PRIVATE CLOUD IS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CLOUD SERVICES on resources dedi-cated to your organization, whether they exist on-premises or off-premises.

With a private cloud, you get many of the benefits of public cloud computing—includ-ing self-service, scalability, and elasticity—with the additional control and customization available from dedicated resources.

Two models for cloud services can be delivered in a private cloud: Infrastructure as a Ser-vice (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS). With IaaS, you can use infrastructure resources (compute, network, and storage) as a service, while PaaS provides a complete application platform as a service.

Microsoft® offers solutions that deliver IaaS and PaaS for both private and public cloud deployments. This datasheet focuses on Microsoft solutions for IaaS and provides an over-view of Microsoft Hyper-V™ Cloud, a set of programs and initiatives to help customers and partners accelerate deployment of IaaS.

IAAS IN A PRIVATE CLOUDYou can build a private cloud today with Windows Server® 2008 R2, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Microsoft System Center.

The foundation is built on the Windows Server platform with the Windows Server Ac-tive Directory® identity framework, Hyper-V virtualization capability, and System Center end-to-end service management capabilities.

The new System Center Virtual Machine Manager Self-Service Portal 2.0 simplifies the pooling, allocation, provisioning, and usage tracking of datacenter resources, so that your business units can consume Infrastructure as a Service.

By building a private cloud on Windows Server 2008 R2, Hyper-V, and System Center, you can take advantage of the comprehensive Microsoft approach to cloud computing and transform the way you deliver IT services to your business.

CASE STUDY: LIONBRIDGE

“Customers will see that we can now better support an environment that’s up and running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With System Center, we can scale…up and down faster and

get more projects into the cloud.”

HYPER-V CLOUD To accelerate IaaS deployment, Microsoft has designed a set of programs and initiatives to help deploy private and public clouds based on Windows Server Hyper-V, System Center, and related products. These programs are tailored to specific deployment types according to customer needs and preferences

HYPER-V CLOUD DEPLOYMENT GUIDESDeployment type: CustomWhen you want to build your own cloud infrastructure, Microsoft offers a set of guides for implementing IaaS. These guides are a collection of best practices for designing, deploy-ing, and operating private clouds, and they are based on Microsoft experience gained during hundreds of customer engagements in over 82 countries. Using the guides, you can work with a broad ecosystem of partners to design and deploy a customizable private cloud environment that can be built into your existing infrastructure.

HYPER-V CLOUD FAST TRACK

Deployment type: Prevalidated ConfigurationMicrosoft has partnered with market-leading server providers to deliver Microsoft Hyper-V Cloud Fast Track, a reference architecture for building private clouds. Fast Track combines Microsoft software; consolidated guidance; validated configurations from OEM partners for compute, network, and storage; and value-added software components.

HYPER-V CLOUD SERVICE PROVIDER PROGRAMDeployment type: Hosted When you want to run your IaaS deployment in a hosted environment, Microsoft offers the Hyper-V Cloud Service Provider Program. This program is designed to help hosters build cloud services platforms on Microsoft technologies. Through the program, you can work with hosting partners around the world to take advantage of IaaS and the additional scale and capacity that hosters can provide.

HYPER-V CLOUD ACCELERATE PROGRAMTo help you get started on cloud implementations, Microsoft is investing in a set of engagements for testing and deploying IaaS. The Hyper-V Cloud Ac-celerate Program is for customers who work with partners or Microsoft Services, and is designed to help fund cloud assessments, proof-of-concepts, and deployments. The program can help to reduce the risk, cost, and time associated with testing and deploying a cloud environment.

MICROSOFT PROVIDES A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH to cloud computing, helping you harness the full power of the cloud on your terms. Whether in your datacenter, with a service provider, or from Microsoft datacenters—and whether in a private cloud, public cloud, or Software as a Service environ-ment—Microsoft provides the flexibility and control you need to use cloud computing in the way that best meets your unique business needs.

Through automation and workflow systems, the resources dedicated to any one IT service can expand or contract according to demand or specific policies. The resource pool is shared across multiple business units with granular control over access and use. At the same time, resource usage is tracked and can be billed back to line-of-business owners.
