SELF-REGULATORY ORGANIZATIONS NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULE CHANGE
The National Association of Securities Dealers filed a proposed rule change (SR-NASD-89-5) that would amend its Board of Governors' Interpretation on Prompt Receipt and Delivery of Securities to require, with certain exceptions, that NASD members make an affirmative determination, before effecting short sales for their own accounts, that the securities will be borrowed or delivered before settlement date. publicatlon of the proposal is expected to be made in the Federal Register during the week of May 1. APPROVAL OF PROPOSED INDEX PARTICIPATIONS DISCLOSURE DOCUMENT
The Commission approved a proposed index participations (IPs) disclosure document filed by The Options Clearing Corporation, The Philadelphia and American Stock Exchanges,and The Chicago Board Options Exchange (collectively, the SROs). The Commission also approved a request by the SROs to designate IPs as other OCC-issued securities for the disclosure purposes of Rule 9b-l of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and to treat IPs similar to standardized options for purposes of Rules 134a and 153b and Form S-20 under the Securities Act of 1933.
