The Oklahoma Camera Club conducted the judging of the OK International Exhibition

for the 50th year on May 22 and 23, a remarkable achievement. We received 3300 en-

tries to challenge the judges and members managing the judging. Jaci and I sincerely

appreciate the professional assistance of all who dedicated their time and knowledge to

successfully conduct this exhibition. Jaci and Doug Finch, Chairman

Invite a friend to attend a club meeting with you.

50th OK International Judging

Do you judge on what you like or what is art and conveys the emotion

intended. Get out of what you like.

Pictorial Image Division - Chairman, Inga Vautrin

Judges: Ward Conaway, (OCC), Larry Petterborg, (TX),

Carl Shortt (Metro Club Camera Club, OKC)

Nature Division - Chairman, Jennifer D’Agostino (right),

Judges: Tom Savage, APSA, MPSA, (TX), Jim David,

PPSA, (OCC - AZ), Jan Lee, APSA, EPSA, (OCC)

Photojournalism Division - Chairman, Carol McCreary,

APSA, EPSA and Tom McCreary, APSA, EPSA;

Judges: Frank Richards, (TX), Charles Taylor, APSA,

(OCC), Wes Odell (TX)

How do you judge 3300 images? Yes, that is right, one image at a time; evaluating each one in an effort to recognize the effort,

technical skill, and artistic talent of the maker. Each judge strived to go beyond their initial response to the image in an effort to

understand the story, what is the photographer striving to say, no different than what you expect when your work is being

viewed and judged. Beginning with a large file of images, they viewed all scoring each in an effort to narrow down the number,

making mental and pencil notes of those they would like to view again, always conscience of the criteria of the large number of

awards to be given. Then finally, the task of discussing their assessment of selected images with their two associates to further

narrow the possible images to be recognized. I am sure you understand the challenge each judge experienced as they viewed

each in an effort not to allow the time and pressure to bias their judgment.

Jaci and I sincerely appreciate the contribution and support of each judge, it made this exhibition a great success. Thank you!

Member Scores “15”

The mono of "Reflections of Reflections" was taken at a late afternoon - early

evening walk in downtown OKC. There was a good, partly cloudy sky and the

late light angles were really catching the glass of the tall buildings beauti-

fully. I was walking down some comparatively narrow spaces, hoping for a

"bounce back" of reflections between and among the buildings. I finally (and

luckily) found what I was looking for. It had a nice sky, great light, and I

really liked the composition possibilities. Part work and part serendipity. And

then I had a lot of fun working at emphasizing the lines and structures in Pho-

toshop. I shot it with monochrome in mind, and was happy that that aspect

worked out, as well.

The Red Earth Festival - Photo Op June 5 - 7

The Red Earth Festival at the Cox Convention Center is an exciting event fea-

turing representatives from over 100 tribes. Over the years, Red Earth has ma-

tured into one of the most respected visual and performing arts events of its

type, setting the standard for many of today's Indian art shows.

The dance competition at Red Earth is one of the rare occasions when dancers

from America's Northern and Southern tribes can be seen together in one

venue. Red Earth dancers represent the elite of Native American dance, some

of the most gifted and accomplished in the world. The master, each in their won

distinctive dress, exhibit their originality and skills, each in their own tribal

dress. Visiting Red Earth, Guests can sample the work of some of the nation’s

most celebrated artists.

New Club Member - Ron Lane

Julie Plant, [email protected] from Oklahoma City visited the club on May

26. Julie learned of the club from our friends at Bedford Camera. She ex-

pressed a high level of interest in photographic art.

Julie is beginning her club activities by attending Carol and Tom

McCreary’s workshop on June 5, I am sure she will have fun. Thanks for

stopping by Julie, we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Club Visitor - Julie Plant

Ron Lane, [email protected], learned of the club attending the Kelby Worldwide

Photo Walk, 2013. He attended this walk through the Automobile Alley part of the city.

After meeting a number of our members on this walk, he become acquainted with many; as

you know, we have many members who walk the streets and attend many public events for

pics.

Ron enjoys taking photos in a variety of genres. Landscaped, portraits, sports, macro,

street, nature and photojournalism, most anything that gets in from of my lens that catches

my eye. Probably the two that I have the most fun with are landscapes and sports.

Welcome Ron, we are looking forward to having you as a club member. Please do not

hesitate to let us know what we can do to make your membership more meaningful.
