Voorwoord / Introduction

Op zondag 18 februari 2018 vormt de vestingstad Hulst het decor voor de tweede editie van de Vestingcross,

een veldritwedstrijd die vorig jaar zijn intrede maakte op de internationale kalender cyclocross van de UCI.

De meest ‘Vlaamse’ stad van Nederland wordt op dat moment even het centrum van wielerliefhebbend

Europa. Als organisatoren zijn wij verheugd te kunnen rekenen op een ploeg van goede en enthousiaste

medewerkers die zich ten volle inzetten om van deze cyclocross een succesvol geheel te maken. Hiervoor

willen wij hen dan ook bedanken. Een bijzonder woord van dank wensen wij ook te richten aan de sponsors.

Zonder hen zou dit gebeuren niet kunnen plaatsvinden.

Tenslotte danken wij nog het bestuur van de stad Hulst, de hulpdiensten, de UCI, de KNWU en de mensen

van Wielervereniging Zeeuws-Vlaanderen die hun volledige medewerking verlenen om dit gebeuren tot een

geslaagd einde te brengen.

Wij kijken er naar uit jullie te mogen verwelkomen op deze tweede editie van de Vestingcross Hulst.

On Sunday 18th February 2018, the ‘Fortress city’ of Hulst will be the setting for the second edition of

the ‘Vestingcross’, since last year a new entry on the UCI’s international cyclocross calendar. At that day,

the ‘most Flemish’ city of Holland will become the center of cyclingloving Europe. As an organiser, we

are delighted to count on the support of a team of great, enthusiastic co-workers, who are dedicated to

make this new race a succes. Therefore, we would like to thank them. Also, a special thanks to all of our

sponsors. Without them, it would be impossible to organise this event.

Finally, a big thank you to the city counsil of Hulst, the emergency services, UCI, KNWU and the people of

the cycling organisation Zeeuws-Flanders. Thanks to their cooperation, we are able to take this event to a

succesful ending.

Technische gegevens / Techical specifications

Deze wedstrijd Formule C2, welke voorkomt op de internationale kalender en wordt verreden volgens de UCI reglementering, is de tweede editie van de Vestingcross Hulst. De elite/U23 wedstrijd start om 15u00, dames om 13u45, junioren om 11u00 en nieuwelingen 10u00 + nieuwelingen meisjes om 10u02. Tussendoor is er nog een gentlemenswedstrijd om 12u00, de Brico Doe Het Zelf Cross. Het prijzengeld is conform de UCI/KNWU voorschriften voor het seizoen 2017-2018.

This formula C2 race, which is an official date on the UCI’s international cyclocross calendar and will be organised in line with UCI regulations, is the second edition of the Vestingcross Hulst. Elite/U23 race starts at 15h00, ladies at 13h45, juniors at 11h00 and novices 10h00 + novices girls at 10h02. In between, there will be a gentlemens race at 12h00, the Brico Do It Yourself Race. Price money in accordance with UCI/KNWU regulations for the 2017-2018 season.

De omloop / Race track

Zowel start als finish zijn gelegen op de Glacisweg, een brede, geasfalteerde buitenweg rond het centrum van Hulst. Een startlijn is op deze plaats aangebracht met 8 startvakken van 75 cm breed en 10m lengte. De omloop is ongeveer 2700 m lang, mooi en zeer gevarieerd met tal van natuurlijke en kunstmatige hindernissen. Ze is overal 3 meter breed, wat de eerlijkheid voor de deelnemers ten goede komt. De omloop wordt gekenmerkt door de stroken op en langs de historische vestingswallen, de doortocht over de oude stadspoort en een oude graanmolen. De aankomst biedt voldoende ruimte aan de organisatie voor de jurywagen en fotofinish installatie.

Both start and finish are located at the Glacis road, a wide and asphalted road just outside the walls around the historical centre of Hulst. A starting line will be applied here followed by a section mark every 75 cm and this 10 meters in length. Total lenght of the track is about 2700 m. It is a nice, very varied race track with both natural and artificial obstacles. The track has an overall width of 3 meter, which’s benefits the race’s honesty. The race track has some remarkable features, such as the strips over and across the fortress’ walls, the passage over the ancient city gate and an old grain mill. The finish area offers plenty of space to the organisation for the installation of the jurytruck and photofinish attributes.
