F. Samuel KELLOGG was born on 4 Sep 1781 in Austerlitz, Columbia Co., NY. He emigrated between 1800 and 1810 from Franklin, Delaware Co., NY.

He and his brother, Benjamin, went to Delaware Co., on foot. It is said that together they cleared over a thousand acres of heavily tembered land. His first house in N. Franklin was built of logs. In 1810 he purchased one hundred and ten acres of the farm where his son, marvin Sanford Kellogg resides about two miles below Croton. He was vigorous in mind and body, and could endure great hardships. He was musical and a fine singer. Mr. A. L. Kellogg describes him as being in his old age, a handsome man, whose face reflected his splendid Christian character.

In 1850 he was a Farmer in Franklin, Delaware Co., NY.

By Abraham Lincoln Kellogg: "Samuel with his brother, Benjamin, Jr., 25 and 22 years old, started on foot for Franklin, which at that time was in the backwoods of Amreica. The forest was filled with roaming wolves, ears, deer and other wild animals. They were sturdy, strong energetic young men and well adapted to take up the lifr of pioneers. They were devoted to each other and constant companions. Kile veterans, with courage undaunted, they began to lay down the forest with the axe, and for several years this they made their business. Together they chopped over 1000 acres of heavy timber. They arrived in the town in 1806. Samuel was married October 15, 1807 to Martha Topping, a daughter of Charles Topping of Long Island. A log house in North Franklin was their first home. He and his brother, Benjamin lived together. It was at this house that an important event happened, a daughter being born into each family about the same time, Jane and Phoebe. About the year 1808, Samuel moved to the Giles place, formerly know as the Potter farm, where he remained two years. In 1810 he purchased 110 acres of the farm later occupied by his son Marvin Sanford, about two miles from the then vissage of Croten, and built and occupied a log house near the highway."
