AN INVITATION TO SING HU

You are invited to try this simplespiritual exercise. It has helped peopleof many different faiths open theirhearts more fully to the uplifting pres-ence of God.

To do the exercise, first get comfort-able. Close your eyes, and take a few deepbreaths. Next, gently put your attentionon your inner visual screen, where day-dreams and images come to you.

With your eyes closed, sing HU(pronounced like the word hue) as asong of love. There are many ways toexperience the love of God. You maynotice a feeling of peace, warmth, andcomfort. You may also recognize thepresence of the Divine through greaterspiritual insights into your daily life.

When you sing HU and sit in quietcontemplation, you might also perceivethe inner Light and Sound. The Lightmay appear as brightness or colors onyour inner visual screen. The Sound maybe musical or the sounds of nature, suchas the wind or the ocean. However youexperience the presence of God, it isbringing you a broad!;r understanding ofthe life you lead.

HU is woven into the language of life.It is the Sound of all sounds. It is thewind in the leaves, falling rain, thunderof jets, singing of birds, the awful rumbleof a tornado. . . . Its sound is heard inlaughter, weeping, the din of city traffte,ocean waves, and the quiet rippling of amountain stream. And yet, the word HUis not God. It is a word people anywherecan use to address the Originator of Life.
