Volunteer Management

• Important to mitigate risks

“Green+Leaders is one of the most positive initiatives I have seen come out of PHSA in ten years… It really gives major credibility to PHSA’s commitment to the whole sustainability issue…”

Role of Green+Leaders• Inspiring staff• Increasing staff

satisfaction and health• Saving money and

resources• Meeting staff

engagement objectives

Energy Success StoryGreen+Leader Nadia

• Equipment decommissioned – Paraffin dispenser (was running

24/7 previously) – Lab Oven #1 (was running 24/7 at

60C) – Lab Oven #2 (was running 24/7 at

42C – now at 4hrs per day at 60C and once per week for 2hrs at 42C )

– IHC instruments x3 • Compressors previously run

all night; now runs for approximately 9hrs less each night (a decrease of 27 compressor hours per day!)

– Repositioned light switch

Benefits for Green+Leaders

• Nurture new skills and demonstrate leadership

• Act on sustainability values

• Network and have fun

“Green+Leaders was something that I always looked forward to, and I’m so thankful that I have had the opportunity to be involved. It was the only area in my work life last year where I actually felt supported and where I truly had the opportunity to grow…”

How it Works

• Launch behavioural change campaigns

• Have tools to support campaigns

Monitor Off!

• Conducted an energy audit

• Found 96% of monitors left on

• After campaign, only 8% left on

Commitment

• Two to four hours per month during work time

• Includes events• New volunteers

undergo training

“I had the pleasure of being inducted into the Green+Leaders Program… what a lovely, eye opening experience… It made me want to jump for joy meeting all these people, hearing their great ideas and seeing their projects in action.”

Thank You!
