Please contact us for more information on instructor certification training. You have probably heard lots of different information regarding the strength, or punch, or heat of pepper sprays. We believe that the only accurate way to measure the strength is to use APPROVED SCIENTIFIC METHODS. The measure of the strength of a pepper spray is the percentage of capsaicinoids present in the spray mix. The capsaicinoid level in any product can be measured in the laboratory using an instrument called a High Pressure Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC). Laboratory methods are established by both the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC), Method 995.03, and the American Spice Trade Association (ASTA), Method 21.3. Capsaicinoids found in red pepper extract consist of three very similar chemical compounds. These compounds can temporarily produce severe skin irritation, cause the eyes to slam shut, cause spasms in the lungs, produce uncontrolled sneezing and large amounts of sinus mucus. This combination of physiologically catastrophic events can temporarily incapacitate an individual and eliminate the need for the use of lethal force. Knowing or specifying the percentage of capsaicinoids contained in a pepper spray mix eliminates the guesswork when you are comparing or evaluating pepper spray effectiveness. For example, a pepper spray containing 0.2% capsaicinoids packs much less punch than one that contains .6%. The good pepper sprays will have the percent capsaicinoid content of the mix printed conspicuously on the label for easy comparison ... as all of ours DO! For more information about capsaicinoid measurement or Scoville Heat Unit measurements, call us for a copy of our technical note.

Laboratory methods are established by both the Association of Offi cial Analytical Chemists (AOAC), Method 995.03, and the American Spice Trade Association (ASTA), Method 21.3.

Capsaicinoids found in red pepper extract consist of three very similar chemical compounds. These compounds can

temporarily produce severe skin irritation, cause the eyes to slam shut, cause spasms in the lungs, produce uncontrolled sneezing and large amounts of sinus mucus.

What is OPTTM?

The X-10 is a safe and useful tool used during cell extractions. At times inmates may become belligerent and barricade themselves in a cell. Under these conditions, it becomes very dangerous for one or more offi cers to try entering the cell.

The X-10 allows offi cers to safely push back the barricades and introduce an oleoresin capsicum (OC), or pepper spray, fog into the cell. The pepper spray helps subdue the belligerent inmate, allowing the offi cers to enter the cell safely.

The pepper spray fog is an evaporated solution of powerful fl oating-in-air OC particles that will affect inmates regardless of their position in a cell. Holding your breath and/or covering your eyes will provide very little protection from this fog. The amount of OC fog released is controlled by the offi cer, who should be wearing gas masks. The fog, forced by a high pressure CO2 gas, passes to the end of the X-10 probe and is expelled forward through angled vent holes.

The X-10 is designed for operation by two or three offi cers. Call for the X-10 brochure for more information on using the X-10 device.

The X-10 weighs approximately 28.5 pounds, including a full pepper spray cylinder. The weight is balanced and has large handles provided for easy use by either two or three offi cers. The X-10 is manufactured from heavy gauge aluminum with a powder coat fi nish to give many years of satisfactory service.

The X-10SW hand-held sprayer, or spray wand, has a pressure washer gun-grip handle with replaceable nozzle spray tip. A selection of spare tips is available. The gun grip handle comes with a one-piece

high pressure hose and fi ttings to match the X-10C chemical cylinder. High pressure swivel fi ttings allow easy wand movement and either right- or left-hand operation.

All X-10C safety features are retained. There is only one releasable connector that attaches to the X-10C chemical cylinder. The X-10C chemical cylinder can be conveniently carried in a washable backpack carrier. The X-10C cylinder is easily removed from the carrier for refi lling.

Call for the X-10SW hand-held sprayer brochure for more operation information.

Soothe-Away Plus is a companion product to products using oleoresin capsicum (commonly known as OC or pepper spray). Soothe-Away Plus dissipates the burning sensation created when OC comes in contact

with skin. Installations using OC should have Soothe-Away Plus on hand for operators, maintenance personnel, and inmates or other subjects who handle or are marked by OC.

Pepper extracts and sprays are comprised of heat-producing compounds called capsaicinoids. These compounds coming in contact with skin will stimulate nerve endings and cause the sensations of heat and pain. Although the skin will not actually “burn,” the body will “feel” and the brain will “think” the affected area is burning.

Soothe-Away Plus extracts capsaicinoids from the fatty tissue, gradually relieving the burning sensation and soothing the affected area. Once Soothe-Away Plus removes the OC from the fatty tissues, the OC can be washed off with soap and water. Call for the Soothe-Away Plus brochure and technical note for more information.

The PepperJet is a high pressure OC (oleoresin capsicum), or pepper spray, weapon specifi cally designed for control of large groups or combatants in hard-to-reach locations.

PepperJet takes an earlier idea for a tear gas sprayer and adds the features requested by our customers. These include:

• Optimum Pressure TechnologyTM (OPTTM). The PepperJet uses 550 pounds per square inch pres-surized carbon dioxide gas to propel pepper spray chemicals up to 60 feet.

• Food Grade Chemicals. The PepperJet uses only FDA-approved ingredients.

• 15-degree Angle. A built-in 15-degree angle be-tween the bottle and nozzle ensures complete chemical delivery even when level shooting.

• Double Transportation Lock. PepperJet has two locks to prevent inadvertent fi ring. A lock pin with safety chain is inserted for transportation and storage. A thumb-operated safety latch is operated when fi ring.

• Aluminum Bottle. Lighter weight and rust free.

• Easy Filling. PepperJet uses a modern threaded fi t-ting with O-ring gasket. The PepperJet is so easy to fi ll that many customers fi ll the bottles right in the fi eld.

• Field Repairable. End wrenches and a screwdriver are all that are needed for most fi eld repairs.

• No More Hose Clamps. The PepperJet uses adjust-able brackets with quick-release pull pins.

• Easy Pressure Recertifi cation. PepperJet bottles are U.S. made and are easily cleansed and recertifi ed through the factory or at several U.S. locations.

The new X-10 Portable Filling Station complements the entire line of OPTTM less-than-lethal weapon systems. The unit, which stores materials for 12 refi lls and propellent for 50 or more refi lls, is about the same size as a hand truck with large 13-inch pneumatic tires. It is balanced to stand in place and can easily be moved up and down ramps and steps. Only 24 inches of vertical space are needed for storage.

Call us for a brochure or more information.

Optimum Pressure TechnologyTM is the result of years of research and working with customers. Original hand-held pepper spray devices used low pressure canisters, producing a single stream. Optimum Pressure TechnologyTM uses high pressure (550-650 psi) to produce a long-range wide-angle fog that can reach up to 45-60 feet; yet the device is easy to fi ll and operate.

The X-Stream is a two-bottle OC-pepper spray compressed air powered ejector weapon designed for use during large disturbances. The two bottles are a breathing air pressure bottle and a chemical storage bottle.

The backpack connects to a handheld spray nozzle via a very fl exible two-hose high pressure hose system.

Tlhe X-Stream uses Optimum Pressure TechnologyTM (OPTTM ) to generate micron-sized fog particles. This pepper spray fog is very effective for controlling combative behavior, stopping disturbances in seconds and reducing the possibility of injuries to offi cers or combatants.

The X-Stream contains more than 200 chemical shots before refi lling, yet weighs less than 25 pounds when fully fi lled and charged. Call for a brochure or more information.
