OptiX RTN 980 is 5U high and supports one to fourteen IF boards.

rk Application The OptiX RTN 900 is a new-generation split radio transmission system developed by Huawei. It can provide a seamless radio transmission solution for a mobile communication ne ork or private network.

Th OptiX RTN 900 products are available in three types: OptiX RTN 910, OptiX RTand OptiX RTN 980. Users can select the proper type according to their actual requiremen

The ID The IDU of the OptiX RTN 950 is 2U high and supports one to six IF boards.

The OptiX RTN 910, OptiX RTN 950, and OptiX RTN 980 support the same IF boards and service interface boards.

The OptiX RTN 980, designed as the Nodal equipment, provides several types of service interfaces and facilitates installation and flexible configuration. The equipment can provide a solution that integrates the TDM radio, Hybrid radio, and Packet radio according to the network requirements. It supports a smooth upgrade from the TDM radio to the Hybrid radio, and from the Hybrid radio to the Packet radio. The solution can evolve based on the service

only the 2G and 3G networks, but also the future LTE and 4G networks.

Regionalbackhaul network

In this solution, the regional backhaul network is not necessary because the OptiX RTN 980 can be

directly connected to the RNC and BSC. The OptiX RTN 980 supports PWE3 emulation so that TDM services and IMA E1 services can be

backhauled on the packet switching networks.

1.2 Benefits

Integrated IP Radio with High Bandwidth and High Efficiency The OptiX RTN 980 provides an integrated IP radio transmission system that transmits Hybrid and Packet services with high bandwidth and high efficiency.

The air interfaces provide channel bandwidth from 7 MHz to 56 MHz and support AM modes from QPSK to 256 QAM.

The integrated IP radio is capable of transmitting any or all of the following three types of services: Native E1/STM-1, Native Ethernet, and packet services encapsulated through PWE3. The types of services can be configured by using software. Therefore, the OptiX RTN 980 supports a smooth upgrade from the Hybrid radio to the Packet radio.

The OptiX RTN 980 supports flexible configuration of the transmission modes of various services. The equipment can transmit TDM E1 services, IMA E1 services, and Ethernet services in Native mode or in PWE3 mode.

Each channel of the IP-based radio supports a maximum of 75 Native E1 services or two STM-1 services and a maximum Ethernet throughput of 400 Mbit/s.

The OptiX RTN 980 supports XPIC. The 56 MHz RF channel supports a maximum Ethernet throughput of 800 Mbit/s.

The OptiX RTN 980 supports adaptive modulation (AM) for improving spectral efficiency and ensuring the availability of the services with a higher priority. In addition, priority levels can be set for Native E1 services and packet services.

Adopts a highly efficient encapsulation technology and therefore increasing the packet service throughput over the air interface.

Large-Capacity and Network-Oriented Nodal Equipment The OptiX RTN 980 is the large-capacity and network-oriented Nodal equipment.

One OptiX RTN 980 subrack supports a maximum of radio links in 14 directions. Supports the convergence of the TDM radio, Hybrid radio, and Packet radio services. Adopts the TDM/Packet dual-plane design based on the same platform. The equipment is

a type of large-capacity and network-oriented equipment. − Provides a higher order cross-connect capacity of 128x128 VC-4s and a lower order

cross-connect capacity equivalent to 32x32 VC-4s for TDM services. − Provides a packet switching capacity of 22 Gbit/s. − Provides multiple RF configuration modes, and supports XPIC, N+0 protection, 1+1

protection, and N+1 protection. The TDM plane uses the same platform as that of the OptiX MSTP equipment, embeds

an MADM, and therefore allows interconnection between the OptiX RTN 980 and the OptiX MSTP equipment.

The packet service plane provides various Ethernet service processing functions. The OptiX RTN 980 can be directly interconnected with the OptiX PTN packet transmission equipment. − Supports the MPLS and PWE3 technologies that emulate and encapsulate TDM E1

services, IMA E1 services, and Ethernet services and transmit the services through MPLS tunnels.

− Supports E-line or E-LAN services based on VLAN, QinQ. Supports E-line services based on PW.

− Provides various protections for packet services. − Provides various QoS functions. − Provides various OAM functions, including Ethernet OAM, MPLS OAM, ATM

OAM, and PW OAM Supports end-to-end service grooming by using the U2000 on the network consisting of

the OptiX RTN 980 only or the network consisting of the OptiX RTN 980 and other equipment.

2.1 Overview The OptiX RTN 980 adopts a split structure. The system consists of the IDU 980, the ODU,

IDU 980 80 system. It accesses services, performs

Figure 2-1 IDU 980

ODU The ODU is the outdoor unit of the OptiX RTN 900. It performs frequency conversion and amplification of signals.

The ODU is shared by the OptiX RTN product series. The OptiX RTN 900 product series share a set of ODUs. The OptiX RTN 980 supports standard-power ODUs and high-power ODUs.

There are two methods of mounting the ODU and the antenna: direct mounting and separate mounting.

The direct mounting method is normally adopted when a small-diameter and single-polarized antenna is used. In this situation, if one ODU is configured for one antenna, the ODU is directly mounted at the back of the antenna. If two ODUs are configured for one antenna, an RF signal combiner/splitter (hereinafter referred to as a hybrid coupler) must be mounted to connect the ODUs to the antenna.

Figure 2-2 shows the direct mounting method.

2-3

Figure 2-2 Direct mounting

The separate mounting method is adopted when a double-polarized antenna or big-diameter and single-polarized antenna is used. Figure 2-3 shows the separate method. In this situation, a hybrid coupler can be mounted. That is, two ODUs share one feed boom.

Figure 2-3 Separate mounting

The OptiX RTN 910 provides an entire frequency band antenna solution, and supports the single-polarized antenna and dual-polarized antenna with a diameter of 0.3 m to 3.7 m and the corresponding feeder system.

The convergence ring protects Native E1 and Native Ethernet services on the ring through E1 SNCP and ERPS respectively.

Sites on the ring access the Native E1 and Native Ethernet services of sparse convergence points or access points through the radio link or radio ring. The radio link and the radio ring can be based either on TDM radio or on Hybrid radio.

3.1.3 Packet Radio Convergence Ring Networking Figure 3-3 shows the networking of Packet radio convergence ring. In the networking solution, OptiX RTN 980 sites are set up in dense convergence points and form a convergence ring. The networking solution has the following features.

The convergence ring provides 1:1 protection for the packet services on the ring through MPSL Tunnel.

Sites on the ring access various services of sparse convergence points or access points through the radio link or radio ring. The radio link and radio ring can be based on TDM radio, Hybrid radio, or Packet radio. If the sites access Native services through the radio link, PWE3 is used to emulate and map to Packet services.

Sites on the ring can also access BTS services directly and use PWE3 for emulation and mapping to Packet services in a unified manner.

According to the type of the regional backhaul network, the convergence ring can transmit BTS services to BSC/RNC through the regional backhaul network through multiple service interfaces such as E1/STM-1/FE/GE. The MPLS tunnel can either terminate at the sites on the ring or extend to the packet transmission devices on the BSC/RNC side.

The OptiX RTN 980 can also form a convergence ring with packet transmission devices.
