Village Show
Wood Street
Jazz Festival
Opening Act: - It’s the highlight of the Wood Street calendar; our Village
Green is transformed to host one of the best summer shows in the area. Full of events, stalls, music and refreshments, the fun starts at 1 o’clock with a
procession of local children to the Maypole, crowning of the Flower Queen and an official opening by the Mayor and Mayoress of Guildford.
Entertainment: - Don’t miss the
returning Pantastic Steel Drum Band along with Caribbean Dancers and the
Ukulele Band performing throughout the afternoon.
Main Event: - Download a Horticultural Show Schedule from
www.wsvhortsoc.co.uk . Categories range from vegetables, fruit & flowers to painting and art. Make a Chocolate Chiffon Cake or brew some
Elderflower Sparkling Wine. There’s something for everyone including under-fives and teenagers.
See the details for Registration on the Wednesday before the show and
Submission on the Saturday morning between 9am and 10:45am.
Fun Dog Show: - Sponsored by Alder Vets in Worplesdon Road, the
ever-popular show is held in the main arena starting at 2 o’clock. If you want your dog to take part and maybe win a rosette or trophy, register
during the hour before. All are welcome with nine classes ranging from the ‘smartest dog’ to the ‘one with the most waggy tail’.
Exhibitor / Stalls: - Favourites include Punch & Judy, Bouncy Castle,
Tombola, Raffles and even ‘Hooking a Duck’ among dozens of specialist
exhibitors and craft stalls:
• Quench your thirst on local beer, cider & gin
• Take tea and cream teas in the Tea Tent.
• See the new range of cars showcased by Mercedes Benz Guildford.
• See the rabbits & small animals brought by Rydes Hill School.
• Explore the Car Boot Sale – set up from 11:30 am.
Tombola Prizes: - WSVA need prize donations such as bottles
(alcohol or otherwise), tins, toiletries and all those unwanted presents. Please leave these at ‘Surrey Oak’, 34 Wood Street Green.
Volunteers: - Just turn up on the Village Green in the morning to help
set up, or volunteer in advance to help run the show in the afternoon. If so, please phone Terry on 03333 445585.

business which serves handmade pies with a choice of creamy mash, crushed minted petit pois and onion

All equipment is supplied, and the Village Association will buy you a drink afterwards to say thank you. We meet at 3pm outside St
Alban’s Church and collect litter for an hour. Children are very welcome and really enjoy it! For your diary, the next regular litter pick will be Saturday 5th October at 3pm.
