Davie’s 717th ship is a DPIII Subsea Construction Vessel - launched in October 2013.

The vessel is the first of a three-ship series being built at Canada’s No.1 shipbuilder for export to Norwegian clients.

MULTIFUNCTIONALITY WITHOUT COMPROMISENoexpensehasbeensparedinensuringthatHull717isthebestinclass.Oftenwhenshipsarebuiltwithmultipurposefunctionalityinmind,compromisesaremade.Notonthisship.Hull717isfittedwithaspecially-designedactiveheavecompensatedcranewherebytheunit’smaincomponentsarelocatedunder-decktoensuremaintenanceandoperationintheharshestofenvironments.Thecraneiscapableoflifting250tonnesinupto3000metresofwater.Aspecialnitrogen-basedheavecompensationsystemensuresthatthecranehookandtheloaddoesnotmoveevenwhenthevesselismoving.Thevesselisalsofittedwithanultra-large7.5mx7.5mmoonpoolwhichallowsitemstobedeployedandrecoveredthroughthecentreofship.AlargeROVhangaraccommodatestwolarge,work-classRemotelyOperatedVehicleswhichexitthevesselthroughslidingdoors.

STEERING THE SHIP FROM 13 LOCATIONS ONBOARD

Thisisnotyouraverageship.NotonlydoesHull717haveafullyintegratedbridgesystem,thevesselcanalsobecontrolledfromthirteenlocationsthroughoutthevesselincludingfromtworemotecontrolunits.Thedynamicpositioningsystemusessevenreferencingsystemswhichensurethevessel’ssixelectricalthrusterscanmaintainthevesselinafixedpositionineventheharshestoperatingenvironments.Becauseoftheconfigurationofthethrusters,thevesselcanmoveinalldirections,includingdiagonallyaswellasrotatingperfectlyonitsownaxis.

MORE REDUNDANCY THAN A WARSHIP

The VS4220 Subsea ConstructionVessel is designed to perform a varietyof functions in some of the harshestenvironments. Functions range fromlayingofpipesseveralkilometresbelowthe surface to saturation diving to theoperationofremotelyoperatedvehicles.Operating in mission-critical roles suchas these means ensuring that in theevent of any or even multiple failures,theshipwill alwaysbeable tomaintainitsabilitytoholdpositionandmaneuver.

Thesixenginesonboardprovidetwentytwomegawattsofpowertosixelectricalthrusters. Every system is built in withthreelevelsofredundancytoensurethatthevesselcanholdstation in theeventof multiple flooding, fires ormachineryfailures.

A PLACE TO WORK Hull717isequippedwithawidevarietyofworkingspacesincludingoffices,conferencerooms,controlroomsandmore.EveryworkingspaceisequippedwithLAN,telephones,internetandmore.Operationscontrolroomsareequippedwiththeirownserverswhichareconnectedthroughoutthevesselforplugandplayuse,shouldtheclientrequiretheirownnetworkonboard.Officesandoperationscontrolroomsarealsofittedwiththeirownclosedcircuittelevisionsystemcontrolsandscreenssothatallareasonboardthevesselcanbemonitored.

Crew comfort was always a top priority whenbuildingH717.Allworkingspacesarefittedwithcomfortable Italian leather furniture. Allworkingspaces and offices are also fitted with triple-glazingandsoundinsulation.Refreshmentareasandtoiletfacilitiesarelocatedincloseproximitytoeveryworkingareatoensurecrewandclientscancarryouttheirworkonboardthevesselwithminimaldisruptionandinmaximumcomfort.

LUXURIOUS ACCOMMODATION FOR OVER 100 PERSONNELIt’snotonlythatallcabinsareequippedwithinternet,satelitetelevision,twotelephonesandtheirownbathroom.TheshipisalsobuilttotheComfortClass3notationwhichmeanswehavedoneeverythingpossibletoensurethatpeopleonboardareexposedtotheminimumamountofnoiseandvibrationandthatthereisenoughroomtomovecomfortablyaroundtheaccommodation.Everycabinhastripleglazingsoeveryonecangetagoodnight’ssleepwhileworkcontinues24hoursaday.Everyspacewithintheaccommodationisequippedwithunderfloorheatingaswellasitsowncontrollablethermostatforheatingandairconditioning.Muchlikeahotel,eachcabinalsohasitsownkeycardentrysystem.Theaccommodation is fullyconformantwithall international regulations including those required foroperationson theNorwegiancontinentalshelf.Allequipmentonboard iscertifiedtoEuropeanUnionregulations.

Attention to detail is notmissed on board Hull717.TheinteriorisoutfittedwithItalianimportedleatherfurnitureandexotic,fire-retardantwoodsareakeyfeaturethroughouttheaccommodation.Each cabin is fitted with a Sony Bravia HDtelevision which provides a choice of satelitechannels wherever the ship may be operating.Ergonomic and minimalistic design throughouttheshipmeanscomfortable, airy spaceswhichareapleasuretoliveandworkin.

OnboardH717youcanfindalltheamenitiesyouwouldneedforaprolongedstayoffshore.Thefully-fittedgalleyanddiningroomprovidesalightandairyatmospheretoeat.Thefullyequippedgymprovidesaplacetoworkout.Thelargesaunaisabletoaccommodate8peopleatatimeandhasitsownshowerfacilitiesandchangingareaoutside.Elsewhereontheshipareseverallounges,includingasmokersloungeequippedwithpowerfulextractorfans.Loungesprovideacomfortableplacetorelax.Theshipisalsofittedwithaninternetcafeonthedecklevelsothatcrewareabletosurfthewebwhileontheirbreakswithoutneedingtoretreattotheircabins.Alldecksareservicedbyanelevator.
