Lubricating oilsContains: Mixture of hydrocarbons with 18 to 34 carbon atoms per molecule
Uses: engine oil, hydraulic fluid, other machinery – for lubrication and heat transfer
Heavy fuel oilsContains: long-chain hydrocarbons including alkanes, cycloalkanes and aromatics
Uses: industrial boilers, power stations, steam turbines
BitumenContains: what’s left after everything else is removed from crude oil – a wide range
of very large hydrocarbons and other compoundsUses: road construction, roof waterproofing
WaxesContains: by-products of the refining process
Uses: candles, electrical insulation, waterproof coverings, food containers
