Readington Township School District
Located on the eastern border of Hunterdon County, Readington Township School District is comprised of four schools with just over 1,600 preschool through grade 8 students. Dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, district curricula are guided by the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and address students’ diverse learning needs
through differentiation of instruction in a safe and innovative environment. Visual and performing arts and after-school opportunities provide students with a well-balanced program. The district supports extensive staff development through out-of-district workshops and in-house Teacher Academy offerings. The district’s home
school association funds cultural arts programs and teacher mini-grants for innovative projects. District schools are proud to have received state and national recognition for their environmental
and character education programs.
OVERVIEW OF EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS IN HUNTERDON COUNTY
The Hunterdon County Office of the New Jersey State Department of Education functions as a state-county coordinating agency charged with responsible educational leadership in the county. The county (437 square miles - 26 municipalities - 128,349 population per 2010 census) has 27 school districts (3 regional high school districts, 1 K-12 regional school district, 1 vocational school, 1 alternative school, 1 regional elementary district, and 20 elementary districts) with approximately 19,445 pupils. The 27 school districts include 50 school buildings and employ approximately 3,400 full instructional, supervisory and adminis-trative positions. Local school budgets prepared for the 2017-2018 school year total $456,049,853. All school districts continuously engage in curriculum improve-ment and professional learning for staff. With offerings in alternative and special needs education, adult education, new courses and methodologies in the general curriculum, facility planning, and vocational-technical education, the programs and practices are regularly reviewed and revised to align with 21st century learning goals and improved student outcomes.
