26Though weve been big fans of Girls Generations cute, innocent styling, this year marks their maturation in their music and most notably their approach to styling. It was worth the wait! Join us as we celebrate the girls new revamped look in our first magazine issue!

Weve covered I Got a Boy in our own special way throughout the issue with some familiar content favorites such as make-up and hair tutorials to some surprise new additions (check out our round-up of sneakers worn in the promotional appearances).

We mention that the girls new style is a mix of 80s, 90s and now, and though that may seem like a collocation when lumped together it is aesthetic that has won over fans. Girls Generations comeback has definitely caused a whirlwind of success, from music video views or album sales, Girls Generation started the New Year with break-ing records! The girls made sure to excite fans through their edgy and enticing teaser images, which highlighted their new hip hop and eccentric styling. One thing the teaser images had in common was the use of the staple item denim; lets take a look at how the girls mixed it up in style through their fashionably vintage denim items.

5Yoona revolutionizes her style for I Got a Boy! The teaser and album images show Yoonas edgy new look with her Harley Davidson moto denim vest, which was backed with leather and embellished studs and pins emphasizing her rock-star appeal. Yoona matches her denim vest with a Lazy Oaf jumpsuit and statement accessories such as the Fleamadonna cool love necklace and vintage Chanel belt.

Yoona transforms from a doe-eyed angel into a fierce rock star with the help of the vest, hair and make-up that is more sultry and defined than usual, and the addition of strong tattoo designs on her neck and hands.

In the music video, Yoona wears an over-sized light washed denim jacket, the jackets sleeve is lined with colorful printed fabric, multiple smiley face pins and beads that adorn the pockets. Similarly in the teaser image, the jacket gives off a more playful and energetic look, the light color of the jacket off sets the colorful pieces such as her Jeremy Scott collage print leggings and Minnie Mouse printed top that Yoona wears, the whole look mixes both pop and hip hop genres.

6Our Dancing Queen Hyoyeon has received a lot of praise for her latest styling, aside from her rainbow streaked hair, Hyoyeon makes fans smile with her bright personality and cheerful ensemble. The vivid colors makes her denim jacket stand out, the bolero denim jacket has a cropped cut with long sleeves that cover her arms.

The jackets shoulder pads are embellished with various colorful crystal and pearl beads. The bright blue wash of the jacket compliments the red bodysuit and TOPSHOP Tortoise print jeans. Her bright blonde hair contributes to the playful, bright look the ensemble is giving.

Unlike the teaser image which showcases the denim jacket as a key item, the music video shows Hyoyeon using the denim jacket as simply a base for her Adidas Leopard track jacket. The light wash of the jacket makes the main colors of yellow, black and white more visible.

7Tiffany shines like an R&B princess for her teaser image! Her denim jacket mixes the elements of femininity and edge with its light wash, visible stitching and minimal distress. The jacket is decorated with crystals, beaded pearls, chains and to add a feminine touch, a butterfly brooch.

Tiffanys outfit color is dominantly hot pink (which as we all know, is a color she loves); she accessorizes with more pink with her beaded and chain necklace with large gold charms and an embellished statement cap. The denim jacket, although a statement piece in itself, helps blend the many colors of the overall look.

The head-to-toe outfit is featured in the music video. Tiffany pairs the jacket with edgy and strong pieces such as black high waisted shorts, tattoo stockings and completes it with red Jeffrey Campbell Venice Sneakers.

8Yuri mixes up 80s fashion with modern hip hop style for her album image. The over-sized bleached denim jacket is very reminiscent of late 80s to early 90s pop, unlike the other denim jackets the rest of the girls wore, Yuris has minimal embellishments (which are scattered crystals on the shoulder area of the jacket). What made this jacket stand out was the washed out color, and the fringe details below the shoulder of the jacket. The jacket helps mix up the look, giving it an 80s feel was a modern twist.

9Sunny goes to the extremes with her denim jacket! The denim jacket has an Americana style and it evokes 80-90s era fashion. The use of leopard fur patches is contrasted again the light denim wash juxtaposing two different textures against one another. The music video shows Sunny wearing a destroyed white top, she paired the top with distressed denim shorts, printed tattoo stockings, VAGX Madhatter statement cap, red spiked sneakers, and lets not forget her ever-changing hair color, phew!

With all of these items/aspects, the denim jacket somehow manages to stand out; the denim jacket is used as a statement

piece keeping the outfit balanced in its non-destroyed state rather than drowning in amongst the array of mismatched pieces. While the teaser image only features the denim jacket on Sunny, making it a statement piece that sets the mood of the look.

Teaser/Album images of Taeyeon caused quite a style stir, featuring Taeyeon in less than what we are used to! Taeyeon wears an oversized denim vest, has a print of Donald Duck on the back and few button embellishments on the side. The visible stitching and lining, colorful prints and buttons shows how eccentric and fun the outfit is.

Taeyeon wears a heavily beaded corset with beads of different shapes, sizes and colors made by Korean brand Bell & Nouveau, metallic shorts, and of course, her statement blonde fringe wig. The denim vest is dated, but it is incorporated with unique and customized

items making the whole outfit very fashion forward.

Another teaser image shows Taeyeon in the hip hop/R&B theme which most of the girls went for. The denim jacket has a darker wash with more gem and patch embellishments covering the shoulder area. The jacket is paired with a simple Stussy statement shirt and Thraser cap. Though the jacket has more added accessories, it is put together perfectly with simple yet strong pieces that do not overwhelm the look.

Sooyoung emulates a cute and funky vibe in her teaser image wearing a acid wash denim jumpsuit, which was of course embellished in the shoulder area with patch detailing on the pocket and pant area.

The cute element came with the patch designs of the jumpsuit, the patches were decorated in bright youthful colors of yellow, pink, red and green, with prints of stars, drawing-like motifs and photographs. The denim jumpsuits silhouette is reminiscent of 80s hip-hop fashion with the bright pink bra-let and colored accessories that bring the look to life.

The music video shows the whole look revealing added elements below the waist such as the yellow/red printed belt and Adidas sneakers that add to the cute and funky theme.

Still maintaining her maknae member image, Seohyun looks youthful and innocent in her album solo shot. Seohyun wears a bleached moto denim jacket with large red, white and blue star prints. This denim jacket differs from what the other girls wore as it is absent of bead/crystal embellishments and patches. The bold and colorful prints are enough to make the jacket a key and unique item. The jacket is matched with a printed white shirt with an orange skull pin, and styled with a pink handkerchief used as a hair accessory.

The style changes for the music video look, the denim jacket creates a retro sporty vibe for

the outfit. Seohyun wears the jacket with a Mickey Mouse shirt, striped House of Holland jeans, and to add to the retro feel, red wedge sneakers with yellow leg warmers. The album image and music video feature the same denim jacket showing the versatility of the jacket.

The best word to describe Jessicas teaser image: BOMBSHELL! Jessica was not afraid to show some skin, and in most of her teaser/album images she is covered teasingly with a bright blue, oversized, Mickey Mouse print denim jacket. The jacket helps Jessica not make the look overly revealing or too sexy; it manages to make the look more playful and feminine.

The jacket layers a pastel pink bra top with dark blue lace lining, red high-waisted shorts and is styled with beautiful braided locks. To top it all off, a pair of white Converse high top sneakers keeps the playful, youthful style.

Another teaser image showcases a less sexy but more fun look of Jessica. This time, she is wearing a dark denim vest filled with statement patches. Jessica is ready to sing like a rising 80s pop star with this ensemble, elements such as the large pearl bead necklace and leopard cat hat with the denim vest contributes to that appeal.

All the girls wore various denim items, but each fits a different style. Whether it be retro/funky, hip hop, or rock and roll styles, the denim pieces gave life to the teaser/album images and fitting in perfectly with the look and feel of the album.

These three words best de-scribe Girls Generations make-up for their I Got a Boy album, a pleasant change from their usual clear and fresh face looks from their previous albums ( Gee, Oh! and Hoot). Their make-up look featured in teaser/album images in I Got a Boy was spiced up for bringing more edge and excitement to their new album!

The highlight of their make-up was their striking eyes, with the prominent use of eye shadow and eyeliner. Dark hues and metallic shades were mainly used on the likes of Sunny, Yoona, and Tiffany with their eye shadow shaded winged-up, giving a feminine and strong appeal and accentuating the eye shape.

Another main feature for the eye make-up would be thick wing-

tipped/cat eye eyeliner, as seen worn by Taeyeon, Sooyoung, Seohyun, Yuri and Hyoyeon. The eyeliner was layered with a shimmering bronze eye shadow and long black coated lashes, giving a dramatic look.

Jessica is the only one using a non-neutral color for her eye make-up opting for a bright blue eye shadow, but roughly winged to match the girls. Notably

match her red-streaked hair. The girls kept their skin clean and keeping things looking healthy with a satin finish foundation and use of highlighter. Members such as Tiffany and Hyoyeon added a pink blush to the apples of their cheeks for a romantic and youthful look, while Yoona, Seohyun and Jessica contour their face with a light bronzer for more definition and for a sun-kissed glow.

At the KBS Open Concert stage, the girls wore Adidas Originals Hi Sleek Bow Trainers and Metro Attitude Heart Trainers. These trainers, unfortunately, dont have any hidden heels but the funky and cute design makes the girls look energetic and fresh.

At the Music Bank comeback stage, Yoona matches her military-themed outfit with a pair of Adidas Originals winter brown short boots. Koreas winter is known for its chilliness, these boots can definitely keep her feet warm. The special material of the boot can improve heat conduction and the sole is made slightly higher for shock absorption and warmth. These are real sneakers and dont contain any hidden heels, but we can always use removable insoles, right?

When it comes to street fashion, slick baseball caps are probably one of the most prominent key pieces. For this round of promotions, SNSD have adopted not only caps, but also various pieces of headgear, creating a unique blend of quirky, girly and cool. After having gotten a taste of caps from the teaser images, we had them - literally - thrown in our faces in the MV. For the following stage performances too, the caps are whipped out after an initial dance sequence, only to be flung away as the music and mood changes, making them impossible to miss.

The design of the caps, in terms of colour and pattern, are, naturally, an extension and a reflection of the overall look of the individual member. As more outfits are revealed through live performances, we also see more variety in the cap designs. Focusing on the MV, the caps seen tend to go towards black and darker shades of green and blue, but also bright reds and white. Refreshing accent color such as magenta and turquoise are also used, which tie in neatly with the colour scheme of the jacket photos of the album. The prevailing pattern is flecks and specks, mostly in leopard or snake style.

But what makes the girls caps for I Got a Boy so special? Lets take a look!

They are Raw

The caps seen on the girls come from a number of different brands, such as BRATSON, VAGX Madhatter, SMB, and Mishka. Many of them are underground/street fashion brands, and as such, its expected to see some raw imagery: eyeballs, bones, skulls, and skeletons. The printed texts follow suit, with themes of destruction and rebel, making heavy use of the f-word. Much of this is, of course, censored for the sake of public peace.

They are Customized

With controversial motifs on the caps, there is some amount of covering up to do. This is done by adding patches. One popular adornment for this cause are the emblems with the members monograms. Designed by GOODNATION, the emblems are not only seen on the caps, but also on the official homepages, on the album, and as patches or badges in the various outfits.

Another part of the customization isnt about covering up at all, but rather about bringing out the girls in Girls Generation. Apart from the previously mentioned emblems, some caps have been given additional colouring, or pearls and beads in a wide range of shapes and colours, giving them an exhilarating, girlish flair.

By altering the already eye-catching caps, they are made into something more than a simple accessory for the head. They are transformed into personal statement items; headpieces with an attitude, worthy one of the top girl groups in K-pop.

Ever since the teasers, Hyoyeons rainbow hair has been the talk of the town. Her beach blonde hair turned into a candy wonderland. Despite the variety in hair color, Hyoyeon seems the pull off every streak and highlight. However, the colors of Hyoyeon hair gave a sneak preview of the color palette the girls will be using -- something bold, sassy and hipster.

When it comes to dying your hair in multiple colors, remember that Hyoyeons bleach blonde hair became a blank canvas to add the colors. This hair dye is more suitable to the ladies with lighter hair color, but in order to achieve this look, you will really need to at least bleach your hair in order for the colors to stick. In styling, the more colors you

have on the hair, the easier it is to style. But dont get crazy on the colors! Hyoyeons hair was kept at the primary colors (red, blue, yellow + purple) with the slight mix of the colors to create an ombre effect. If you want attention to be drawn to the hair, avoid wearing prints or patterns, so solid colors are the best.

But if you want it wild and colorful, you can get the look of the girls in their various performances.

Red became a prominent hair color for Yoona and Sooyoung. This hair color maybe hard to pull off especially in trying to pair what you will wear for the day.

Styling for this look was kept accented like Yoonas red Lazy Oaf Bodysuit and Sooyoungs red Balmain Jacket.

To the ladies with darker hair, you can achieve this look by adding red as your highlight or to dye the ends of your hair. This is suitable for the girls who want to keep their roots natural, but add a pop of color to the hair.

Keep your make-up simple and clean so that it does not over power the hair. But adding the same shade of lipstick to the overall look, can bring attention back to the face.

Despite the girls use of wigs for the photos, they can still be perceived as real. The color of the hair, make-up and wardrobe is conceptualized well to reveal the new Girls Generation. The term edgy is really put to a literal sense as the cut of their hair have become oddly un-proportional and angular.

These days, anything odd and somehow Avant garde can start a trend! A new era of high fashion. From Seohyuns accidental trim, the uneven full bangs was created. I actually angles the eyes a little bit. It hides one of your eyebrows so if youve had some major mishaps from waxing or pucking the brows, this angular bangs are for you!

Sunnys looks is more on the side swept style. It somehow looks like a reversed side bangs. Tiffanys haircut is Avant garde in the sense that her hair is a blunt cut and the hair color is vibrant, straying from the conventional layered locks.

Not everyone can achieve these hairstyles so try them on wigs first and see how they look like! This can prevent you from experimenting odd hairstyles and cuts! Dont sacrifice your hair~ You might end up using the wigs instead!

BraidsDUTCH BRAIDED PIGTAILS

Procedure:

First, detangle you hair by combing through it and then spray with Tresemme Heat Defense Styling Spray. Then, roughly curl your hair with Conair Infiniti Ceramic Curling Iron. Divide your hair into 2 sections, one on the left and one on the right. To keep the other side away from the face tie it with a hair tie momentarily as you attend to one side. After youve tied one side, you can begin dutch braiding the other side. (Dutch braiding is like French braiding but instead of bringing the strands inward, youre braiding the strands outward) You begin the dutch braid from the top section of the hair. Take a few parts and divide it into three. Start with the middle strand cross it over the right strand. That same right strand is now the middle strand, cross that over to the left strand. The strand you are currently holding in your left hand, you will combine with a section of hair from the left side and cross UNDER the middle strand. Afterwards you continue to the right side, combining a section of hair and crossing UNDER the middle strand.

Repeat steps 6 and 7 until youve reached the end of your hair line. With a hair tie, secure the braid. You may gently tug on the braid to get a fuller effect. Do the same to the other side of your hair, removing the hair tie.

A big barrel iron can create curls that will look more natural that is perfect for this hairstyle.

Also, using a ceramic iron can prevent hair breakage, split-ends and frizzy hair.

Applying a heat protectant can eliminate hair damage due to heat.

3. Comb through the hair as you begin to position a ponytail behind your ears and secure with a momentarily.

4. Attend to one side and begin the usual braid. (The braid will start behind the ear and slightly positioned TO THE SIDE)

5. To start a braid, divide the hair into 3 sections.

6. Take the middle strand and cross it over the middle strand.

7. Your current middle strand will be crossed over the left stand.

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until you reach the end of your hair and secure with a hair tie.

9. Do the same to the other side of your hair, removing the hair tie.

SIDE CROWN BRAID

To create naturally wavy and textured hair that lasts, instead of using a curling iron.

Procedure:

1. Start off by removing any tangles to the hair, by combing through it.

2. Using the beach blow texturizing mist, spray onto hair in sections and scrunch to form natural waves. (You may blow dry using your fingers to create tousled texture)

3. Part your hair to one side, such that one side is thicker.

4. Using the thicker side, start dutch braiding it, but only taking sections of hair from the right side.

5. To start a dutch braid, take top section of the hair and divide it into three.

6. Taking the right strand cross it under the middle strand, with that same strand cross it over the left strand.

7. Then from the right side of your hair, take a section of the hair and combine with the current right strand. Cross that UNDER the middle strand.

8. Taking the left strand cross it UNDER the middle strand (which is now the hair that you combined with a section of hair)

9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until you reach the section above your ear.

10. That this point you will continue will just braiding the rest of the hair to the side and secure it with a hairpin and/or a hair tie.

11. You can cover the hairpin with the leftover hair from the back of your head.

12. Gently tug on the braid to loosen it and create a fuller looking braid.
