Young kittens rely on mom andtheir litter mates in their nest tokeep them warm as they cannot

regular their own bodytemperature. But they may lose

some body heat when mom is notwith them, so unless they ALSO fitone of the other decriptions in thisFAQ sheet, leave them and check

again in 2-4 hrs to see if momcame back.

DOES THIS KITTENNEED MY HELP?

Mom is great at keeping herbabies clean. Kitten that

need your help may havefeces, urine or dirt on theirbodies. Their coats may be

wet and genital areas may bered and irritated from

possible urine scalding.

Well fed kittenstypically have a round,

full appearance totheir bellies. Visible

bones, sunken bellies,and pale skin may

indicate they aren'tbeing fed.

Hungry orphaned kittens willmeow and cry loudly. BUT,

loud kittens alone does NOTindicate they are orphaned.

Mom may be watching you inthe shadows or on her way

back. Leave the kittens for 2-4 hrs and check on them

again. If the kittens are quiet,mom came back to care for

them!

If you seedischarge/crusting of theeyes and nose this may

indicate the kittens are sick.Check them for wounds

and open sores that pointto injuries.
