• Hyper: (prefix)
• Origin: (ancient Greek)
• Means over, excessive or linked (non-sequentially)
• This prefix is being used in (medicine, economic, IT, etc.

• Origin : Latin
• Meaning: means, tool, bridge some thing between two things
• Media mean : communication, radio, paper, TV. etc.

• Normally, texts in books or in normal PowerPoint presentations are sequential i.e. (one after another.
• Hypertext are not sequential, readers can jump from a text or a page to another.

• Both can be mere texts or text in buttons.

Application of HYPERTEXT and HYPERMEDIA in CALL
• Both can be used :
• Explain linguistic items like vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation.
• They can be used to test students knowledge of linguistic items.
• They can design interesting activities like contexts and competitions.
