The 4th Grade Literacy
Group

My Advocacy statement:
I feel reading is so important;
so, let’s keep all 4th grade
students at MLS reading over
vacations.
My Plan:
Contact school and get
permission.
Contact book stores and all local
businesses.
Create and print many advocacy
letters to distribute in town.
Make posters and fliers
advocating what I wanted.
Set a date and time and place for
raffle.
Use all proceeds towards new
books.
I visited all businesses in town
seeking donations.
I feel it is so important to keep children
reading over vacations.
They keep their skills up.
They enter a whole new world
when they read.
It may even boost their
confidence.
Businesses I contacted:
Mings-McDonalds-True Value-Tanning
Salon-Dunkin Donuts-McLeods-Hair
Salon-Rite-Aid-Family Dollar-Subway-
Hannerford-Bucksport House of Pizza-
The Alamo-Gold Star Cleaners-Florist
Shop- and a few more.
I patiently waited:
I received two calls on the first nite. I
was very excited-I was on my way to
making a difference.
Those were the only two calls I
received.
I was pretty bummed.
Here are the Gift Cards I
received.
But that didn’t stop
me- I worked even
harder.
I even called the
bookstores again.
They never returned my call.
Even though my project failed I did
learn one thing about myself; that is,
I can advocate for a very worthy
cause and feel great about it. I’m
painfully shy; but, I grew a lot from
doing this project.
