science can do to prolong his life FIRE IN THE HOLDER BLOCK I Early this morning smoke was seen coming from the basement of the Hol ¬ der block where the furnace and ele- vator ¬ motor are located Mr G W Martin went over to the fire station and informed Mr Chambers without turning in an alarm The firemen took the chemical engine and the hook and ladder wagon and were on the scene immediately The electric light plant was notified and the cur ¬ rent was cut oft the fire being shortly extinguished- The rains of yesterday and last night overflowed the street or alley back of the building and water poured Into the cement lined basement until it stood several inches deep on the floor This formed a short circuit charged the water with electricity and set the motor on fire The sparks and flames rom this set the wood work on fire and quite a bit of damage was done m addition to the damage to the big I motor which has been considerably I injured and will put the elevatQr ser- vice ¬ out
