From the Principal . . .

There will be new teachers at DIS in Term Three with four current teacher’s leaving.Firstly, regrettably, Tess Burrows the Junior Preschool teacher has tendered her resignation due to a serious family medical situation. We thank Tess for the short but wonderful contribution she has made to DIS and wish her family well. Four teachers who have been with DIS for some time have decided to move on. Samantha Brumpton, Chris Hyde and Lucy Clapham are heading off to pursue travel and career advancement. Jennifer Lobb, who has been with DIS for 1 ½ years is reducing to part time to study. Yulia Prikhodko returns home for family responsibilities.Jennifer Lobb will continue with her grade 5/6 class and share responsibilities with another teacher. Over the previous months we have been conducting a search to procure good teachers for these positions and appointments will be announced in coming weeks.

School TimesPlease ensure that your child is at school on time every day. Playgroup/Junior Preschool/Preschool: 9am-12pmPrimary Classes: 8:45am-3:15pmSecondary Classes: 8:30am-3:00pmA number of teachers have noticed students coming late to school. It is vital that students are on time to school, so that they can make the most of all learning opportunities. Please also ensure that your child is picked up from school on time. ParkingPlease do not park in front of the main gate at either campus. Students may be dropped off in front of the main gates, but please do not block traffi c by parking directly in front of them. This is especially important at the Lower Campus, when it becomes very busy at drop off and pick up times. (For more information, please see ‘Car Parking’ in the DIS Family Information Book.)Term Dates, Public Holidays and Pupil Free Day. Term 2: Wednesday 7th April- Friday 11th JuneTerm 3: Tuesday 20th July- Friday 24th SeptemberTerm 4: Tuesday 5th October- Friday 10th Dec

Transition - Highlights of Term II

In Literacy we have been practicing the alphabet and learning how to write each letter correctly... Above: Manuel is working on his handwriting.

Every week we have guided reading, when we read interesting stories focusing on the letters that we have already learnt.

We read, discuss and learn

We have also been talking about our feelings and wrote about the way we feel in different situations.

In Numeracy we have been learning how to count to 50 using games and

concrete materials. It’s a lot of fun.

In Science we have been talking about minibeasts. We have looked for them in the playground. One of our favourite minibeasts is the butterfl y. They are fascinating!

They have four stages in their metamorphosis. They start as eggs, hatch into larvae making pupa, and fi nally transform into butterfl ies. This is called a lifecycle!

Left: Great work, Brandan!

Right: Go, James, go!

Above: We used lots of colours to decorate

our butterfl ies.

Every Wednesday students from the Lower Campus are invited to join in games and fun with MsYvonne. This term we have been learning two outside games Robin and Her Nest and Crocodile,Crocodile. Once we finish our outside games we go inside to play. We all enjoy playing our gameswith our friends. Below are the instructions on how to play one of our outdoor games

Robin and Her Nest

We divide ourselves into groups of 4. Thenwe wait in our hoop nests for the teacher tosay go.

When the teacher says go, we run to the basket ofeggs in the centre and collect one egg for our nest.

We can also steal eggs from other nests. Once we have an egg we place it into our nest.

When the teacher says “Stop!” we return to our nest. The winner is the team with the most eggs in theirnest.

Then we return all the balls to the baskets in the middleand return to our nests. We are ready to start again!

After school games ... with Ms Yvonne
