Recommendations for use of ear protection and limited

periods of work in noisy areas

Simple earmuffs are to be used in all areas where the noise levelexceeds 80 dBA. Double ear protection (earmuffs and ear plugs) isto be used in all areas where the noise level exceeds 95 dBA.Reduced periods of stay are to be introduced in all areas where thenoise level exceeds 90 dBA.

    * If an employee has reached his/her maximum period of stayfor one day, he/she is to work in areas that are not defined asnoisy zones only (i.e. in areas where the noise level is lower than80dB(A)) for the rest of the work day.

** Noise levels >95dB: the maximum period stay may be reducedif the noise frequency, the ear protections noise muffling qualities, the type of work or other working environment elements dictatea further reduction of the period of stay based on the above-listedvalues.

Recommendations regarding muffling values for useof ear protection:

When using ear protection, the following muffling values can beused (ref. SINUS):

Communication headset: 8 dB(A) Normal ear protection (ear muffs): 10 dB(A) Form-cast ear plugs / normal ear plugs can give an additional

noise reduction of approximately 5 dB(A)

The use of ear protection will depend on the type of glassesused and noise frequency, among other things.

Recommendation for selection of ear protection ifneed for change (damage/worn-out)

Earmuffs:Peltor H79, Peltor Optime III , Peltor H540Form-cast ear plugs: Elacin, Duocom or Clear Sound with filterRC15

Those who need to have communication, and who hasexperience with the use of Elacin ear plugs, wish communicationin the ear plug, should use Duocom ear plug (for right of left ear, with filter ML01).

Provision of form-cast ear plugs:For provision of form-cast ear plugs contact team leader forclarification of noise in connection with the work and a cost
