In December 2001, HMD was named as the World's Best Shipbuilder by Lloyd's List Maritime Asia, which recognized HMD's cuttingedge shipbuilding technology, highly skilled workforce and modern facilities.
Before entering into the newbuilding industry, HMD had already enjoyed strong reputation for its high-quality performances in a repair and conversion works on over 8,000 ships whereby HMD accumulated wide range of knowledge and experience in the field and shared our know-how with a joint venture shipyard, Hyundai-Vinashin Shipyard Co., Ltd. (HVS) in Vietnam.

Founded in 1975, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd. (HMD) entered into the newbuilding industry in 1996 and
has now become a global leading shipbuilder, specializing in medium-sized vessels of the highest quality.
Thus far, HMD has delivered more than 800 ships including Product / Chemical Tankers, LPG Carriers,
Container Carriers, Bulk Carriers, PCTCs, Container Ro-Ro Vessels, Ro-Ro Vessels, Asphalt Carriers,

Ship Design Technology
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Simulation to be performed to find out the best one among several concept designs in advance of carrying out model tests.
Echo Friendly and Efficient Ship Design
Efficiency-increasing device such as Vortex Fin that concurrently reduce hull pressure fluctuation, has been developed by HMD and applied to improve ship's speed performance and vibration phenomena.
MRI (Maritime Research Institute)
MRI was founded in 1984 to help Hyundai Heavy Industry Group achieve its goals in the marine field. The research fields of MRI include hydrodynamics, structural mechanics, and experiment for ships and offshore structures.
ITI (Industrial Technology Institute)
ITI was established in 1983 and plays vital role in developing production technologies such as welding, casting, forging, protective coating, and automatic manufacturing facilities.
EESRI (Electro Electric Systems Research Institute)
EESRI was established in 1982 and provides key technologies through cutting-edge research to create a better future for our clients.
ATI (Advanced Technology Institute)
ATI was founded in 2012 to upgrade the core technologies and systems commonly required for world-class products.
Concave-Type Aft Body to be designed to have enough clearance between hull surface and propeller tip to avoid severe vibration problem in case of fitting propeller of big diameter.
LnG LnG
As a clean energy, LNG is coming into practice with the efficient LNG Fueled Propulsion (LFP) system developed by HMD for Product/Chemical Tanker, Bulk Carrier and Container Ship.

HMD has devolved its repair and conversion business to HVS with its
invaluable and accumulated know-how gained from 30 years' repair and
conversion business. Since its operation in 1999, HVS has performed
repair and conversion for about 1,000 vessels including offshore units
(platform), upgrading & life extension works, elongation of PCTCs and
conversion of various types of ships.
Accumulating state - of - the - art technologies and skills through
conversions and general repairs, HVS has entered into Newbuilding
Industry in 2008 and successfully delivered more than 50 ships including
Product / Chemical Tankers, Bulk Carriers as of November, 2014.
In 2014, HVS has successfully delivered 1st Product / Chemical Tanker

around 1,900 ships aggregating some 170 mil. DWT to 288 shipowners in 49 countries. HHI prides
