LAMP was found to locate within the cell in the same compartment as the Major Histocompatibility Complex – type II (MHC-II). This observation had important ramifications to the development of DNA-based vaccines and Dr. August and JHU were awarded a patent in 1997 for the application of LAMP to genetic vaccines.
