Atayal, an aboriginal tribe in Taiwan, also has the tradition of facial tattoos, but with complete different meanings. From an international perspective, having tattoos was also considered a symbol of social status. For instance, in ancient Egypt, people used tattoos to distinguish social ranks. Another example is that in Britain, it was a fashion for Victorian women to tattoo red colors on their lips.
