• Research has shown that new hunters needmultiple contacts with an experienced hunterbefore they are confident enough to continuehunting on their own.
• Many state agencies receive a lot of interestfrom potential new hunters but do not have thementors to facilitate them.
• Many people are spending more time online to
try to learn how to hunt before they ever step
outside. They are not taking traditional hunting
or shooting skills workshops but they still need
individual mentorship.
This is our call to action for hunters. We need your help!
Why Do We Need a National Mentor Training Program?
“In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by sportsmen.” - Theodore Roosevelt
•The North American Model of WildlifeConservation strives to sustain wildlife speciesand habitats through sound science and activemanagement. The two main points of the modelare:
– Fish and wildlife belong to all Americans.– It is our responsibility to maintain healthy
wildlife populations
•Since the 1980s, participants in hunting and theshooting sports have been declining, resulting inless funding for conservation. In 1970, more than40 million Americans purchased huntinglicenses. Today, that number has plummeted to11.5 million. With hunters footing such asubstantial portion of the bill, it is easy to seehow quickly funding for wildlife conservation willdrop as number of hunters continue to decrease.
