The confluence of Wainganga-Nalganga River will brighten the fortunes of Vidarbha

Amravati, Akola and Buldhana districts. Two rivers in two distant corners of Vidarbha region are to be connected as part of the national river linking project. Then the Union water resources minister Uma Bharti and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis made an announcement on the initial project. While a preliminary proposal was also prepared, the National Water Development Agency was working on a detailed feasibility report.

The Irrigation department jumped in to it stating that the proposal is to draw the waters from the Gosikhurd dam and through lift irrigation pumps it into a 300-km canal that is to connect the two rivers. The project is roughly estimated to cost around Rs15, 000 crore and has potential to irrigate around 2.5 lakh hectares in the arid western Vidarbha’s Amravati division which is the epicentre of unending farmers’ suicide happenings. In the last 15 years, hundreds of farmers have committed suicide because of losses in cotton and soya bean cultivation. Of the six districts where farmer’s suicides were rampant, five are in rain-dependent Amravati division.

Being a national project, the Centre should provide funds for the river linking. This under-construction project is expected to provide irrigation facilities to 1.41 lakh hectares in Yavatmal district and about 58,000 hectares in Chandrapur district. Then CM Fadnavis pointed out that Maharashtra had only 18% irrigation coverage, much below the national average, and a number of irrigation projects in the state were lying incomplete. Expediting these pending projects was the need of the hour to give much needed boost to agricultural growth in the state which was stagnant at sub 4% while states like Madhya Pradesh had achieved double digit growth.

Maharashtra and Gujarat had agreed for linking of Damanganga-Pinjal as well as Paar-Tapi-Narmada rivers. The Centre was supposed to provide 75% of funds for these large ventures. The Damanganga-Pinjal linking is estimated to cost Rs2, 746 crore. It originates about 12km from Mundara village of Seoni district in the southern slopes of Satpura Range. After joining the Wardha River, the united stream, known as the Pranahita, ultimately falls into the Godavari River in

Telangana. The project has great potential to irrigate around 2.5 lakh

hectares in the arid western Vidarbha’s Amravati division. These plans should be realized by diverting the remaining water from Gosikhurd from Wainganga to Nalganga. This project was demanded by Praveen Mahajan on 3 November 2014 from the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Taking cognizance of Praveen Mahajan's statement, instructions were given to the Water Resources Department on behalf of then Chief Minister's Office. But as the rule and government changes, projects like this get compromised.

Praveen Mahajan is still chasing the project because hundreds of villages will get drinking water, besides, businesses will come there and provide employment to around 6-7 lakh people. The cost of the scheme is Rs 53,752 crore and the financial return is 9.50, which is enough to make the project a reality. The benefit area of this scheme is 3,71,277 hectares in Nagpur district, 92,326 hectares, 56,646 hectares in Wardha district, 83,571 hectares in Amravati district, 15,895 hectares in Yavatmal district, 84,625 hectares in Akola district, 38,214 hectares in Buldana district and indirectly 2-3 Lakh hectares will increase. The revision of this project was going on for the last five years, availability of water was the most important issue in this river project, after which all the hurdles have been removed and the DPR of the project is prepared by the National Water Development Agency.

This project has been included in the recently issued government order ('War-room') by the Water Resources Department, the project should be given immediate administrative approval, which will start in the preparation of the budget, and this work will start directly from next year. Water practitioner Praveen Mahajan demanded. He also requested in his letter to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra to clean the dams and lakes around before the rainy season. The Government should use its machinery to clean the dams, rivers, and lakes. The seaweed or scum coming out must be given free to the farmers to be used in their fields. It will be a good fertilizer for them. Hope the present Government acts swiftly on the demand and let the water flow freely in the region.

locals refused and pressed for the demand of locals to name the Navi Mumbai airport after local leader Lt. DB Patil.

City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) in its meeting held on 17th April, had passed the resolution to name the Navi Mumbai airport after Balasaheb Thackeray, hence it will be sent to the state cabinet for its approval, and once approved by the cabinet, it will be sent further to Central govt. But locals have opposed this resolution passed by CIDCO and hence a meeting was called by the CM to find a solution for the same.

Thakur further said, "The locals were not consulted by CIDCO or the state government before passing the resolution of naming the airport after late Balasaheb Thackeray, then how do you expect us to accept this decision?"

"CIDCO has a history that all their earlier projects are never named after a person but based on flowers or plants, this is the first occasion when CIDCO has passed such resolution to name after a person."

Dinkar Balu Patil was a Member of Parliament. He was a senior member of the Peasants and Workers Party of India. Patil focused on aiding the farmers of Uran taluka in Raigad district, Maharashtra. He was sentenced to one year's imprisonment in 1958 for participation in the satyagraha on the issue of border disputes between the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. He also took part in the movement for the formation of the Samyukta Maharashtra. He became a member of the Central Secretariat of Peasants and Workers Party in 1957 and was appointed its general secretary in January 1983.

AFTERNOON VOICE, MUMBAI 03Voices

he Chief Minister of Odisha TNaveen Patnaik's announcement of a financial package for poor

street vendors whose lives have been shattered by the pandemic and the lockdown is highly laudable and the move is indeed an exemplary one for other states to follow.

The pandemic and the lockdowns imposed to avoid it's spread has no doubt affected the lives of everybody and in the case of those who earn a living on the streets and in the markets by selling things matters spiralled from bad to worse as the public remained indoors and the roads and markets were closed. The street vendors are one such lot who have been adversely affected by the frequent shutdowns and lockdowns imposed to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

The Chief Minister's financial assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and many a street vendor will be benefited from the special package.

NAA is one of many such public-utility forums which are not known to common people. Central Government should publicise this and other such forums and helpline-websites so that more and more people may be able to take advantage of such ideal and unique features of governance-system. Rather it can be made mandatory to print details of such consumer-friendly authorities on back of invoices.

But presently NAA entertains only individual complaints. NAA wrote back that it does not handle public-interest suggestions which may auto-check anti-consumer practices resulting in removing malpractice of excessive profiteering at root-level. NAA should consider such public-interest suggestions which may provide big relief to all consumers rather than NAA providing on individual complaints only. Such suggestions included to fix maximum trade-margin between ex-factory price and printed Maximum-Retail-

Price of commodities where at times trade-margin is at times three times over the ex-factory price like in case of generic medicines. Another suggestion was to ban packaging in gimmick units requiring all commodities to be packed only in packs of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 units, gms or mltrs or kgs.

Police brutality in IndiaThe police authorities are

considered as one of the most significant sections of the society. These officials play an important role in keeping the country safe whenever there is any crisis or danger. However, sometimes, they take the law into their own hands and severely beat people. During the first lockdown that was imposed to contain the spread of Covid-19, many officers didn’t allow people to come outside to buy essential commodities like vegetables, milk and bread.

Recently, the police beat a person to death for flouting SOPs. Such personnel should be removed from their jobs.

Right noises but where are the vaccines

PM Modi is making all the right noises as far as the vaccine is concerned but the million dollar

question remains about the availability of over 200 crores doses India needs to vaccinate its adult population. Serum Institute & Bharat Biotech can meet most of the requirements but we will still fall short of the target this year. Also these companies are not here for charity & they need to be induced with an better pricing to increase production at the earliest which should be comparable to global vaccine players.

Buying vaccines even at double the price from global players for our shortfall requirement is peanut cost compared to lockdown price we pay for our economic downfall due to lockdown restrictions. PM Modi deserves applause for giving free jabs to all States thus ending the suspencce & apprehensions of state govts in footing the bill. State govts in anyways are funded by Centre & it makes little difference as to who foots the bill!

'Ambitious Swapna Patker is in ambush' (editoritis)

Essays a story of a very ambitious woman who perfects the art of getting introduced to big people and get pally with them for own pursuits. There are many people like this are in society but the difference is if at all Dr. Swapna has practiced psychological treatments without a

proper degree then it is a big mistake she has done to her patients. As it is the word 'psychology' and its treatment are a taboo in our society even in 21st century and if the practicing psychologist is under scanner for her worth then it is a backlash to whole psychological treatments and practicing psychologist also. Quakes and dubious doctors are found in lower class of the society but if so, called corporate world and higher class entertains Swapna without checking her credentials it is a big blow to whole psychological therapies and therapists.

The Chief Minister's financial assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and many a street vendor will be benefited from the special package.”

During the covid curbs, thousands of small traders as well as street vendors, who used to eke out a living by selling various products, were among the most affected to the COVID-19 induced lockdown.

The other states as well as the centre too must take immediate measures and mitigate the problems faced by the hawkers and vendors. As most of these people do not have any other source to rely upon other than earning something by selling the government with the local administration bodies should definitely take urgent steps to lessen their woes.

CP chief Sharad Pawar Non Thursday said the Maha Vikas Aghadi

The remarks came against the backdrop of the one-on-one meeting between Maharashtra C h i e f M i n i s t e r U d d h a v Thackeray and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Tuesday and Pawar's meeting with BJP leader and former CM Devendra Fadnavis last week.

Speaking on the 22nd foundation day of the NCP, Pawar also said the MVA (comprising the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress) will do well in the next Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, indicating the three parties may contest the 2024 polls together.

He said doubts are being raised as to how long the state government will last. ''But, the Shiv Sena is a party which can be trusted. The government will last its full term and also perform well in the next Lok Sabha and Assembly polls,'' the NCP chief said.

''The Shiv Sena is a party you can trust. (Sena founder) Balasaheb Thackeray honored his commitment to Indira Gandhi,'' he said. The Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress came together to form government in Maharashtra following the Assembly polls in 2019 after the Uddhav Thackeray-led party had a fallout with the BJP over the issue of sharing the chief ministerial post.

' ' W e h a v e f o r m e d a government comprising parties of different ideologies. We never thought we will one-day form government with the Shiv Sena because we had never worked together. But, the experience is good as all the three parties are working well together during the COVID-19 pandemic,'' Pawar said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray condoled the loss of lives in the incident and visited the Shatabdi Hospital in the city on Thursday to inquire about the well-being

of the survivors, a statement issued by the chief minister's office (CMO) said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief at the loss of lives and announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia each for the next of kin of the deceased from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

In a condolence message

from the prime minister, his office tweeted, ''Pained by the loss of lives due to the collapse of a structure in Malad West, Mumbai. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. Vardhan made the remarks while addressing the first meeting of the World Health Organ iza t ion H igh-Leve l Coalition on Health and Energy P l a t f o r m o f A c t i o n o n Wednesday night through video conference, a Health Ministry statement said.

The meeting was attended by several dignitaries and national heads, and representatives of various stakeholders like World

"The pandemic, as well as the enormous efforts to manage it, have reiterated the massive interdependence amongst various sectors. It has also underlined the need to ensure that inter-connectedness across

"An expert body called the National Action Plan on Climate Change and Human Health was constituted by our government with the multiple objectives of creating awareness amongst the genera l populat ion, healthcare providers and policymakers regarding the impact of climate change on human health,” Vardhan said.

three-member AICC Apanel constituted to end factionalism in

Punjab has submitted its report to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. The panel said that majority of the MLAs are with CM Amarinder Singh and there is no need for a change of guard in the state.

The committee said that there is no groupism in the party and s u g g e s t e d t h a t m o r e representation should be given t o D a l i t l e a d e r s . I t recommended that a Dalit leader should be made the deputy CM. It also noted that few MLAs are "unhappy" but not against Amarinder Singh.

The panel also recommended appointing a new Pradesh Congress Committee.

The panel was constituted by Sonia Gandhi last month in the wake of the increasing rift between the Navjot Singh Sidhu and the Amarinder Singh factions. The panel chaired by Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and comprising AICC general

secretary in-charge of Punjab affairs Harish Rawat and former MP JP Aggarwal has suggested accommodating all sections, castes and regions in the revamped party unit.

It also said that Navjot Singh Sidhu should be "suitably accommodated" in the revamp. The panel had earlier met Congress MLAs, Sidhu and Amerinder.

Sidhu has been at loggerheads with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and has publicly attacked him over an SIT report on the sacrilege issue in the state. Sidhu had quit the Amarinder Singh cabinet in July 2019 after being divested of the local bodies portfolio and has been in political wilderness since.

Puri Rath Yatra to be held without devotees for second year in row

month ahead of the Aannual Rath Yatra, on July 12, the Odisha

government on Thursday announced that this year, too, devotees will be barred from participating in the festival, which will only be held in Puri amid strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) P K Jena said that all guidelines of the Supreme Court, issued last year, will have to be followed in letter and spirit while observing the rituals on the occasion.

"Th i s yea r a l so , Lo rd

"Curfew will be clamped on the holy town on the day of Rath Yatra. All restrictions imposed during last year's event will remain in force," Jena explained.

Noting that devotees will be

able to witness the programmes live on television and webcasts, the official further said that the nine-day long car festival will commence as per schedule, and "just about 500 servitors will be allowed to pull the chariots during the period".

Joe Biden opens overseas tripdeclaring ‘United States is back’

Singapore relaxes few COVID restrictions from Jun 14 as number of new cases see dip res ident Joe B iden Popened the first overseas

trip of his term on Wednesday (local time) with a declaration that “the United States is back” as he seeks to reassert the nation on the world stage and steady European allies deeply shaken by his predecessor.

Biden has set the stakes for his eight-day trip in sweeping terms, believing the West must publicly demonstrate it can compete economically with China as the world emerges from the coronavirus pandemic. It is an open repudiation of his predecessor, Donald Trump, who scorned alliances and withdrew from a global climate change agreement that Biden has since rejoined.

The president’s first stop was a visit with U.S. troops and their families at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, where he laid out his mission for the trip.

“We’re going to make it clear that the United States is back and democracies are standing together to tackle the toughest challenges and issues that matter the most to our future,”

he said. “That we’re committed to leading with strength, defending our values, and delivering for our people.”

The challenges awaiting Biden overseas were clear as the president and the audience wore masks — a reminder of the pandemic that is still raging around much of the world even as its threat recedes within the United States.

“We have to end COVID-19 not just at home -- which we’re doing -- but everywhere,” Biden said.

Shortly before the president spoke, people briefed on the m a t t e r s a i d t h e B i d e n administration had brokered an agreement with Pfizer to purchase 500 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to be donated to 92 lower-income countries and the African Union over the next year.

Pak-Afghan transit trade agreement extended for another six monthsakistan and Afghanistan Phave approved another e x t e n s i o n o n t h e

application of the Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA) after they failed to agree over the revised draft of the transit deal, leading to a delay in the signing of the pact.

Earlier, both sides had extended the application of APTTA 2010 by three months following its expiry on February 11, 2021. The Express Tribune newspaper reported that Islamabad has now approved another extension of six months in the agreement.

Last month, the country's commerce ministry pointed out that the APTTA 2010 was a 10-year agreement, which was due

to expire on February 11 this year, but it was extended by three months by both countries following approval of their r e s p e c t i v e c a b i n e t s . December, both nations agreed that the text of APTTA 2010 would be revised and updated.

"Afghanistan shared a revised draft of the agreement by incorporating its suggestions in the first week of April 2021 in response to the draft shared by Pakistan in December 2020," the Tribune report stated. Thereafter, nine sessions of technical negotiations were held between April and May t h i s y e a r , h o w e v e r , disagreement persisted on many articles of the agreement.

According to the Pakistani daily, more sessions and interaction at the policy level would be needed to resolve the points of disagreement and finalise the APTTA 2021.

Fauci warns of new Covid variant spreading rapidly in UK

S top infectious disease Uexpert Anthony Fauci has warned of the risks

of a new Covid-19 variant, first identified in India, which is now spreading widely in the UK.

The Delta variant, known by the scientific name B.1.617.2, has spread from where it was first discovered in India to over 60 countries, according to the World Health Organization, a news agency reported.

More than 6 percent of the sequenced Covid-19 infections in the US trace to the highly transmissible Delta variant, Fauci said on Tuesday. The variant has become the dominant strain in the UK, accounting for an estimated 60 per cent of new cases, replacing the B.1.1.7 strain, according to Fauci.

He called on more Americans to get vaccinated to keep the new variant from proliferating across the country.

Suicide car bombing kills 3 soldiers in northern Afghanistan

hree Afghan soldiers and Tan assailant were killed a n d t h re e s o l d i e r s

wounded in a pre-dawn Taliban suicide car bombing in the country's northern province of Baghlan on Thursday, a local army source confirmed. The assailant tried to carry out a car bombing against an army base in Bagh-e-Shamal locality of provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri city early Thursday, Abdul Hadi Nazari from the army's 217th Pamir Corps told Xinhua.

"When the soldiers manning the base opened fired, the vehicle exploded, resulting in the killing of

the terrorist aboard the vehicle and martyrdom of three soldiers," he said. The militants failed to cause massive damage to the base after the soldiers in the first gate of the camp responded to the attacker, he said.

The attack came as violence lingers in war-torn Afghanistan as the U.S. and NATO troops have been leaving the country. About 3,500 U.S. forces and 7,000 NATO troops will withdraw from Afghanistan before Sept. 11, the day marking the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that drew the United States into war in the country.

Myanmar authorities open newcorruption cases against Suu Kyi

ew corruption cases Nhave been opened against Myanmar's

deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other former officials from her government, the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar said on Thursday.

The cases are the latest of a series brought against elected leader Suu Kyi, who was overthrown by the army on Feb. 1 in a coup that has plunged the Southeast Asian country into chaos.

The state newspaper quoted t h e A n t i - C o r r u p t i o n Commission as saying the accusations related to the misuse of land for the charitable

Daw Khin Kyi Foundation, which she chaired, as well as earlier accusations of accepting money and gold.

It said case files had been opened against Suu Kyi and several other officials from the capital Naypyidaw at police stations on Wednesday.

"She was found guilty of

committing corruption using her rank. So she was charged under Anti-Corruption Law section 55," the paper said. That law provides for up to 15 years in prison for those found guilty.

Cases Suu Kyi already faced ranged from the i l legal possession of walkie-talkie radios to breaking the Official Secrets Act. Her supporters say the cases are pol it ical ly motivated.

The army overthrew Suu Kyi saying her party had cheated in November e lect ions , an accusation rejected by the previous election commission and international monitors.

Realme Smart TV 4K 43 reviewt takes more than a good-Iquality display and audio for a smart television to

justify its ‘smart’ moniker. Unfortunately, most products, especially in the budget segment, simply slip mediocrity on the pretext of smart experience. Thankfully, there are some smart televisions like the recently launched Realme Smart TV 4K (43-inch) that come close to meeting the expectations. It is one of the few smart televisions in the budget segment that cover a wide spectrum of features and services for a comprehensive smart TV experience.

For starters, the Realme Smart TV 4K 43 is powered by Android 10 TV, which gives it access to apps and services supported by the Google operating system for smart televisions. Therefore, you can navigate and explore the new-age content available on over-the-top platforms like YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, etc, or simply watch the conventional cable channels by plugging in a set-top box. Besides, the TV has Google Chromecast built in for easy transmission of content from supported smartphones, tablets, and PCs on the television’s screen. These are some basic features available with every smart television powered by the Android operating system. What gives the Realme Smart TV 4K an edge is the niche features coupled with wide connectivity

so the availability of one on the Realme Smart TV 4K impresses with its sharpness and detailing. The support for two most commonly used high dynamic range (HDR) standards also proves useful, especially while consuming supported content available on OTT platforms. But the otherwise dim panel, with no local dimming, makes the on-screen content, including HDR content, unrealistic because of the mediocre contrast ratio it manages to pull off. The bright parts of the screen look fine but the blacks look greyish and often marred with colour banding issues. Even on the SDR content, there is a greyish layer that covers the entire frame.

As for the sound, the 24W quad-speakers (two tweeters and two full-range speakers) fail to lift the audio experience despite being powered by Dolby Atmos and DTS Studio audio. Though loud, the speakers lack depth and clarity. They are certainly not enough to elevate the TV’s audio-visual experience.VerdictPriced at Rs 27,999, the

Realme Smart TV 4K 43 is a comprehensive package that is better than most peers. It ticks all the right boxes to justify its ‘smart’ moniker by covering features and services that are usually ignored by most brands in their budget offerings. The TV’s screen and audio leave some room for improvement but its affordable price tag covers for these otherwise glaring compromises.

which is less congested. Important to note that the dual-band Wi-Fi is a router-specific service.

The Realme Smart TV 4K 43 is undoubtedly worthy of its ‘smart’ moniker, but how are the screen and audio quality? Well, these are certainly not its areas of strength. Not that the screen is bad or the speakers sound muffled, but they are not great either.

Starting with the screen, the Realme Smart TV 4K 43 sports a D-LED panel of 280 nits of peak average brightness. It supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. There are not many 43-inch televisions with 4K UHD resolution screens,

the TV cuts corners on internet connectivity. Thankfully, the Realme Smart TV 4K 43 covers both wired and wireless connections right. Besides the RJ45 LAN port for wired internet connectivity, the Realme Smart TV 4K 43 supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4Ghz and 5GHz) – something rarely available in budget smart TVs. The 2.4GHz band is congested beyond hope and creates conflict with other wireless devices like Bluetooth speakers, soundbars, earbuds, etc.

Dual-band Wi-Fi addresses this issue by allowing internet services over the 5GHz band,

options and I/O ports availability.

The Realme Smart TV 4K 43 is among the few with far-field microphones in the television itself for hands-free operation powered by Google Assistant. Though you cannot operate the TV entirely due to the limitations with Google Assistant, it proves immensely useful if you have other smart home devices like bulbs, plugs, fans, air conditioner, air purifier, cameras, etc.

The thing with smart TVs is that they heavily rely on the internet to render smart services. Therefore, the experience can go for a toss if

Google officially unveils new TWS Pixel Buds A-Series at $99

f t e r a c c i d e n t a l l y Aannouncing the Pixel B u d s A - s e r i e s o n

Twitter, Google has now officially unveiled its new TWS earbuds for just $99.

The Pixel Buds A-Series is now available for pre-order in the US and Canada, arriving to customers by June 17.

essential," the company said in a statement on Thursday.

"We have scanned thousands of ears to make Pixel Buds A-Series fit securely with a gentle seal. In order to keep the fit comfortable over time, a spatial vent reduces in-ear pressure," it added.

The new Pixel Buds A-Series come with Adaptive Sound, which increases or decreases the volume based on the surroundings.

Lack Of Rural Healthcare System

During A Pandemic?

ompared to the first Cwave in 2020, the second wave of 2021

saw a sharp increase in the number of infections and deaths in rural parts, which account for 65% of the country's 1.3 billion population. Given the precarious state of health infrastructure in rural areas, the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has asked the government to prioritize testing and immunization in these areas. The Indian rural healthcare system has been developed as a three-tier system of health care infrastructure in rural areas.

Primary health care system in sub-center and one health worker female or ANM and one health worker male whereas Primary Health Center (PHC) has one medical officer in charge and 14 subordinate paramedical staff with 6 sub-centers one referral unit for 4-6 beds and

needs of the poor and downtrodden. A doctor in government service must compulsorily serve in rural areas before getting his first promotion.

Young doctors at the grassroots level need to be sensitive towards patients and their families. The private sector needs to work with altruism, commitment, and missionary zeal to provide modern and affordable health facilities in rural areas and bridge the urban-rural divide. Medical associations should campaign to educate people to prevent lifestyle diseases that are slowly entering rural areas as well.

A pandemic like COVID-19 reminds us that the public health system is the main social institution in any society. The government has made several efforts to bridge the gap in the public health system through schemes such as the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, 2019, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, etc.

However, substantial investment time is needed to build a health system that can withstand any kind of public health emergency.

despite having 30 bedded hospital/referral unit for 4 PHCs with specialized services in a large institution Community Health Center (CHC) we faced huge problems.

Only 11% of sub-centers, 13% of primary health centers (PHCs), and 16% of community health centers (CHCs) in rural India meet the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS). Only one allopathic doctor is available for every 10,000 people and one government hospital is available for 90,000 people.

In many medical institutions, innocent and illiterate patients or their relatives are exploited and allowed to know their rights. Most of the centers are run by unskilled or semi-skilled paramedics and doctors are rarely available in rural setup. In an emergency, patients are sent to the care hospital of their acquaintance where they become more confused

and easily deceived by a group of health workers and middlemen.

The non-availability of basic medicines is an ongoing problem of rural health care in India. The number of nurses in many rural hospitals is far less than required. Existing health centers in rural areas are under-financed, use low-quality equipment, are short in supply of medicines, and lack qualified and dedicated human resources. Medicines are often not available in rural areas. The supply of basic medicine in rural areas is erratic. This problem has deepened when people are returning to their villages due to the lockdown imposed in the metros.

There is a need to provide affordable medical facilities to people living in rural areas and encourage medical colleges to encourage students to visit rural areas and understand the health

AFTERNOON VOICE, MUMBAI 11Different StrokesIn the country where the

interest rates on FDs and bank deposits are

decreasing, in the meantime, various schemes of the post office have come as a relief for the common man. These post office schemes are not only safe and risk-free, but they also give returns up to double that of bank deposits. This is the reason why common people believe the most in post office schemes despite investment options like mutual funds and shares.

Actually, we are talking about the Post Office Public Provident Fund Scheme i.e., PPF. The government has now declared an interest rate of 7.10 percent on PPF under the rates announced on small deposits. The government changes it from time to time. But despite these changes, the interest rates in this scheme do not come down much. A person can open only one account under this scheme. Under PPF where you can make at least Rs 500 in a financial year. You can deposit any maximum amount in it. But you will get exemption under Section 80C of Income Tax up to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh. The interest income on maturity will also be completely tax free. It has a maturity period of 15 years and can be extended thereafter in blocks of 5 years.

The Finance Ministry revises the interest rate every three months. The interest rate for the June quarter is 7.1 per cent. The Finance Ministry will take a decision on the interest rate on June 30. The interest income is transferred to your account at the end of every financial year. According to the current rate, if you invest Rs 100 daily, then after 15 years when it matures, you will get a lump sum of Rs 989931 which will be completely tax free. Your total deposit over 15 years will be Rs 547500.

You also get the benefit of a loan against PPF. From the financial year from which you start investing, you get a loan facility from the next financial year. This facility is available for a period of five years. You can get a loan up to 25 percent of the amount deposited in your account.

Loan can be availed only once in a financial year. The second loan will not be available until the first loan is repaid. If the loan is repaid within three years, the interest rate will be only 1% per annum.

Premature withdrawal is allowed. In terms of withdrawals, withdrawals can be made once in a financial year after a lock-in period of five years. This can be up to 50% of the amount deposited in your account. In the case of premature closure, it is allowed if the account holder becomes ill or

for higher education of self or children. For this some charges are deducted.

New Rules for Post Office Account Holders: An account for savings account (small savings) is mostly opened in India Post (Neighbouring Post) Savings Account. Now, like banks, the Post Office account also needs to increase the balance limit. If not done till April 1, Rs 100 will be deducted from your account. It is a form of mining, which has become necessary to keep a balance deposit in the savings account of the Post Office, which has come back with guaranteed profits from the savings account for a long time. PO will give you details about which rules the Post Office has changed and which new service has been launched. Let me inform you that the department of posts has increased the money made in the India Post account from 50 to Rs. 500.

If your account does not have about Rs. 500, these last year’s working days will be deducted on the basis of a fine of Rs. 100 from your account after 31st March 2020. It will be done every year. If zero rupees are found in your savings account, your account will be closed. Interest rates are changed every 3 months. By submitting form 15H one can avoid paying tax for your investments.

What’s changed in PFC, Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme Account! The post office has not made any change in the rules for opening of accounts for Kumaris, Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme, PPF account, Cinemar Citizens Savings account, and Mental Deposit Scheme (MIS) account.

Sukanya Samriddhi Account 250, PPF 500 MIS and Senior Citizens Savings Account (savings) will be opened with Rs. 1, 000. Based on the new rules, if an account is in the account of the running, the account is Rs. So, Rs. 100 will be deducted from his account as a juramana. Your account will then be closed.

Prateik Babbar calls 13-years in Bollywood a 'rollercoaster ride'

Remembering Jeevan on his

birth anniversary

eevan was born into an Jaristocratic Kashmiri Pandit family. His grandfather, a

nobleman, served as the Governor of the Gilgit Agency. His mother died during childbirth and he lost his father when he was three years old. From an early age, Jeevan wanted to be an actor as films had always fascinated him. Since his grandfather was the Governor, their family was considered among the nobility. As a son of such a family, joining films would not have been accepted as films were considered taboo, so Jeevan ran away from home at the age of 18 and came to Bombay with only Rs. 26 in his pocket.

Actor Prateik Babbar has been in the Hindi film industry for over a

decade. He calls it an eventful journey with lots of ups and downs.

Prateik made his Bollywood debut in 2008 with the coming of age romantic film "Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na". He was then seen in movies such as "Dhobi Ghat", "Aarakshan", "Ekk Deewana Tha", "Baaghi 2", "Mulk", "Chhichhore" and "Mumbai Saga".

Talking about his 13-year-journey in Bollywood, Prateik told a news agency: “It's been one hell of a rollercoaster ride. There have been lots of ups and downs but so far so good."

"Every person has his or her own journey. Mine has been quite an eventful one but hey

no regrets except for a few because of which I lost a few years of my life but otherwise no regrets," he added.

Prateik, who is the son of politician-actor Raj Babbar and late veteran star Smita Patil, is looking forward to his upcoming journey.

"It's part of my journey and me becoming the person I am.

It has been a very eventful journey

and I am looking forward for the

rest of it," he said.
