HUNGER IN DISTRICT 12!!!!• District 12 like many of the other districts is very poor. Its main priority is coal mining…All

the peoples hard work goes to the Capitol they get nothing out of there work, and get only a little money, not enough to be able to survive long.

• Ex; pg:4 Chapter 1. “ Our part of District 12, nicknamed The Seam, is usually crawling with coal miners heading out to there morning shift at this hour. Men and women with hunched shoulders, swollen knuckles, many who have long since stopped trying to scrub the coal dust from their broken nails, the lines of the sunken face.”

• A book that I read that reminds me of hunger is “The World We Live In,” by Susan Pheffer. This book is an end of the world book that is based in the lives of different people and how they try to survive without government and imports from other countries. A lot of people die because they didn’t know how to collect food on there own. (Text to text)

CAPITOL HELP???• The capitol like in modern day government can control how much of something each

state/district gets. The Capitol gets all of the Districts supplies. There crops, coal, etc. This allows no one to starve, unlike in the Districts were people die everyday from starvation.

• An Example; Ch1, Pg: 14… “I’ve listened to him rant about how the tesserae are just another tool to cause misery in our district. A way to plant hatred between the starving workers of the Seam and those who can generally count on supper and thereby ensure we will never trust one another. It’s to the capitols advantages to have us divided among ourselves.”

• This reminds me greatly to North Korea. In this country the people do not have word on what they eat, or even do. They are not aloud to have electronic devices, or to speak there own mind. Also if they try to escape the country they can be punished by the government. (Text to world)

SURVIVAL TO THE FITTEST…• There are many secrets in the Districts. Like the Hob in District 12, this is a “black

market.” You can take anything here and get any product you need. Food, thread, toys, etc…

• For ex; Ch1, Pg: 10..”On the way home, we swing by the Hob, the black market that operates in an abandoned warehouse that once held coal. Most businesses are closed by this time on the reaping day, but the black market’s still fairly busy.

• I can relate to having to go days without food. I have also seen people so weak that they could barley walk. (Text to self)
