ROSS SOBEY August 30, 1967 – September 22, 1992

His career continued at the junior level where he competed in two National Junior Championships. When Ross moved to Senior Baseball with the Moncton Mets, he remained a dominating force around the province. Unfortunately, Ross had to terminate his baseball career when he developed cancer. Friends remember Ross for his strength and courage. One friend recalls: “Ross never, ever had a negative thing to say about anyone or anything. He was simply an excellent person and friend.” Ross is survived by his parents, Ashley and Keitha and his two sisters, Barbara and Erin. In memory of his strong work ethic and positive attitude, the Ross Sobey Memorial Trophy is presented annually to the Most Valuable Player on the Harrison Trimble Senior Boys Basketball Team.

At the age of twenty five, one of Moncton’s finest young athletes passed away due to cancer. Ross Sobey, the son of Ashley and Keith Sobey of Moncton, was a highly respected athlete in the community who dedicated a large portion of his life to sports. His efforts and attitude towards people and sports were admired by many. Growing up, Ross attended Harrison Trimble High School, where he excelled both athletically and scholastically. His favourite sports were baseball, basketball and hockey. As an athlete he was a leader both on the diamond and on the hard-court.

TROJAN BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME

The idea for the Basketball Hall of Fame came from wanting to honor the rich tradition that our basketball Alumni had set in place for the teams that came after them. The foundation of the Trojan Basketball Program was set over 40 years ago and has remained unchanged since then. Trimble’s program has always had a blue collar attitude, valuing hard work, determination, dedication, loyalty and team work. It is these attributes that led us to our inductee’s. These people have shown how the skills and lessons learned on a basketball court, transfer into successful lives. The hard work, determination, dedication, loyalty and team work that they demonstrated as Trojans has been evident in their careers and their families. They represent the Trojan Traditions, which the present team strives to attain. It is very important for the present players to understand that a successful program is steeped in the traditions of all the players that have came before them and when they put on a Trojan Basketball Jersey, they represent every player that has worn a Trojan Basketball Jersey. It is that Trojan Pride that other schools try so hard to imitate. This year’s inductee’s are responsible for creating these traditions and pride that is unmatched in this province. Biography of Dr. Herbert Harrison Trimble

Dr. H.H. Trimble, born September 7, 1897, played basketball for the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton, N.B. during his graduation year in 1916. Before H.H. Trimble could move on to University, he first had to serve his country as a Canadian soldier in the First World War. Upon returning from WWI, H.H. Trimble chose to attend the University of New Brunswick. During H.H. Trimble’s time at U.N.B. he was the captain of the championship winning football team in 1921. He played basketball for two years (1921-1922) as centre and team manager, winning the championship title in 1922. He also received the Sir Frederick Williams – Taylor Medal (Awarded to the Athlete of the Year) for the three years he attended U.N.B. (1920, 1921, & 1922). In 1939 (Seventeen years after Trimble’s graduation from U.N.B. with his B.A.) H.H. Trimble once again left his country to fight for its freedom in the Second World War as the rank of Captain. As a phenomenal athlete and Dr. Trimble was a veteran of both World Wars, H.H. Trimble lived his life to the fullest. Always willing to lend a helping hand to the community of Moncton, even to the end of his days.
