Whenever a fluid connector with an unknown type of connection needs to be replaced, it is relatively easy to identify the part by using the thread identification information shown on the next few pages.

Initial identification takes place by means of measuring the thread ID of a female part or the thread OD of a male part. Always measure at two points to identify a possible tapered thread. In case of a tapered thread (NPTF, BSPT) the average OD is measured in the middle section.

These measured values can then be looked up in the tables shown on the next few pages for respectively female and male threads.

In case this does not yield a clear identification, then it is possible to measure the pitch of the thread and compare this value with the information in the tables, either expressed in mm pitch or number of threads per inch.

Final identification and verification may take place by looking at the shape or form of the connection. Is the sealing surface a negative cone or a positive cone? Is it flat? Does it have an O-ring?

An overview of the most common thread forms is given on the next two pages.

1 Cut the tube rectangularly (do not use pipe-cutter).2 Deburr and clean tube inside and outside.3 Check pre-assembly adaptor for dimensions and damages.4 Clamp the pre-assembly adaptor in a vice.5 Oil pre-assembly adaptor (special grease to be used for SS components).6 Move nut and cutting ring over pipe.7 Position tube in pre-assembly adaptor and press down firmly.8 Tighten the nut with a wrench until the tube no longer can be turned in the adaptor.9 Put a mark on the nut and tube.10 Tighten the nut by half a turn.11 Loosen nut and check if a bulge shows in front of the cutting ring. Cutting ring may rotate on tube.12 Now make the final assembly by tightening nut half a turn from the point of a noticeable increase. in torque. RX® TeST PROGRAMHydraulic component failures can be extremely costly. If your system is down and leaking oil, you need to quickly identify which component has failed, fix the problem, test the system and get back to work.

The RX test program provides the perfect solution. Consisting of a range of test points, tee piece test couplings, pressure gauge adapters, microbore test hoses and pressure test kits, its offers a safe, flexible and economic solution for measuring pressure in hydraulic circuits without interrupting the system function. It is also possible to take fluid samples or vent off air.

The importance of pressure gauges are often overlooked in hydraulic applications. A well designed and properly sized gauge will provide increased accuracy and control of your process.

The range of RX pressure gauges are an ideal, versatile addition to your application and are suitable across a wide range of applications where visual checking or a manual pressure setting is required.

Glycerine filling makes the pressure gauge resistant to dynamic pressures and mechanical vibration. Combined use of stainless steel and brass for construction ensures RX pressure gauges are suitably protected when used within harsh environments and are resistant to a wide range of corrosive media.

High-pressure ball valves have a true on-off function; they should not be used in a partially

opened position. Three way ball valves come in different versions. The most commonly used

has a L-bore with one defined pressured inlet port (the centre one).

• The flow can be switched from one to the other outlet port by turning the handle over a 90

degrees angle.

• In the 45 degrees position the flow is blocked.

• Flow control valves are designed to restrict the flow going through the valve from a fully

opened position to a fully closed position.

• Be aware that highly restricted flow levels will cause considerable heat generation.

• These speed control valves have a built in check valve which makes the adjustable flow

restriction only work in one flow direction.

• In the reversed flow direction the check valve opens and offers virtually unrestricted flow.

• A check valve simply allows flow in one direction and completely blocks flow in the

reversed direction.

• The so-called cracking pressure is normally set at 0,5 bar. This is the pressure at which the

valve starts to open when pressured in the free flow direction.

RX pressure gauges can be mounted onto a pressure line, directly onto a hydraulic

component or in a panel. For panel mounting our range of RX test points and test hoses can

be used, please see pages 35 & 36.

It is also possible to combine the pressure gauge with a test hose, creating a portable

measuring system, using pre-installed test points. This way system malfunctions can be

traced and system performance can be measured.

It is recommended that a gauge should be selected that is about double your anticipated

pressure, and the maximum operating pressure should not exceed 80% of the full pressure

range of the gauge.
