As the digital revolution continues to permeate deeper into our lives,

and the scale of urbanization continues to grow, video surveillance

systems have become high-definition, interconnected and intelligent.

Video systems are no longer what they used to be, and now impose

increasingly high requirements on storage systems for storing massive

volumes of unstructured video data.

HD — See ClearerCompared with standard definition (SD), HD puts more pixels in the

same image size, increasing the size of the video. The impact of

growing HD video streams poses a new challenge to the processing

capabilities of storage systems.

Interconnected — See FurtherAs urban areas expand, video surveillance needs to cover more

places, and massive video data interconnects and converges thanks to

decreasing networking costs. How to respond to numerous HD video

data streams? This is a new test for the capacity and expansion ability

of storage systems.

Intelligent — Think MoreStatistics show that over 90% of video surveillance data has no use,

while massive video data analysis done manually can distinguish only

10% of valuable data, insufficient to keep pace with today's needs.

More efficient value extraction from massive data is required, which

puts higher requirements on the intelligence of storage systems.

The HUAWEI Video Surveillance Storage Solution provides efficient,

sustainable, and reliable storage for video surveillance recording. In

addition to clear strengths in storage performance, capacity, reliability,

and management, the solution incorporates a number of technologies,

including cloud storage, IP SAN, RAID load balancing, cloud node

backup, resumable transfer, direct file storage, and application clustering.

Quantum leap from SD to HD, and toward intelligent video analysis

Efficient and intelligent:   The video image retrieval efficiency of this

solution is 24 times higher than industry average, greatly improving

the speed and success rate of criminal investigation.

Converged architecture:   One storage platform enables transition

from SD video surveillance to HD video surveillance, and to

intelligent video analysis.

Flexible scalability:   No critical video data will be lost.

Simple: Security and Reliable

Data protection ranging from N+1 to N+4 ■File-level data protection ■1 TB/hour data recovery speed ■

Video streaming remains smooth, ■regardless of how many disks are damaged

or fail. All binary data on the damaged

disks is set to 0.

Backup and DR policies are for important ■cameras to automatically copy data to an

off-site cloud storage system.

Zero loss of critical video data

Scalable: Converged Architecture

Capacity expansion by disk, storage node, ■and storage domain

Online addition of one node within 60s ■Scalable up to 60 PB of storage capacity, ■meeting the long-term storage needs of

many video streams

A unified, user-friendly management interface ■Get started in 1 minute, be proficient in 3 ■minutes.

Five-step basic configuration ■Two-step capacity expansion ■

Traditional interfaces: NFS and CIFS ■HDFS: seamlessly works with Hadoop for ■efficient data analysis.

Success Stories

In nine cities of a Chinese province, 320 Huawei storage systems have been

deployed to store data for 80,000 channels of cameras, 90% of all surveillance

cameras the province. The high-reliability storage systems guaranteed zero data

loss of critical videos.

Relying on its 9-intensity earthquake resistance, sulfur and corrosion resistance,

and wide-range temperature tolerance features, the surveillance storage

solution ensured robust data reliability under harsh equipment room conditions

including a large daytime/night temperature difference.

This solution has contributed significantly to local social security.

Huawei deployed the Video Surveillance Storage Solution at 10 branch offices

of Zhuhai Public Security Bureau.

The professional storage solution could repair bad disk tracks, prolonging disk

service life and preventing data loss.

Storage tiering and unified storage management have enabled resource

sharing, efficient security surveillance, and higher office productivity, laying a

solid foundation for the "safe Zhuhai" project, viewed as a shining example of

how science and technology have helped the police in Guangdong province.

In Jieyang City (which includes nine counties) of Guangdong Province, Huawei

deployed 42 S2600T storage systems with 7 PB of total storage capacity to

store data for 3000 720p and 1080p video surveillance cameras.

The storage systems provide both protection against abnormal system power

failure and the hybrid read/write of 2000 channels of 1080p video streams,

preventing video data loss and boosting video retrieval efficiency by 24 times.

The storage solution enabled police officers to quickly access case-related video

data, greatly contributing to the "safe city" project in Jieyang.
