I. CALL TO ORDER/INTRODUCTIONS Chair Martinez called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. Self-introduction of those in attendance took place.
II. COMMUNITY COMMENTS There was no community comment.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Morris moved to approve the minutes of April 16, 2012, seconded by Commissioner Ayala, the motion carried 6-0; Haderlein and Morgan-Hampton absent.
IV. COMMUNICATIONS
Letters or articles regarding library services or events. V. CHAIR REPORT
Chair Martinez announced that Latino Heritage is having their 14th Annual Parade and Jamaica on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Grand Marshal this year is David Hayes-Bautista. No Action Taken.
VI. ACTION ITEMS a. Nomination of Officers for FY13
Chair Martinez reported that this item should be tabled until the next meeting. The commission unanimously agreed.
b. Formation of Annual Report and Workplan Committee Chair Martinez and Commissioner Ayala volunteered as this year’s Annual Report and Workplan Committee. The commission unanimously approved.
VII. LIBRARY REPORT
a. Cloud Demonstration – Derek Massengale Derek Massengale gave a presentation regarding the new Cloud library e-book lending service that will allow users to browse and borrow digital books directly from their iPads, iPhones, Nooks and Android-based tablets. Under the program, 3M will outfit Pasadena and Glendale libraries with its own software, hardware and e-book collection, which patrons will be able to access via special apps, or 3M's new eReaders, which will be synced with available digital content. The company is also planning to install a Discovery Station at Central, allowing visitors to leaf through the collection from a touch-based interface. No Action Taken.
b. La Pintoresca Branch Update – Diane Walker Branch Manager Walker gave an update on branch programs which included the Summer Reading Club themed “Dream Big”, a literacy program titled “the Courage to Write”, and a very healing workshop called “Save our Sons,” a program to bring together people who to talk about losing sons to violence. The 18th Annual Family Fun Day and Resource Fair is at La

a. Staff Development Day Update Director Sanders gave a Staff Development Day update. No Action Taken.
b. Report on National Library Legislative Day
Director Sanders informed the commissioners that she attended National Library Legislative Day on April 24 and provided information regarding her visit. No Action Taken.
c. Library Director’s Visioning Summit
Director Sanders informed the commission that she would attend a Visioning Summit on June 4, 2012 to discuss the future of California libraries without State funding. No Action Taken.
IX. REPORT(S) FROM COMMITTEES/REPRESENTATIVES
a. Library Friends/Associates Deputy Director Beth Walker reported that she attended the Friends meeting at Hill Ave branch in May. The Friends discussed bookstore signage for greater visibility at Central Library. The Friends handed out the new brochures. At their next meeting, the Friends would like to receive the Library’s annual request for funds for FY13. No Action Taken.
