Parents’ evening
As you were notified last week, there is a parents’ evening scheduled for thisSunday, 17th January 2010. Your son’s teachers will be available to discuss his
progress between 5:30 and 8:30.
The class teacher will be in the classroom, the other subject teachers and theArabic staff will be elsewhere in the school. Details on where to find themshould be available on the evening.
Can I please stress that owing to the amount of parents that we need to seeduring the evening that we will need to keep the meetings down a strict 5minutes per child so that we can see everyone concerned? I thank you for your cooperation with this and apologise in advance if you find yourself waiting in aqueue.
Midyear exams and revision
The midyear examination week will begin on Saturday the 30th January 2010.Information on the exact dates for specific subjects will follow shortly in aletter from the school. The examination week is testing the material that we’vecovered since the beginning of the academic year
This week will be a regular teaching week; however the week starting 23rd
January to 27th January will be a revision week with an early finish to the day.Details on this will follow from the school. There will be no homework duringthe revision week other than to ask you revise the material covered in theforthcoming exams.
Revision guide
We have produced a revision guide for the upcoming examination week whichdetails the material that will be covered in the exams and should be revised at
home. Copies of these are currently being printed and should be with you

shortly. A copy has also been uploaded onto the class website in the midyear exam section.
This week, class tests and spelling
We will have one last spelling test prior to the exams. This is on the topic of the long ‘a’ sound and it is an important lesson to grasp so we will haveincluded the spelling test for it at the beginning of the revision week.
We haven’t as yet practiced grammar assessment and so we will have the endof unit 1 test for grammar this Wednesday, insha’ Allah. This will cover similar material to the midyear exam and so it will also help us prepare for that.Please help your son revise the following six topics for a test on Wednesday

Islamic Studies (in English) Unit 3 Test – Tuesday 19th January 2010
Those students who take Islamic studies (in English) with their class teacher will be having a test on the topics and concepts covered in worksheets 3.1 to3.6. These should be in your son’s Islamic Studies file. Additional copies areavailable on the class website in the Islamic Studies section. Please help your son to revise these topics. Please note that he does not have to memorize theadhan or the du’as for exiting and entering the masjid .
