    Tools needed in addition to therequired tool list in the Hydril KellyGuard Actuator Manual (# 9602b):

  • 4FULLY ASSEMBLIED HYDRIL ACTUATOR

  • 5 WITH THE ACTUATOR IN THIS POSITIONREMOVE (4) TIE ROD NUTS.

  • 6 AFTER (4) TIE ROD NUTS ARE LOOSE REMOVEUPPER STATOR HOUSING

  • 7 SET UPPER ROTOR ASSY ON TABLE

    BE CAREFUL TO KEEP CLEAN

  • 8 ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY WITH UPPERROTOR REMOVED

  • 9 REMOVE CRANK RETAINER PLATE NUTS

    (4) RETAINER NUTS

  • 10 REMOVE (2) CRANK RETAINER PLATES

  • 11

    USE PLASTIC MALLET TO REMOVE(2) CRANK SHAFTS

  • 12 UNSCREW (2) LOCATING PINS

  • 13 REMOVE (2) LOCATING PINS COMPLETELY

  • 14

    USING A PLASTIC HAMMER AND PIECE OF WOOD,DRIVE PISTON DOWNWARD

    ALTERNATE HITTING PISTON AT 180 DEGREESINTERVALS

  • 15

    ALTERNATE HITTING 180 DEGREES UNTILPISTON IS IN THE DOWN POSITION

  • 16 LIFT OUTER CYLINDER UNTIL FREE

  • 17

    OUTER CYLINDER NOW FREE TO REMOVE

  • 18

    MAY NEED TODRIVE

    PISTON FROMOUTER

    CYLINDERUSING APLASTIC

    HAMMER ANDWOOD WITHTHE OUTERCYLINDER

    SUSPENDED

    COMPLETELY REMOVE OUTER CYLINDERAND SET ASIDE

    KEEP CLEAN

    LIFT INNER CYLINDER TILL FREE THENCOMPLETELY REMOVE

  • 21 REMOVE (4) TIE RODS

  • 22 (4) TIE RODS REMOVED

  • 23

    REMOVE CRANKS ARMS FROM BOTH SIDES

  • 24 REMOVE PISTON AND SET ASIDE

  • 25

    LIFT AND TURN OVER LOWER ROTOR ANDSTATOR ASSEMBLY

  • 26

    WITH THE LOWER ROTOR AND STATORASSEMBLY TURNED OVER, SET ON TABLE

  • 27

    REMOVE (8) HEX HEAD SCREWS FROM UPPERROTOR AND STATOR ASSEMBLY

  • 28

    USING A SMALL CHISEL AND PLASTIC HAMMER BENDBACK WASHER TABS TO ALLOW ACCESS TO REMOVE

    (8) HEX HEAD BOLTS FROM THE LOWER ROTORAND STATOR ASSEMBLY

  • 29

    REMOVE (8) HEX HEAD SCREWS FROM LOWERROTOR AND STATOR ASSEMBLY

  • 30

    WITH (2) SCREW DRIVERS 180 DEGREES APARTSEPARATE LOWER ROTOR AND STATOR

    ASSEMBLY

  • 31

    LIFT LOWER STATOR FROM LOWER ROTORAND SET ASIDE

  • 32

    REMOVE THE UPPER STATOR FROM UPPERROTOR AND SET ASIDE

  • 33

    USING A SCREW DRIVER CAREFULLY PRY OUTRETAINING RING FROM UPPER ROTOR

  • 34

    USING (2) SCREW DRIVERS CAREFULLY REMOVETHE RETAINING RING FROM THE UPPER ROTOR

  • 35

    RETAINING RING REMOVED FROM THEUPPER ROTOR

  • 36

    REMOVE RETAINING RING FROM LOWER ROTOR

  • 37

    USING A PLASTIC HAMMER AND A BRASS BAR,CAREFULLY DRIVE DOWN BEARING RETAINERRING AND BALL BEARING FROM UPPER ROTOR

  • 38

    USING A PLASTIC HAMMER AND A BRASS ROD,DRIVE DOWN BEARING RETAINER RING AND BALL

    BEARING FROM LOWER ROTOR

  • 39 REMOVE BALL BEARING FROM UPPER ROTOR

  • 40 REMOVE RING BEARING RETAINER FROM

    UPPER ROTOR

  • 41 REMOVE BALL BEARING FROM LOWER ROTOR

  • 42

    REMOVE BEARING RETAINER RING FROMLOWER ROTOR

  • 43 REMOVE (2) UPPER POLYPAK ROTATING INNER SEALSFROM BOTH THE UPPER AND LOWER STATORS

  • 44

    REMOVE (2) LOWER POLYPAK ROTATING INNER SEALSFROM BOTH THE UPPER AND LOWER STATORS

  • 45

    DISCARD (4) OLD/USED POLYPAK ROTATINGINNER SEALS

  • 46 CAREFULLY REMOVE (2) OUTER PISTON SEALS

    AND DISCARD

  • 47

    REMOVE AND DISCARD (2) INNERPISTON SEALS

  • 48

    ACTUATOR COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLIED ANDLAY OUT ON TABLE READY FOR REASSEMBLY

  • 49

    INSTALLATION OF POLYPAK ROTATING SEALS INUPPER AND LOWER STATORS

    INSTALL FRONT OF SEAL IN BOTTOM AREA OF UPPERAND LOWER STATORS AND WORK SEAL CLOSE TO YOUINTO THE UPPER GROOVE

    PULL SEAL INTO UPPER GROOVE AND WORK THE SEALINTO UPPER GROOVE AROUND THE ROTOR

    INSTALL POLYPAK ROTATING SEAL INTO LOWERGROOVE OF BOTH UPPER AND LOWER STATORS

    GREASE ROTATING SEAL AREA OF UPPER ANDLOWER ROTORS

  • 52

    PLACE UPPER BEARING RETAINER RINGINSIDE BOTTOM AREA OF UPPER ROTOR

  • 53 INSTALL BALL BEARING IN UPPER ROTOR

  • 54

    USING A PLASTIC MALLET, TAP BALLBEARING INTO PLACE

  • 55 USING HANDS, INSTALL RETAINING RING

    INTO GROOVE

  • 56 LOWER UPPER STATOR DOWN ONTO

    UPPER ROTOR

  • 57 INSTALL (8) HEX HEAD CAP SCREWS

    AND TIGHTEN

  • 58 TIGHTEN (8) HEX HEAD BOLTS

  • 59 PLACE LOWER BEARING RETAINER RING INTO

    BOTTOM OF LOWER ROTOR

  • 60

    PLACE AND INSTALL BALL BEARING INTO LOWERROTOR

    USING A PLASTIC MALLET, TAP BALL BEARINGINTO PLACE

    USING HANDS INSTALL RETAINING RING INTOLOWER ROTOR

  • 62 PLACE LOWER STATOR OVER LOWER ROTOR

    INSTALL (8) TAB WASHERS AND (8) HEX HEADSCREW AND TIGHTEN

  • 64

    USING A SMALL METAL CHISEL, BEND WASHERTABS INTO A LOCK POSITION AROUND

    HEX HEAD SCREWS

  • 65 INSTALL OUTER PISTON SEALS

  • 66 INSTALL INNER PISTON SEALS

  • 67 NOTE LOCATION OF LOCATING SLOT

    PLACE PISTON ONTO LOWER STATOR AND ROTORASSEMBLY

    NOTE: PISTON LINK MUST BE POINTING AWAY FROMLOCATING PIN AS SHOWN IN PICTURE

  • 69 INSTALL (4) TIE RODS AND TIGHTEN

  • 70 (4) TIE RODS INSTALLED

  • 71 INSTALL (4) CRANK ARMS

  • 72

    (4) CRANK ARMS INSTALLED

  • 73 GREASE OUTSIDE OF INNER CYLINDER PRIOR

    TO INSTALLATION

  • 74 LOWER INNER CYLINDER INTO LOWER ROTOR

  • 75 NOTE: INNER CYLINDER LOCATING PIN AT BOTTOM I.D.

    OF CYLINDER AND THE LOCATING GROOVE IN ROTOR

    USING A PLASTIC MALLET, TAP INNER CYLINDER INTOPOSITION

    WATCH TO MAKE CERTAIN LOCATING PIN ON BOTTOMOF INNER CYLINDER LINES UP WITH LOCATINGGROOVE IN ROTOR

  • 77 GREASE I.D. OF OUTER CYLINDER

    LOWER OUTER CYLINDER DOWN ONTO LOWER ROTOR

    NOTE: MAKE CERTAIN TO LINE UP THE LOCATINGNOTCH IN THE OUTER CYLINDER WITH THE LOCATINGPIN ON THE LOWER ROTOR, SEE PICTURE

    ONCE AGAIN: MAKE CERTAIN LOCATING NOTCHAND PIN ARE LINED UP CORRECTLY AS OUTER

    CYLINDER IS LOWERED INTO PLACE

    USING A PLASTIC MALLET TAP OUTERCYLINDER IN PLACE

  • 81 INSTALL (2) LOCATING PINS AND TIGHTEN

  • 82 INSTALL 2ND LOCATING PIN

  • 83

    PREPARE FOR ISTALLATION OF (2) CRANK SHAFTS

    NOTE LOCATION OF THE (2) KEYS IN THE SHAFTSPRIOR TO INSTALLATION

    PRIOR TO INSTALLING CRANK SHAFTS USE FINGERTO POSITION CRANK ARMS PRIOR TO THE

    INSTALLION OF THE CRANK SHAFT

    INSTALL (2) CRANK SHAFT

    NOTE: POSITION OF INDICATING NOTCH ON CRANKSHAFT MUST BE IN THE UP POSITION

  • 86 BOTH CRANK SHAFTS INSTALLED

    INSTALL (2) CRANK RETAINER, (4) CRANKLOCKWASHERS, (4) CRANK RETAINER

    LOCKNUTS AND TIGHTEN

    LOWER UPPER ROTOR ASSEMBLY DOWN ONTO (4) TIEROD BOLTS

    NOTE: PLACE (4) TIE ROD HEX NUTS LAYING LOOSE INTHE (4) MILLED SLOT AREAS IN ROTOR PRIOR TOLOWERING ROTOR INTO PLACE

    NOTE: MAKE CERTAIN TO LINE UP THELOCATING NOTCH AND LOCATING PIN

    BEFORE TAPPING INTO PLACE

    NOW CAREFULLY START THE (4) TIE ROD HEXNUTS AND TIGHTEN EVENLY

  • 91 A FULLY ASSEMBLIED UNIT

    PRIOR TO MOUNTING ONTO A KELLY GUARD

    PLACE (2) MOUNTING SLEEVE HALVES TOGETHERWITH THE RETAINING GROOVE UP

    INSTALL RETAINING RING

    PRIOR TO PLACING ACTUATOR OVER THE MOUNTINGSLEEVES AND KELLY GUARD USE (2) ALLEN WRENCHS

    TO ROTATE THE CRANKS IN THE POSITION SHOWN
