The President’s Message

How great it would be if all we wanted in life would come to us if we only had to wish for it. In the real world, it doesn’t happen. We must remain diligent in our faith and believe in

the Almighty that rewards those who work for what they need. In this terrible economic climate, we are still working on our plans for a new building for our Armenian Nursing and Rehabilita-tion Center (ANRC). What an exciting time of growth for us, and we need to have the facilities to accommodate that growth. The

need is great, and we will continue our quest. We must keep moving forward for those needing our care. Progress is being made each month. We are at the stage now where we are asking for bids for the architectural design of the building. We had mentioned in the past issue that the Planning Board of the Town of Emerson had given us a prelimi-nary approval. The next step is to have final plans to present to the State of New Jersey Health Department. We will shortly be announcing the start of a Capital Building Campaign to raise at least fifty percent of needed funds. There are currently several banks who are willing to lend us the balance of the required amount. Going forward – for our Lord, for our community, for you! We ask you for your support when the campaign begins and invite all our members to come to our Annual Meeting on May 21, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the ANRC where sand-wiches and refreshments will be served. We at the ANRC wish all a very Happy Easter.

Think LTC Insurance

Is Too Expensive?

The Price May Be Right!

T hankfully the warmth of the spring and summer is finally upon us. While I normally write about the state of affairs of our building,

our economy and the future of healthcare financing weigh more on my mind these days. There is no doubt that many of us are still shaking the cold response of the stock market this past winter. While our new President has enacted a stimulus plan to warm things up, many still wonder if he can tame the deficit. In a recent meeting President Obama was importantly heard saying “the only way I think we’re going to fix it (the deficit) is if we…bend the curve down on health care inflation.” Obama’s thoughts are not alone and many states have been acting on health care reform way before he entered office. Our economic climate this past winter has cooled our feeling of investing in the market, and many of us are left wondering what do to with what we’ve been investing. Here is an alternative for you: buy Long Term Care Insurance. While some of you may have already purchased a policy, many of you may have declined due to the high cost of the premium. For those whose timeframes may be 20 to 30 years away from possibly entering a long term care facility there

has never been a better time to buy a LTC insurance policy due to the incentives. In the coming weeks details of a national long term care financing reform plan may be in place. States have already started the ball rolling by initiating a “Long Term Care Partnership Program.” This program is designed to protect assets equal to the insurance benefits received from a Partnership Policy so that personal assets will not be taken into account when determining eligibility for Medicaid. If your policy pays $250,000 in LTC benefits, your savings will not be depleted by $250,000 and your loved ones will be able to hold onto the assets your hard work produced. Think of this as, “I put into the market and I’m losing it. If I invest in a LTC policy I’ll be able to protect the assets I have.” New Jersey is one of many states with sponsored policies in the LTC Partnership Program and many factors need to be addressed when purchasing a policy. Establishing a LTC insurance policy immediately reduces the financial and psychological burden that plagues most families when the need for long term care arrives. Asset preservation is a win-win situation

for the consumer in today’s economy. Don’t be surprised if legislators add tax incentives to future products and only your financial or insurance advisor can ask the right

questions to form a policy best suited to meet your needs. Having personally sold LTC policies prior to entering the healthcare arena, I can tell you that if a policy is structured properly, your premium will be lower than you thought and it is a terrific investment should you turn ill. With many states running large deficits, it is critical to take advantage of programs designed to protect our assets and in turn help our economy as well. The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 allows all states the option to enact partnership policies

situation for the consumer in

today’s economy.”

The WandererShakeh Bautista, DON

The Dementia Care Practice recommendations for the residents who wander are

the result of extensive research, lit-erature, reviews and consultations with nationally recognized care ex-perts. The practice recommendations

focus on multiple care areas; one of them is DEMEN-TIA and WANDERING. Wandering is a term used to describe a person who moves around aimlessly. Many people think that wandering should be stopped but in fact, it is often purposeful and has a significant meaning to that individual. Wandering can be beneficial when it provides stimulation, contact with others, physical

mobility and prevention of pressure sores. In actuality wandering is a response to physical and psychological needs such as boredom, isolation, hunger, pain, exces-sive or lack of stimulation and anxiety. However, wandering also can be detrimental when a resident attempts to elope, enter unsafe areas or unable to eat or drink due to excessive motion causing fatigue, weight loss, dehydration and death. With these factors in mind, it is necessary for the interdisciplinary team to work closely with the family members, to assess the needs of each wanderer. Based on his or her assessment, the team will develop a care plan with interventions and goals that promotes the physical and psychological well being of the resident in a safe and home like environment. q

and your state may or may not be involved in a program. Policies in these new programs must meet specific criteria, including federal tax qualification, consumer protections, and inflation protection requirements. New Jersey along with other states has established the program to provide incentives for individuals to insure against the costs of providing for their long term care needs. More importantly it provides a mechanism for individuals to qualify for coverage of the cost of meeting their long-term care needs under Medicaid without first being required to substantially exhaust their resources. I can tell you from experience that while working at the ANRC, not one LTC insurance carrier has denied a claim. That’s something to ponder when thinking about your next investment move. At the ANRC we accept all LTC insurance carriers and have begun aligning ourselves with networks to help consumers make informed decisions about their long term care needs. If you need assistance with finding a reputable agent who can steer you through the maze of options

Six carriers have been approved by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. They are:

Bankers Life and Casualty Company•Assurity Life Insurance Company•Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company•Transamerica Life Insurance Company•Minnesota Life Insurance Company•John Hancock Life Insurance Company•

and objectives, do not hesitate to call my office and we will help point you in the right direction. If this market has left a bitter taste in your mouth over the last few months you should certainly consider LTC insurance. We all have taken risks by investing in mutual funds, 401K’s, stocks and bonds. LTC insurance is a risk that may pay huge dividends for you and your family’s fiscal health when you can no longer afford to and its price may be right for these times. q
