2 OverviewThe purpose of this document is to provide the procedures for upgrading the Huawei RAN (Radio Access Network) equipment. Procedures for upgrading the Wimax BS and LTE eNodeB are provided. Additionally, any upgrade related configuration steps are provided.
The following outlines the procedures in this document for the system upgrade. Sections are listed in the order of execution. Non-maintenance versus maintenance window sections is indicated. Approximate times are stated for a 200-site system.

3 Wimax BS and LTE eNodeB Software Upgrade
3.1 Archive Wimax and LTE Licenses
In case of rollback (section 4), archive the current Wimax and LTE licenses. Store the Wimax DAT license file and ZIP all LTE eNodeB licenses in preparation for possible rollback later.
3.2 Request New Wimax and LTE Licenses
The V3R5 Wimax and V1R8 LTE releases require new licenses. Request licenses from Huawei support. Typically, Huawei will process the request and deliver the new licenses within 24 hours. The Wimax license should be delivered as a DAT file while the LTE eNodeB licenses should be delivered in a ZIP file.
3.3 Install Wimax BS and LTE eNodeB Mediation Software to EMS
1. In your browser, go to http://<EMS IP>:8090.
2. Login using omcuser/omcuser.
3. Click General.

4. Click Mediation Package Management.

5. Click the Mediation Installation tab.

6. Click Upload.
7. Select the mediation software package for the LTE release. Wait for the package to upload and appear in the mediation list.
8. Select the mediation software package for the Wimax release. Wait for the package to upload and appear in the mediation list.
9. Select both mediation packages in the list and click Install.
10. Monitor the installation via the Mediation Installation Log box.
11. When complete, a dialog will confirm successful installation. If the installation fails, provide the installation log output to EMS support.

3.4 Upload Wimax BS and LTE eNodeB Software to EMS
The following section describes how to transfer the Wimax BS and LTE eNodeB software in preparation for download.
1. Select Software->NE File Transfer.

2. In the NE File Transfer dialog, specify From OSS Client to OSS Server for Direction and DBS3900 Wimax for the NE Type.
3. Click Select and select the folder location of the Wimax BS software. The folder location must contain the software and a software configuration file (XML).

4. Click OK to transfer the Wimax BS software.
5. Repeat the previous steps for the LTE eNodeB software.
6. Specify BTS3900 LTE for the NE Type.
7. Click Select and select the folder location of the LTE eNodeB BS software. The folder location must contain the software and a software configuration file (XML).
8. Click OK to transfer the LTE eNodeB software.
9. When transfers are complete, verify the software appears in the OSS Server tab under Wimax BTS->DBS3900 Wimax and eNodeB->DBS3900 LTE. Full releases will appear under the Software tab.

3.5 Upload LTE eNodeB Common Commissioning Template
The eNodeB software release includes new commissioning files including the Common Commissioning Template (XML). This file contains the common configuration parameters and values. This file is referenced by the LTE Summary Data File for commissioning. Follow the next steps to upload this template into the EMS.
1. Select CME->Template Management.

3. Select the Common Commissioning Template XML file.
4. Confirm the import.

5. Confirm that the template appears in the Custom Template list.

3.6 Download NE Software
3.6.1 Download Software Only to Wimax BS
The Wimax BS may be downloaded during the non-maintenance time to save time during the maintenance window. This does not activate software or reboot the Wimax BS.
1. Go to System->Preferences.

2. Select SWM Preferences.
3. Check the box “Allow this client to forcibly upgrade multimode base station” and “Automatic upgrade BootROM”.

4. Click OK.
5. Select Software->NE Upgrade Task Management.

6. At the top left of the tab, select Create and select Wimax BTS.
7. In the NE Upgrade Wizard dialog, select Upgrade for the Upgrade Type. Select the NEs and use the > button to move it to the right pane. Click Next.

8. In the next dialog, check Software and select the Version.
9. Check Download only.

17. Monitor the progress of the software upgrade in the upper pane of the Upgrade Task Management tab. The upgrade time will vary depending on the number of sites. When the upgrade is complete, the task will appear in the Finish group.

18. You may view the Upgrade Report to view detailed download results.
3.6.2 Download Software Only to LTE eNodeB
1. Select Software->NE Upgrade Task Management.

2. At the top left of the tab, select Create and select eNodeB.
3. In the NE Upgrade Wizard dialog, select Upgrade for the Upgrade Type. Select the NEs and use the > button to move it to the right pane. Click Next.

5. Check Download only. 6. Click Next.

3.7 Execute Pre-Check
Prior starting the upgrade, all Wimax BS and LTE eNodeBs should be checked for current operational status. After the upgrade, this pre-check data will be used as a reference in order to identify upgrade failures.
3.7.1 Execute RRU Topology Configuration Check
With release V3R5/V1R8, if connected RRU fibers do not match RRU topology configuration, the Wimax sector may be shut down. Follow the next steps to determine which sites have this potential issue.
1. Select Monitor->Browse Alarm List.

2. Click Filter…
3. Specify RRU Network Topology Type and Configuration Mismatch and choose Uncleared options.

4. Click OK.
5. Note all the Wimax BS and the RRU chain that have this alarm. These will be reconfigured in Section 3.8 Reconfigure RRU Topology.
3.7.2 Execute NE Health Check
1. Select Maintenance->Network Health Check->NE Health Check.

4. Choose all NEs, Wimax BTS and eNodeBs.
5. Click Next.
6. Click Finish to execute.
7. When complete, select the task under Finished Tasks.
8. Right-click on the task and select View Report.

9. Choose a format and click Open to view the report.
10. Investigate and resolve any “Not Passed” results.

3.7.3 Execute Network Entry Test
A site and sector should be selected for network entry verification prior to the upgrade. A field tech should Execute a network entry test to verify subscriber operational status. The same location should be used for post-upgrade testing.
3.7.4 Execute Throughput Test
A site and sector should be selected for throughput verification prior to the upgrade. A field tech should Execute a throughput test to verify subscriber operational status. The same location should be used for post-upgrade testing.
3.7.5 Execute Drive Test Verification
A short route involving two sites should be selected for mobility verification prior to the upgrade. A field tech should Execute a mobility drive test to verify subscriber operational status. The same route should be used for post-upgrade testing.
3.7.6 Execute Configuration Backup
Prior to executing the retune script, a backup operation should be Executeed to save the existing configuration. If there is an error, it may be necessary to revert back to this configuration.
1. On the M2000 EMS client, go to Maintenance->Backup Management->NE Backup.

2. Select Wimax BTS from the pulldown.
3. Select one or more NEs.

4. Click the Backup button and confirm the backup to start the backup process. This will backup the eNodeB configuration to the EMS server.
5. Monitor the backup process in the bottom pane.
6. Repeat for the eNodeBs.

3.8 Reconfigure RRU Topology
The Wimax BS identified in Section 3.7.1 will need to be reconfigured to change the RRU topology. Follow the next steps.
1. Select Configuration->Wimax Enhanced Configuration.

2. Select Export->BTS Configuration.3. In the Export dialog, select all Wimax BS identified in
Section 3.7.1.4. Export the Device and Radio templates.

5. Open the Device template and go to the RRUCHAIN tab.6. Using the list of Wimax BS and RRU Chains from Section
3.7.1, update the Topology Type column to Balance for each. Balance indicates that two fibers are physically connected.
7. Update the Balance Tail and Balance CPRI column for the second fiber.

8. Save and close the template. No changes are made to the Radio template.
9. Click Import->Import BTS Configuration.

10. Import the updated Device template and the unchanged Radio template.
11. After importing both templates, choose Deployment->Generate Commissioning File.
12. In the Generate File dialog, select the Wimax BS and click Check.
13. Correct any errors from the check.14. Click Generate Commissioning File.15. Select Maintenance->Commissioning.

16. Click New.17. Provide a project name and select the Wimax BS.

18. Select Download Configuration File and choose Upload from NM.
19. Click Finish to execute the configuration change.20. After the configuration is applied check that the RRU
Network Topology Type and Configuration Mismatch alarms have been cleared.
3.9 Activate NE Software

3.10 Set Maintenance Mode
1. Select Maintenance->Maintenance Mode.

3.11 Load and Activate Licenses

1. Select License->NE License Management->Wimax BTS.

2. Right-click on the V3R5 Wimax release and select Upload.

3. Select the V3R5 Wimax license DAT file.
4. Select the new license record to view the Wimax BS license allocations.
5. Multi-select all Wimax BS NEs and right-click to select Modify.
6. Do not modify current license allocations.
7. Ensure Dual Mode RRU feature is set to 3 . Click OK.
8. Right-click on the license record and select Distribute.
9. Monitor the progress of the license distribution.
3.11.2 Load and Activate LTE eNodeB Licenses
1. Select License->NE License Management->Stand-Alone.

3. Choose Load License File.
4. In the Load License File dialog, choose ZIP format and select the LTE ZIP license file.

6. Ensure all NEs are selected and click Finish.

7. Monitor the progress of the license update task.
3.12 Apply LTE eNodeB Golden Parameter Configuration
1. Retrieve the golden parameter update file (MML).
2. Select Maintenance->Task Management.

4. In the New Task dialog, specify the task name and select MML script.

5. Click Next.
6. Check Run Now on the next step.
7. Click Next.
8. On the next step, specify the golden parameter update file, select all eNodeBs, and specify an output file.

9. Monitor the progress of the task. Check the output file for errors when complete.
10. Right-click and choose Synchronize NE Configuration Data. This will restart the synchronization process after the upgrade.
3.13 Synchronize Configuration Data
After large scale upgrades, automatic configuration synchronization may be delayed. Execute the next steps to manually synchronize the configuration data to avoid this delay.
11. Select Topology->Main Topology.

12. In the navigation tree, multi-select a group of eNodeBs.
13. Right-click and choose Synchronize NE Configuration Data. This will restart the synchronization process after the upgrade.

3.14 Clear RET Alarms
Inter-System RF Unit Parameter Settings Conflict alarms may appear due to RET value mismatches between Wimax and LTE. Follow the next steps to clear this alarm.
1. Select Monitor->Browse Alarm List.

2. Click Filter…
3. Specify Inter-System RF Unit Parameter Settings Conflict and choose Uncleared options.

4. Click OK.
5. Note all the Wimax BS that have this alarm.
6. Select Maintenance->MML Command.
7. Select the Wimax BS identified in step 5.
8. Execute the following MML to clear the alarms.

3.15 Enable New KPIs
New KPIs may be included in this new software release. Follow the next steps to enable these KPIs.
3.15.1 Add Cell Operator KPIs
1. Select Performance->Measure Management.

2. Select the Settings tab.
3. Select the Measurement related to Cell Operator counter subset.
4. Select a NE that does not display a measurement object, and click the Add/Edit Objects function at the bottom of the screen..

5. Select EACH NE that does not display a measurement object and click Batch Add.

6. Check All for both Cell and CnOperator and click OK.

8. Repeat the previous steps for all NEs.
3.15.2 Enable Wimax and LTE Counters
1. Select Performance->Measure Management.

2. Select the Settings tab.
3. Select all NEs in the bottom left pane.
4. Select each subset ID from the left window and Select All KPI counters on the far right.

5. Select all measurement objects from the bottom pane and apply the changes.
6. Repeat this for every subset.
3.16 Execute Post-Check
3.16.1 Execute NE Health Check
1. Select Maintenance->Network Health Check->NE Health Check.

4. Choose all NEs, Wimax BTS and eNodeBs.
5. Click Next.
6. Click Finish to execute.

8. Select the task and view the report.

4 Wimax BS and LTE eNodeB Software Rollback
If a rollback is required, you must rollback the LTE eNodeB software first.
4.1 Execute Rollback

17. Monitor the progress of the software upgrade in the upper pane of the Upgrade Task Management tab. The upgrade time will vary depending on the number of sites. When the upgrade is complete, the task will appear in the Finish group.
4.1.2 Execute Wimax BS Rollback
1. Select Software->NE Upgrade Task Management.

4.2 Set Maintenance Mode
1. Select Maintenance->Maintenance Mode.

3. Select Wimax BS and LTE eNodeB NEs and specify NORMAL.

4.3 Redistribute Previous Wimax BS and LTE eNodeB Licenses
4.3.1 Load and Activate Wimax BS Licenses
10. Select License->NE License Management->Wimax BTS.

11. Right-click on the V3R3 Wimax release and select Upload.

12. Select the V3R3 Wimax license DAT file.
13. Select the new license record to view the Wimax BS license allocations.
14. Multi-select all Wimax BS NEs and right-click to select Modify.
15. Do not modify current license allocations.
16. Click OK.
17. Right-click on the license record and select Distribute.
18. Monitor the progress of the license distribution.
4.3.2 Load and Activate LTE eNodeB Licenses
8. Select License->NE License Management->Stand-Alone.

10. Choose Load License File.
11. In the Load License File dialog, choose ZIP format and select the LTE ZIP license file.

4.4 Execute NE Health Check
1. Select Maintenance->Network Health Check->NE Health Check.

5. Click Next.
6. Click Finish to execute.
