IntroductionScope of the slideset-1

• This document describes the how to get the PM counter/KPI raw data from the external SW tool “OSS iM2000 client ” using M2000 server. This M2000 server is the external CM/PM/FM server for all Huawei Elements

( Radio, Acces, Core, etc).

• This document also highlights the recommended Huawei Packet Core recommended KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for SGSN and GGSN elements.

• The NSN Recommended SGSN/GGSN KPI’s/counters are already described and will be reffered to these documents.

• Focus is on how to do the daily/weekly/periodically performance activities/KPI collection and performance raw data queries using the M2000 OSS server which is used for the CM/FM/PM activities.

IntroductionScope of the slideset-2

• Recommended NSN KPI’s needs to be clarified/aligned/agreed each time within project which KPIs will be the most useful in practice and their reference/target values together with the customer.

• This slideset needs to be frequently updated once these KPI’s are confirmed and clarified within the projects with best practice.

• Almost all the information in this slideset is based on project documentation and best practice .

• There is currently not hard evidence for all of these KPI description that these are verified according correctness( from live network).

• Each individual project will have their own KPI’s and needs to be agreeing together with the Customer.

• Before agreeing the raw data collection with the Customer, the existing PM counters/KPI could already being inquired and collected for primarily indications of the Customer’s Network Performance.

• Agreeing the Post Process of the PM raw data’s should be with the customer.

IntroductionTools

– The Tools that are required to perform te daily task( FM/CM/PM) will described and explained in later documentation( Huawei Packet Core Internal SW Tools.doc) and all are referred to Huawei Internal tools and products.

– The SW version of the internal tools are related to the Huawei SGSN/GGSN product version and M2000 OSS server.

– Internal Tools that are used for performance measurements is Local Maintenance Terminal(via LMT FTP server and LMT Performance browser tools.). The PM counter/KPI raw data’s without M2000 connection could being performed off-line via the LMT performance SGSN/GGSN Huawei internal tool. All the raw PM data’s will be locally stored on the internal Harddisk of the SGSN/GGSN for 5 days.

– It is the main O&M tool of Huawei SGSN/GGSN. Some of its functions, like Trace Management, Real Time Monitoring, Alarm Management can be used to provide additional performance information next to proceeding with the OSS M2000 server.

– External Tool is the OSS iManager M2000 Server for CM/PM/FM management. It provides basic performance statistics functionality. Queries measurement results of counters and KPIs.

Huawei Packet Core PM Overview-1

Huawei system provides a number of tools in order to monitor the performance of the Packet Core Network:

Performance Browse Tool (The performance browse tool is used for managing the

performance measurement tasks and querying the measurement results via the element)

Traces Management Tool (Tracing management is used in equipment routine

maintenance. You can locate the failure in the service procedure by using tracing management) Log Management (The SGSN9810/GGSN 9811 can generate the following log files: operation log file, alarm log file, security log file, system log file, SM (session management) log

file and MM (mobility management) log file.) Real time monitoring of the CPU’s usage (It monitors the CPU usages of the boards. Monitor management has a great impact on system performance. The Monitor Viewer displays the monitored data, which is also stored in an mrf file.

Alarm Management Tool (The Alarm Browse window displays the fault alarms and event

alarms reported by the system. )

Huawei Packet Core PM Overview-2

Huawei provides the following main software tools/system that can be used to monitor the performance of the Packet Core Network:

iManager M2000: It is the Huawei Centralized OSS SW client which could access Huawei 3G WCDMA products and provides O&M/ CM/ FM/PM functions. It provides basic performance statistics functionality. Queries measurement results of counters and KPIs.

M2000 server: This OSS Server follows the server-client concept. Server is centrally located in customer premises and is interconnected to various NE over IP network. It is normally running on Sun Microsystems servers and on Solaris operating systems together with Sybase as database. The M2000 client can be installed in a windows PC and requires only IP connectivity with M2000 server, correct firewall configuration and authentication user rights

LMT (Local Maintenance Terminal): it is the main O&M tool of Huawei SGSN/GGSN NE’s. Some of its functions, like Trace Management, Real Time Monitoring, Alarm Management can be used to provide additional performance information. (Note: Most of the LMT functions can be provided by M2000 as well)

Huawei Packet Core PM Overview-3

The performance measurement counters of M2000 include:

• Original counters in the M2000 by default

• User defined counters manually created through arithmetic operation based on

original counters during the running of M2000

A successfully created user defined counter, like an original counter, can be used to create performance jobs and to define counter templates and thresholds. However, it cannot be used to create other user defined counters

• To connect to the Huawei OSS M2000 server;

– Start the M2000 Client, and log in to the M2000 server( see next slide).

– After logging in to the M2000 client successfully, you can use the client to perform Performance Managament activities.

• Prerequisites;

Before logging in to the M2000 client, ensure that: The M2000 client software is installed. The corresponding M2000 server is working properly. The software versions of the M2000 client and the M2000 server match. The M2000 client communicates normally with the M2000 server.

You have the required user name and password.

Performance Measurement Procedure

When a measurement period ends, the NE collects the measurement results of all counters (common and extended), i.e. the performance data, and reports the results to the M2000. After the mediation layer in the M2000 server analyzes the received results, the performance server saves the results in the performance database.

Figure: Procedure of performance measurements

Counter measurement results are stored both in NE and M2000

Performance management is the M2000 suite that provides performance analysis functionality and can be initiated by menu “Performance” in M2000 menu bar:

Left click on “Performance” ( See next slide)

With network performance management we can:

• Apply KPI queries on specific objects and time segments

• Store performance counters for all NE

• Activate/De-activate counter reporting from NE

• Check integrity of measurement results

• Create alarms based on KPIs

• Create extended/customized counters and KPIs

Recommended Packet Core KPI

• Performance measurement system contains several measurement families of the same attribute.

• Each measurement family contains several measurement units that are composed of different measurement items.

• Same structure as for the SGSN • The GGSN9810 is restricted in measuring traffic volume in the following aspects:

Measurement Period

The GGSN9810 can report all items. Based on measurement period, a measurement task is classified into the following types:

Short-period task: 5 minutes

Long-period task: 30 minutes

• For details on measurement sets, measurement units, and measurement items of the GGSN9811,refer to the HUAWEI GGSN Performance Metrics Reference.pdf ( Descriptions of each performance counters)
