Project Description

The purpose for this project was to create 8 diff erent book covers that would work as a set from an existing publisher.

For this case is the “Penguin Publishers” and the writter is Stephen Crane whose books are about the American Civil war.

Taking in considerantion all of this, the end result is the use of Penguin rules for layout and matching images for the story of the books.

In the end it was also required to create a box for the set of books.

A.GREY.SLEEVE

A.GREY.SLEEVE

SYNOPSIS

The Red Badge of Courage (1895) is a vivid psychological account of a young man’s experience of fi ghting in the American Civil War, based on Crane’s reading of popular descriptions of battle. The intensity of its narrative and its naturalistic power earned Crane instant success, and led to his spending most of his brief remaining life war reporting. The other stories collected in this volume draw on this experience.

Stephen Crane

SYNOPSIS

Stephen Crane (1871-1900) was an American novelist, poet and journalist. He is best known for his novel Red Badge of Courage (1895). The novel introduced for most readers Crane’s strikingly original prose, an intensely rendered mix of impressionism, naturalism and symbolism. He lived in New York City a bohemian life where he observed the poor in the Bowery slums as research for his fi rst novel, Maggie: A Girl of the Streets (1893), a milestone in uncompromising realism and in the early development of literary naturalism. He became shipwrecked in route to Cuba in early 1897, an experience which he later transformed into his short story masterpiece, The Open Boat (1898).

THE.SNAKE.

THE.SNAKE.

SYNOPSIS

The snake had apparently been crossing the path in some mystic travel when to his sense there came the knowledge of the coming of his foes. The dull vibration perhaps informed him, and he fl ung his body to face the danger. He had no knowledge of paths; he had no wit to tell him to slink noiselessly into the bushes. He knew that his implacable enemies were approaching; no doubt they were seeking him, hunting him. And so he cried his cry, an incredibly swift jangle of tiny bells, as burdened with pathos as the hammering upon quaint cymbals by the Chinese at war for, indeed, it was usually his death-music.

“Beware! Beware! Beware!”

THE.THIRD.VIOLET

THE.THIRD.VIOLET

SYNOPSIS

“The Third Violet” may come as a surprise to readers familiar with Stephen Crane’s classic novel, “The Red Badge of Courage.” Crane wrote “The Third Violet” in 1895, in response to his new-found fame as a realist. His goal was to stretch his literary achievement beyond war stories to write a romantic tale. “The Third Violet” is the story of impressionist painter Billie Hawker’s romantic courtship of New York socialite Grace Fanhall. Doglovers will especially enjoy scenes featuring Billie’s Irish Setter, Stanley. Although it was not one of the author’s own favorite works, readers who enjoy romance will surely enjoy the light, charming story from a different era a time when the deepest of feelings could be held in a single, tiny violet.

THE SCOTCH.EXPRESS

THE SCOTCH.EXPRESS

SYNOPSIS

The entrance to Euston Station is of itself suffi ciently imposing. It is a high portico of brown stone, old and grim, in form a casual imitation, no doubt, of the front of the temple of Nike Apteros, with a recollection of the Egyptians proclaimed at the fl anks. The frieze, where of old would prance an exuberant processional of gods, is, in this case, bare of decoration, but upon the epistyle is written in simple, stern letters the word “EUSTON.”
