polar swim for the year) - brave soul! The rest of the day was spent sitting around visiting, taking long walks, andjust enjoying the sunshine. Some of the group headed to Jollie Bees for chicken, Don & Tressa headed to Sonny’s - in themood for bar-b-que. Sat around the campfire some more, decided we needed to teach Jan how to play Jokers, thenswitched to Sequence - several games before heading in for the night. Time to go home - but before that, a few headed back to Beach Hut for breakfast. A great time - with greatfriends - see you in Lake City at the next campout .
