    The Hudson Valley is known as a world-class destination for art and wine. As thebirthplace of the oldest existing winery inthe U.S.Brotherhood Winery establishedin 1839and of Americas first and oldest

    art movement (the Hudson River School,1825) art and wine have co-existed here fornearly two centuries. The best of both willbe showcased at the first-ever HudsonValley Art & Wine A Grand Celebration.

    The celebration is curated by the award-winning Hudson Valley Wine Magazine ,which is dedicated to promoting theregions wineries. The magazine paired

    jury-selected artists from the region withtwelve local wineries to create originalworks inspired by these wineries and thebeauty of the area. More than 35 works of art will premiere at the event, held atLyndhurst, the picturesque estate over-looking the Hudson River just 40 minutesnorth of New York City.

    The wineriesAt the beginning of the 19th century, withAmericans eager to reduce their dependenceon products from Europe, the HudsonValley became a pioneering region for grapegrowing. It is now home to more than 30wineries. The participating wineries include

    not only the oldest vines in the country butsome also feature the newest technologies;many have won prestigious awards. Somewineries are known for classic varietals suchas Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; others have

    developed exceptional Cabernet Francs,Rieslings, and even fruit wines and ports.

    The artThe vineyards and farms nestled among the Hudson Valleys picturesque towns havelong inspired artists. Following in the foot-steps of acclaimed Hudson River Schoollandscape painters such as Thomas Coleand Frederic Edwin Church, the exhibiting artists began working with their paired

    winery in 2010. Their works are renderedin varied media, from oils and acrylic tophotography, sculpture, and jewelry.

    The settingThe country retreat of New Yorks notedGould family, Lyndhurst is a Gothic Revivalmansion with elaborately decorated roomsthat house Tiffany pieces and paintings byBouguereau, Gerome, and Daubigny. It wasdesigned ensuring that the final struc-ture harmonized with its country surround-ings. Gentleman farmer Jay Gould evendedicated part of Lyndhursts magnificentgreenhouse to the growing of grapes.

    The eventAttendees will meet the winemakers and tasteselect Hudson Valley wines paired with deli-cious gourmet foods prepared by locallyrenowned chefs in the Wine Pavilion and min-gle with the artists and view their works in theGrand Art Gallery. Notable wine experts,chefs, and restaurateurs will be on hand to addto the enjoyment of all this bounty. Featuredwill be local artisanal products, specialty foods,a silent auction, and an Art & Wine-themedcupcake challenge. Attendees may take homea crystal wine glass and gift bag.
