Boys’ Undercover Reading Program

This year, the boys in grades 2 to 6 have been recruited for a

very special top-secret assignment in the library. If you’ve over-

heard boys discussing B.U.R.P- don’t be alarmed, they haven’t

forgotten their table manners - it’s our code name for the Boys’

Undercover Reading Program!

B.U.R.P is a boys-only reading club that takes

place in the library once a cycle. All the boys in

the grade are invited to the library to talk books,

read, talk, and read some more. It is one hour of

not-silent-reading, where boys can share books,

comics, magazines, graphic novels and other guy-

approved literature.

Recent studies in literacy are indicating that there’s a growing gap

between boys and girls when it comes to academic achievement.

This gap is “driven primarily by performance differences in liter-

acy.” To improve these grim statistics our aim is to get more guys

reading! For more information check out http://www.guysread.com/

*Burp! Oh, excuse me! If you have any extra books, magazines, or comics at home

that are in good condition and might be good B.U.R.P material, ex. sports or video

game magazines, spooky stories, information books, or general gross stuff, please

consider donating them to our B.U.R.P reading program. Please contact Ms. Borden

for more details.

Scholastic Book Fair Nov.26th - Dec.3rd A big thank you and merci to our volunteers for setting up and helping run our current Book Fair as

well as our French Book Fair held earlier this Fall. Your help ensures the great success of these

events. Last year`s support for our school book fairs allowed us to purchase 12 new computers for our

library as well as many, many books for our library and classrooms.

Environmental News:

We would like to thank all our families for their generous donations of winter clothing for the

VOCM Coats for Kids program again this year. Your donations will help keep a child warm this

winter. Way to go HTE! Recycle! Recycle! Recycle!

Did you know that every beverage container you bring to our school helps our school?

Did you know that when you donate your containers MMSB matches the refund so we get double?

Did you know that if you bring your recycling to us, your child has a chance to win an individual prize?

Next Recycling Blitz is Friday, December 5th. We appreciate your support.

Please keep us in mind when donating your Christmas ‘spirits’ recycling. We are able to accept

glass bottles. The first Recycling Blitz of 2015 will be on Fri., January.9th.

Operation Christmas Child

This year we filled 135 gift boxes which will be distributed throughout

the world to children in need. Started as a Grade 1 initiative, this

generous act of giving to others has spread to other grade levels. Next

year we hope to fill many more boxes at all grade levels.

We Play, We Learn

Holy Trinity was abuzz with fantastic games

and activities to celebrate Play and Learn Week. We really showed that learning takes

place wonderfully with fun and laughter!

Lots of ghosts, clowns, super heroes,

princesses and more showed up for

school on Halloween! It was fun day with

class parties and a class visit to the

“Bat Dance”.

Bus Monitors

This Fall a number of Grade 6 volunteers met with Mr. Rudy Singleton of the NL

Safety Council to receive bus monitor training. Thank-you to all our students

who are safe, respectful and

responsible travelers on our buses.
