The conversation flowed around her, but Alex was silent. She
hated being there, and she didnt feel like talking to anyone. Lili
came up to her with her usual fake smile. Oh no, Alex thought
Looovely dress, Lili gushed. Alex smiled weakly. Down in the
dumps?!, Lili said. Tell me all about it! Alex shook her head. The
last person she was going to pour her heart out to was Lili McNeil.
But she couldnt help herself. Alex dissolved into tears.

The spectators flooded out of the stadium. Billy got caught up
in the current as the crowd surged towards the car park Dont get
lost! shouted his Dad. Take a chill pill, Dad! Billy said. He
bumped into a large man who was eating a burger. The man dropped
his cob on the floor. Sorry, said Billy, but the man blundered on
into the stream of spectators making their way to the car park.
Billy turned back to his Dad. But Billys dad Dad had gone Billys
Dad had vanished. Billys Dad had evaporated into thin air.

The shadow crept along the wall. I froze with terror. * Do you
want some chocolate? said Ryan. Leticia gave him an icy stare. Ryan
had frozen her out for so long that she didnt know what to say to
him, now that he was being nice. Suit yourself, said Ryan. The
atmosphere was frosty for the rest of the journey.They both stared
out of the car windows into the dark night.

A red mist settled over Ahmed eyes. He was so angry, he was
really steamed up about what their goalie did in the penalty area.
Ahmed couldnt remember what happened next and the rest of the
afternoon passed in a fog. And the evening. By the morning, what
Ahmed did to their goalie was just a hazy memory. * Usually, he
hated animals. But Arrans heart melted at the sight of the little
puppy.

white. Grubby as a clwt in need of bleach, theyre at the gate,
