Hybrid rice is a recent concept in Bangladesh.

BRRI initiated in 1983 but formal research started in 1993

Govt. constituted a team to develop policy issues regarding popularizing hybrid in 1996.

National Steering Committee headed by Secretary, MoA; Five years master plan for development and expansion of hybrid rice.

Private sector initiative started during 1990s.
