The Human Development Report Awards Initiative publicly recognizes the contributions of regional, national and sub-national (local) Human Development Reports (HDRs) in stimulating development dialogue and policy formulation in countries and regions.

The Human Development Report Office (HDRO) is interested in the stories behind the reports, their impact and the communities engaged in the process of producing them.

Eligibility criteria:

Reports released between June 1 2012 and July 1 2016 are eligible to enter

Reports must bear the UNDP logo

Applicants should complete the application form in English (in word document not pdf format)

Entries must be typed not handwritten

All entries must be a maximum length of 1500 words

Applications should be sent by the UNDP Country Office or Regional Bureau and agreed by relevant Resident Representative or Bureau Director

All entries must be received by 1September 2016, midnight EST

Please note that it is important to complete the application fully as it is required for the screening process. An incomplete application will not be considered.

Instructions for main nomination statement (1500 words max)Please provide a comprehensive explanation of why the nominated HDR should be considered for an award, by demonstrating how the human development report process made a positive contribution to your country and to human development. Please focus on community engagement during the report preparation and your outreach activities before and after the launch. We ask you to back up your nomination with concrete examples. \

Serious contenders for the award will have made a significant impact on furthering human development in at least one of the following two areas:

• Participation and inclusiveness; did your team engage diverse communities, institutions or organizations in consultations or preparatory work for the report? How did the report process seek engagement with third parties where it is not the norm? Did you reach out to people affected by your focus area and collect data reflecting people’s opinions and aspirations? What was the impact of these actions on national or regional capacity development?

• Impact of report, and its outreach, in shaping policy debate and discussion; was your report an innovative reflection on human development in the local context? Did it generate new ideas and analysis or raise awareness of a human development theme? Was your report widely discussed by stakeholders, the media or elsewhere? Were any of your strategies, policies or suggestions adopted?
