INTRODUCTION

The EBC hybrid TEFL course is a blend of online training and a two week teaching

practice course given at our training centre in Madrid.

The online TEFL course component is identical to the online TEFL course EXCEPT

that the observed teaching practice mentioned in the online TEFL course is re-

placed with a two week teaching practice course in Madrid.

We do not want to repeat the same content, so please read the Online TEFL

course brochure for full details about the online TEFL course component.

Please also IGNORE the Pros and Cons section at the end of the Online TEFL

course brochure. The result of taking the EBC hybrid TEFL course is the same as

attending our four week full-time TEFL course.

THE EBC HYBRID TEFL COURSE

There are two components

1. Online, trainer supported learning—€500

2. A two week teaching practice course in Madrid—€750

The total cost is the same as our four week full-time course.

You must pass the online course before you take the teaching practice course.

You pay for each component separately so you do not need to pay for it all at

once.

The main benefit of the hybrid course over the online TEFL course is the teaching

practice course.

Quality schools consider teaching applicants with online certificates as inferior to

those who have a certificate that includes actual classroom teaching practice.

The hybrid course gives you the best of both worlds. A small saving on expenses

because you will only need to pay for two weeks stay in Madrid rather than four

weeks. In addition the hybrid TEFL course awards the exact same certificates as

the four week full-time TEFL course in Madrid.

HYBRID TEACHING PRACTICE COURSE

After passing the online course you will take the 80 hour teaching practice

course to learn the practical skills you will need to teach effectively.

The course is intensive and includes 16 hours of teaching practice, 4 hours ob-

serving experienced teachers and the completion of 6 written assignments.

Teaching practice is observed and critiqued. You will deliver lessons that you will

create to non-native English speakers. You will get feedback so that you know

how you are progressing and help you prepare for the moment when you go solo

in your teaching career.

You will be taught how to communicate effectively using different methods and

media. The EBC training style demands active and pro-active student participa-

tion. Your ability to work in a team is essential.

An essential part of our TEFL TESOL teaching method is the ability to explain and

teach in English supported by classroom aids, body language etc. For this reason

you are not allowed to use the local language when you are teaching.

Your final grade is based on 3 key areas:

1. Teaching practice performance;

2. Successfully completed written assignments and lesson plans;

3. Professional development.

* Micro-teaching is EBC terminology for dress rehearsing your lessons in front of

your classmates and trainer before you teach your actual teaching practice class.

Practice makes perfect so EBC makes sure that you get a lot of practice.

CLASSROOM TRAINING

You will be taught language analysis and usage, theory and practical application,

classroom management and lesson planning/evaluation through the following:

Seminars and lectures;

Trainer demonstrations;

Group role-playing exercises.

TEACHING PRACTICE

You will teach 8 x 1 hour classes to non-native English speakers. You will teach

your practice classes every Thursday and Friday afternoon.

Your teaching practice is composed of the following:

Eight, one hour teaching practice classes given to groups of non-native Eng-

lish speakers;

Supervised group teaching practice;

Peer group teaching;

Feedback.

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS

Part of your online course was to create 4 lesson plans. When you attend you

must bring these as they will be the basis for your first 4 lessons. The rest of the

written assignments must be completed before the end of the 2 week teaching

practice course.
