STUDENT TO-DOs GSES ACCOMMODATION 1. INTERNATIONAL HOUSE (DORMITORY) APPLICATION Those who are newly arriving in Japan or those who lived in Japan for less than one year can apply for the International Houses, university accommodation. Please apply for a 'draw' according to the instructions and forms which will be emailed to new students about 3 months before enrolment. #The details of orientation meetings will be announced nearer the time. IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES International students are responsible for getting a student visa before enrolment. 1.Return the filled application for the "Eligibility Certificate" (Excel) to the GSES*. 2.Receive the issued Certificate by post . (Allow 6 to 8 weeks including mailing time) 3.Go and apply for a student visa at the Japan consulate. Eligibility Certificate and formal admission certificate must be attached. *MEXT students do NOT need an Eligibility Certificate for visa application. JOINT- GUARANTOR SYSTEM FOR KU INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS’ HOUSING If students are unable to find a guarantor to let a flat or room, the university can act as their Joint Guarantor. (Subject to landlord’s or estate agency’s policy) Students must follow the procedures of the ‘International Service Office’ and GSES office. Only in-person application will be accepted. ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE The university will apply for an ‘Eligibility Certificate’ as a proxy with the documents provided by the student. It typically takes 4-7 weeks for the immigration to process. The issued certificate will be sent to the student's updated address by registered mail. ADMISSION FEE PAYMENT By domestic or international bank transfer *MEXT scholars have the fee waived. DECISION-MAKING If you have received an offer letter, please carefully check: - Standard course duration - Research field and location of the assigned research group - Solid financial planning to study in Kyoto - Admission fee payment - Timing of your scholarship award/ scholarship start date if any - Deadline of IESC offer-acceptance PAYMENT NOTICE Please email when you have completed payment of the admission fee APPLICANT TO-DOs GSES DECISION LETTER Post & email to all applicants APPLICATION ACCEPTANCE & PRIMARY ELIGIBILITY CHECK We will confirm our receipt of the application documents by email. If you have not taken these tests in the last two years, please book a test as early as you can. INTERVIEW ARRANGEMENTS Selected applicants will be invited to an interview session, either in-person or via Skype. Please reply to the admissions team's email to arrange an interview. Applicants who will be interviewed via Skype should submit their Skype Name.
