SEEN YA'SON SHOW

AARON BAKER FORM: DESIGN PROJECT - INDUSTRIAL DESIGNWine buffet/Hutch For my major work I decided to make a wine hutch. It is built out of Australian hardwood.

The species of hardwood I chose were White Mahogany and Antarctic Beech. I chose two different species of wood to add a different contrast of color throughout my project.

I chose to make a wine hutch because the main purpose was to be able to put all the dining table stuff away, for example salt and pepper shakers and place mats. The joints that are in my project are dovetails, pins rebate, biscuits dominos and many more little techniques to impress the markers to be able to get the best result out of it.

BLAKE BAKER FORM: DESIGN PROJECT - INDUSTRIAL DESIGN Curved Credenza For my major industrial design project I have decided to make a Curved Modern/Retro credenza TV Unit. The Australian hardwood timber I decided to use was Blackbutt, Tallowwood and Camphor Laurel. I chose to make a TV unit because I will need a TV unit in the future. This can be designed to have many different techniques involved in it, which is a part of the marking criteria. I wanted the carcass to contrast with the drawers, Tambour door in the middle and hand cut out parquetry. Made from, blackbutt, plywood, etc, the main techniques I am using are, Mitered joint, dovetail, pinned rabbet, curve sides, domino joints, etc. I really encourage all people to create wooden projects like I am and to pick Industrial Technology in years 11 and 12, and build an amazing project like I have, knowing that it’s going to last a lifetime.

MIA BENSON FORM: CREATIVE FICTION - ENGLISH EXTENSION 2Verdict This interactive short fiction is intended to explore the fragile nature of human life, in regards to the conscious decisions we make, and how they have the ability to drastically alter our paths.

The story uses the ‘branching narrative’ format to follow the life of an indecisive protagonist who, throughout the narrative, faces multiple ‘pivot points’ in which one of two choices must be made. These alternatives are ultimately decided by the reader. In this way, the form of my story mirrors the issues at the heart of the text.

OLIVIA BLYTHE FORM: APPAREL - TEXTILES AND DESIGN Feulles D’automne I have been inspired by the 1930’s evening gowns and the season of Autumn. The orange fabric with a subtle lustre that is like the autumn leaves falling from the tree with sunlight shining through. I have handmade the flowers that appear on the bodice of the garment.

The back of the dress is a low back with knife pleats that follows my inspiration from the 1930’s evening gown. The low back of the dresses bodice is met with an inverted pleat that follows through to the bottom of the skirt. This dress is fitted and creates a very feminine look to the body, making it elegant and pleasing to the eye. This dress is made to be worn to formal events.

FORM: VIDEO DRAMA - DRAMA The Bear Essentials My video drama is about keeping the ones close who stick by you no matter what. The short film takes you on a journey with a girl who is off to university. While packing, she comes across her childhood teddy who she disconnected from throughout her teenage years. Seeing this comfort toy reminded her of the struggles she has been throughout her various stages of life. My goal for the audience is to remind them of the value of connection and the moments and mementos that help create your identity.

MIA BURFOOT FORM: APPAREL - TEXTILES AND DESIGN Frills in Spring I wanted to do a top and a skirt with a floral design because I liked the look of it.It was important to me that it matched to make a whole outfit. I like the look of the colour that I did. I really like how the pattern has a diagonal frill hemline. It was so much fun making it.

SPENCER BURNET FORM: CREATIVE FICTION - ENGLISH EXTENSION 2 Facades“Facades” is a work of fiction chronicling a handful of days in a married woman’s life. As the story progresses, it becomes everclear her ordinary suburban life is a front for an abusive relationship. Painfully, no one character throughout is able to recognise her reality, and a self-revolving cycle is revealed.

This unholy trinity of love, normalcy and violence challenges our personal views. But, more prominently, Australia’s problematic relationship with domestic violence is portrayed. Hollow, tokenistic gestures complement our society’s incredible ability to allow the elephant in the room to continue hiding.

TAI CRISMALEFORM: PIP - SOCIETY & CULTURE Caught in a Bad Romance - an analysis of why adolescents stay in unhealthy romantic relationships Ahhh, young love. So fascinating, but also so detrimental. Unhealthy relationships are not an uncommon occurrence in one’s teen years, and this new experience more than often ends in suboptimal circumstances. But what happens when this occurs within the relationship, rather than after? Why would one choose to continue with these suboptimal circumstances? Who knows? This PIP does.

FORM: INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE - DRAMA Free Churro My monologue presents the tortured mindset of a man at his mother’s funeral, examining the complex relationship dynamics that have altered his perceptions of her. Taken and adapted from the animated American sitcom BoJack Horseman, the piece assesses whether people are what they choose to be or whether they are a product of their environment.

Nate DohertyFORM: DESIGN PROJECT - Industrial Technology Entertainment Cabinet I am making an entertainment unit for my Industrial Technology major work. I have designed this entertainment unit because I want to have a place to store my vinyl records, as I have become a record collector. It will also house a record player and a speaker, for enjoyment in the home. Finally, it will be great to have a stylish piece of furniture when I move out of home.

The main body will be constructed from Bloodwood which has a rich deep colour red. The legs will be turned from Rosewood which will make a nice colour combination.

The main features of the unit are the tilt-down drawer that will store records. In addition, the cabinet has a pullout shelf that will house my record player, with an adjoining shelf for a speaker. The reason that I have enjoyed this course so much is that you can take some simple wooden planks and create a beautiful, purpose-built piece of furniture that I will enjoy forever, and which can be passed down to future generations.

MAXYN DORZFORM: DIGITAL WEBSITE - ENGLISH EXTENSION 2 The Time Traveller’s Guide to HumanityThis work is an exploration of man-made tragedies throughout history, and highlights the irony of ‘humanity’ in the face of so many atrocities. In the form of a website, the visual motif of a nervous system features links down the spine which branch off into stories that prove our inability to learn and grow from past mistakes. The purpose of this work is to reframe history in an abstract way, encouraging an authentic sense of horror for the crimes committed.

FORM: PIP - SOCIETY & CULTURE Just one more episode... The rise of Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) platforms such as Netflix and Stan has significantly altered the way we consume media, making it easier than ever to watch whatever we want, whenever we want, whether we’re near a television or not. Is this abundance of choice and control a positive or negative development? How do services keep us engaged so effectively? What does the future look like for SVOD services, and what might this mean for us?

FORM: SCRIPT - DRAMA Aquila AudaxA homicide detective struggles to navigate the conflict between his bitter, rebellious brother and devoted, manipulative mother upon returning to his hometown. The detective is forced to confront his own guilt, memories, and identity amid the context of the extreme views of the isolated outback QLD town. All the while, his current murder investigation begins to appear disturbingly familiar...

MAX ENGLERTFORM: DESIGN PROJECT - INDUSTRIAL DESIGN Liquor Cabinet I have decided to design and craft a modern/contemporary liquor cabinet from locally-sourced high quality native Australian hardwoods, which specifically include White Mahogany and Blackbutt on my project. I decided to make a liquor cabinet as a gift to my parents, since their current liquor stowage situation is cluttered and messy.

Cabinets also feature a basic design that can be modified to your desires, for example, my drawer will be using dovetail joinery. As well as a drawer, it also sports a door and two open areas at the bottom for storage of taller glasses. Other joinery techniques include dominos, biscuits, pocket holes and mortise and tenons. I highly recommend students to elect Industrial Technology for year 11 and 12. It teaches you many furniture making techniques and is a very rewarding subject. You will be looking at your timetable in anticipation, waiting for your next Industrial class!

TAYLA HALL Form: TEXTILE ART - TEXTILES AND DESIGN Beneath the SurfaceThe garments I have made have been inspired by the movement of water, and life underwater. The movement of water is depicted in the chiffon robe, as it was hand dyed and floats in the wind, to look like the rolling waves of the ocean. Lfe underwater is reflected on the bodice that is layered underneath the robe in order to show the cohesion between the two pieces. The bodysuit has been hand dyed to look like the deeper waters of the ocean, and features hand embroidery that depicts life underwater, such as coral, seaweed, and small fish. There is also an applique of a mantaray on the back and jellyfish on the front. The garments were also heavily inspired by feminine designs in history, such as the corset which was very popular during the late 18th century. Marabou robes, made popular by famous actresses such as Marilyn Monroe, inspired the shape of the robe.

ELI HAYESFORM: CREATIVE FICTION - ENGLISH EXTENSION 2Welcome to Brookwell A famous crime fiction author has been convicted of the murder of his wife. The judge assigns him to serve his time at Brookwell State Health Unit, a prison that tries to provide therapy to violent criminals, permitting their rehabilitation into society. At the same time, an employee at Brookwell begins a diary about his work, hoping to alleviate the monotony of his job as a CCTV technician. Statement of purpose: Individual problems require individual solutions. But what happens when no one cares about the damage the solution could cause? How far do we go in the pursuit of a happy, healthy, stable society, and who defines those terms? Do people who have committed heinous crimes still deserve a sense of autonomy over what happens to them, or have they become Hostis humanti generis, enemies of all mankind?

FORM: ANALYSIS - HISTORY EXTENSION The Role of Historians in Addressing the National Myth of Manifest Destiny and the Rise of Donald Trump A Hippocratic Oath for Historians? This is an examination of the role of historians in public discourse, through the lens of Manifest Destiny and Donald Trump. It aims to examine both how historians create and influence national narratives, as well as whether historians have an obligation to consider the possible harm caused by ideologies or narratives they propagate.

JASMIN HENSON GALLARDOForm: DRAWING - VISUAL ARTS Inter/connectedMy drawings combine to represent cultures from around the world. Stringing together the idea of multiculturalism and diversity while illustrating the continued struggle to overcome individual/cultural differences to function better as a society. The composition of each piece is manipulated to create a crowd-like flow when all are viewed as a whole, representing the ideal multicultural society - complete acceptance and tolerance. However, each cultural group is actually isolated within their piece - only interacting with their own people and portraying a flawed system.

FORM: PIP - SOCIETY & CULTURE Is it because I’m a woman? Customs vs. Human Rights: Analysing the cultural challenge of Female Genital Mutilation/Circumcision in western countries. Affecting at least 200 million women worldwide Female Genital Mutilation/ Circumcision is a cultural tradition existing in at least 30 countries around the world. My research project aims to explore the cultural clashes and experiences of FGM/C practicing communities and surviving women when they come to interact/ live within western society. Pulling into question the bounds of multiculturalism and the extent to which a culture has the right to interfere with another’s traditions.

KIANA LANEFORM: VOCALS - MUSIC 1 Pulled - The Addams Family Musical This piece from the musical The Addams Family written by Andrew Lippa, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice.

The song I am singing is sung by the character Wednesday. She is singing about falling in love with a boy and not knowing how to handle these feelings because they go against everything her family believes in. Wednesday is their macabre beloved daughter, however she is now an 18 year old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke - a sweet, smart boy from a normal respectable Ohio family, the most “un-Addams” sounding person one could be. To make matters worse she has invited the Beinkes to their home for dinner. It’s a dark comedy set in New York City.

CLAUDIA LARGE FORM: PIP - SOCIETY & CULTURE The War on Drugs - The People vs Big Pharma - an Evaluation of who should have controle of the use of drugs in society The distinction between illegal drugs and legal drugs is complex and clouded in misconceptions and contradictions. This PIP will look into the history of big pharmaceutical companies (Big Pharma) in western countries and the power and influence they hold in relation to changing policies and attitudes towards both medical and recreational drugs. This PIP also looks into the effect of people power, and the influence it has on governments and Big Pharma alike.

Is Big Pharma corrupt, or does it have the people’s best interests at heart? Can the same be said for the government? All of these questions will be further explored within “The War on Drugs - The People vs Big Pharma”.

WILLIAM MACKIE FORM: EXPRESSIVE DRAWING - VISUAL ARTS Mo dhìleab (my legacy) In creating Mo dhìleab, I have rediscovered my Scottish ancestry and traced my family lineage back 24 generations to Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland (1306 AD). The culture, traditions and ‘legacy’ that my forefathers fought and died to protect has survived time to be passed down for me to continue. This is something that I uphold as an integral aspect of who I am and how I define myself. I have embraced this through the learning of the Bagpipes and the wearing of the Tartan.

In my work, my self portrait gazes back through the veil of time, rediscovering the very roots and beginnings of my history. The central Standing Stone symbolises the spiritual and cultural link between the past and the present and serves as an enduring testament to my people. The stone also cuts the work down the middle to symbolise the past (right) and the present (left). Angus Dubh Mackay the 7th Clan Chief is one of my oldest traceable ancestors, and with the other figure, these two highlanders represent the connection to my heritage.

ESTELLE MALLIAFORM: APPAREL - TEXTILES & DESIGNLa robe de bal émeraudeMy main inspiration is Wicked the Musical as it is apparent in the emerald satin used. A traditional corset has been replicated for the bodice. I have been inspired by diaphanous fabric which is seen in the bodice panels and the panel on the skirt. The vivid emerald green ball gown features three dimensional hand embroidered and beaded embellishments on the waistband, bodice panels and skirt. They are in the shape of snowflakes.

FORM: CREATIVE FICTION - ENGLISH EXTENSIONRe-ToldMy major work “Re-Told,” is a portfolio made up of six creative fiction stories inspired by Hiroshima (John Hersy) and The Book Thief (Markus Zusac). I write the same story from two points of views, both 1st person and 3rd person, allowing the reader to see multiple sides of the issues. There is a motif of celestial imagery which helps illuminate the dominating ideas of the story.

FORM: INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE - DRAMABecoming a lady My monologue is a reconstructed piece based on the various stage and film adaptations of Picnic at Hanging Rock. Portraying Mrs Appleyard; a posh, uptight and strict teacher, throughout the monologue I allude to the fact that her student, Sara, may not be real and just a figment of her imagination. Thus alluding to the possible dark side of Mrs Appleyard and the secrets surrounding the rock.

ALEXANDER McMilLanFORM: DESIGN PROJECT - INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGYBedside Table For my major work I wanted to construct a modernist bedside table. I have been using locally sourced native hardwoods such as Tallow and White Mahogany. This is because the woods have some excellent properties such as colour, toughness and resistance moulds but it also supports local business.

The reason I chose to make a bedside table is the current one I have is not as functional as I think it should be, it is also old and a little worn. In this bedside table, I’ve used several techniques not particularly associated with modernist furniture just because I wanted to have an element of classic joinery, including wedged mortise and tenons in my large drawer, half-blind dovetails in my small draw and pplined mitres in my carcass. All of this should come together to make a clean and appealing bedside table with lots of stunning joinery.

I would definitely encourage anyone looking at technology to do Industrial Technology. There is nothing like being able to make an amazing piece of furniture with your own hands and it is the perfect subject to take you away from all your studies and stress, just to focus on making something that is yours.

CONNOR MCMILLAN FORM: SCULPTURE - VISUAL ARTS Lost in the Wire ‘Lost in Wire’ is a series of three sculptures that visually represents the Japanese proverb “Everyone has three faces”. The first face is the one you show everyone, it’s almost like a front or shield that hides the real you from the world. The second face is the one you show close friends and family, It opens up but only a little bit. The final face nobody sees but yourself, this sculpture is completely open revealing who you really are and all your vulnerabilities.

FORM: TEXTILE ARTS - TEXTILES & DESIGN Space Oddity I have constructed a jacket which has been inspired by the likes of David Bowie and Elton John. Both have worn flamboyant outfits and have produced space themed songs. For example David Bowie’s Space Oddity album and Elton John’s Rocket Man both featured metallic colours and stars. This coat also features beaded initials on the back shoulders as a tribute to Elton John.

The coat is constructed using 100% silk taffeta outer and lining in bright blue, red and white with white ruffles stitched on the side back panels.

GEORGINA MORRALL FORM: PAINTING - VISUAL ARTS Intertwined My painting aims to visually represent the concept of biocentrism - a theory that extends values to all living things and in that sense all of nature, the opposite of anthropocentrism. Basically, the interconnectedness of humanity and the natural world. This is achieved by a plethora of layers intertwining the anatomical human figure with plants, flowers and other expressions of nature. The work also visually represents a holistic and conceptual idea of humanity, by highlighting the brain and the heart with flowers that symbolise their intangible human essence.

FORM: PIP - SOCIETY & CULTURE Till death (or divorce) do us part - An analysis of the ongoing significance of the institution of marriage in Australian Western society. Approximately a third of marriages in Australia end in divorce, so why do people still bother entering into an institution that ‘fails’ almost as often as it ‘succeeds’?

Traditional marriage is an ingrained institution in our society, possibly due to socialisation, but is the rise of divorce rates, the legalisation of same sex marriage and the reality of de facto relationships changing the significase of the institution?

JUliette oliver FORM: PIP - SOCIETY & CULTURE “FaceBook told me so” - An analysis of the impacts that social media supported conspiracy theories has on general society. Did man really land on the moon? Was the U.S election dogged by fraud? Was the coronavirus manufactured by the Chinese government? If you take a scroll through any social media platform, it won’t take you long before finding a radical conspiracy theory being promoted by an online user… maybe even someone you know. This research project delves into the impacts that such conspiracy theories have on society in terms of interactions, relationships and the consequences of a complete distrust in authorities.

clancy remond stephen FORM: DRAWING - VISUAL ARTS Tom My artwork is a collection of multiple line drawings of my dad ‘Tom’ conveying his unique personality and nature. Each individual piece is drawn from life. The freehand portraits are firstly drawn with black felt pen and then etched with a dremel onto perspex. This series of varied individual drawings each capture and represent a different side or element of his personality, collectively they make up who he is. ‘Tom’ illustrates a unique person with all these different little elements brought together through realism yet as a whole also abstract both in the visual and the conceptual.

INDIKAH SANSON FORM: VOCALS - MUSIC 2 Fly Me To The Moon In 1960 Peggy Lee released the song on the album Pretty Eyes, then made it more popular when she performed it on the Ed Sullivan Show. It has a long history of being sung by many different artists. Some of the well known ones are Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones to name a few. Frank Sinatra’s 1964 recording of Fly Me to the Moon became closely associated with NASA’s Apollo space program. I’ve really enjoyed learning to sing this piece as it is a Jazz classic and is a style of music that is new to me.

FORM: COSTUME - TEXTILES & DESIGN Bad Ass Love This outfit consists of a one piece combination of bodice, shorts and skirt. I was influenced by Valentines Day, the colours red and black and two sets from Royal High called ‘Shadow Empress’ and ‘Dragging Train Rose Dress’. The outfit features a central love heart and chains with a choker neckline.

BROOKE PARKER FORM: PHOTOMEDIA - VISUAL ARTS Symptomatic Experiencing the effects of G.A.D & panic disorder on a daily basis, my work ‘Symptomatic’ attempts to visualise the impact of mental disorders on sufferers. My recontextualisation of Old Masters’ works with the contemporary use of Surrealism & photo manipulation challenges our perception of the depictions of mental illness throughout history, as well as the role of photography in making the concrete, surreal. Further, my work manipulates personal & emotive responses, showcasing self expression as equally as important as the tangible.

FORM: CREATIVE NON-FICTION - ENGLISH EXTENSION 2You, Myself and Them My work was inspired by the perseverance of human nature, and the turbulent, often paradoxical lives we lead. My work, in the forms of imaginative writing, personal discursive discussion, and comparative analysis of Citizen Kane and The Unbearable Lightness of Being, are centred around the presence of contrasts, and solipsistic ideas. With recurring imagery of oppositions such as light & dark, I attempt to convey the ever changing state of human experiences, and the difficulty to express oneself honestly.

Ali sodeau FORM: APPAREL - TEXTILES & DESIGNSakura Blooms I have been inspired by cherry blossoms that are seen in the fabric colours and flowers embellishing the dress. Winter has also inspired this piece which can be identified in the white, sparkly overlay tulle.

It is designed to be a formal dress worn to a one off event. I wanted to create a piece that captures the eye with a glance. The long, full, sweeping A-line skirt moves easily and gracefully.

The dress features laser cut cherry blossoms and hand embroidered grub roses on the cuffs, waist and dress hem.

carla strydom FORM: ANALYSIS - HISTORY EXTENSIONSaddam Hussein and the Destruction of History. To what extent does Saddam Hussein’s reconstruction of Babylon represent the corruption of History? This project is an investigation into the way histories are created, corrupted and recreated. Saddam Hussein’s reconstruction of Babylon not only reconstructs the site itself but attempts to create a new ‘history’ of his role as Iraqi leader. Furthermore, a new ‘history’ has been created as a result of the US military intervention in Iraq.

BEN TYLER FORM: DESIGN PROJECT - INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGYCoffee tableI have decided to make a floating coffee table out of Australian native and naturally grown hardwood like Tallowood and White Mahogany.

I choose to make a coffee table to put in my parent’s house for now, but I will eventually take it with me when I move into a house. I also wanted it to match my perfect idea of a coffee table, which I used many techniques from different coffee tables and put into one.

I wanted the carcass to float above the legs, and I wanted all of this to be a blonde timber. The main techniques I am using is mortise and tenon, domino joints, biscuit joints, dovetail joint, triforce joint, pinned rebate joint, mitre joints, mitred dowel joint and many more joints and techniques.

I encourage anyone who likes to work with their hands and whoever loves to make furniture that will last for generations, to do Industrial Technology in year 11 and 12 as it is so much fun.

DEVI SINHA FORM: PIP - SOCIETY & CULTUREShelf awareness To what extent is the increased use of screens leading to declining literacy rates in Australian high school students? This personal research project is about the analysis on BDC students’ screen time and the connection with their literacy skills.

Does the age of the introduction to screens play a major role on the child’s future literacy skills ? Do literacy skills play a major role in what career option a child will have in the future? Based on personal experience throughout my school years I have noticed the link between high screen time and decrease of literacy skills over the decade. I have also noticed that students who read more books are more confident in their speaking and vocabulary than those that aren’t.

I personally believe that this is a growing issue and this PIP explores the consequences of what a decrease in literacy can really do to a young population.

hospitality All activities within this competency based course are designed to assist students with the development of the skills required in order to achieve a Certificate II qualification. The outdoor learning space project has me many of these competencies. Students have:

• Completed Work placement: Attending various food premises, students worked within commercial timeframes to simulate real world skill.

• Worked within WHS requirements: Studying the legal requirements of working in Hospitality, handling and serving

food, students have gained an intimate understanding of their legal responsibilities.

• Catered several food functions: Even with the challenges of COVID, the students have still been called upon to cater and even serve at a couple of college functions.

• Worked within a team to achieve a common goal: Seen Ya’s On Show is further evidence of the students ability to work together to produce positive outcomes.

• Planned and organised work tasks: On a weekly basis , students have had to plan and organise work tasks to fit within the required time frame.

TYLER WIDDOWSON FORM: INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE - DRAMA Ivar the BonelessFor my individual project, I decided to gowith the monologue option, as I love taking on new characters and the thrill that performing in front of an audience gives me. Taken and adapted from the historical drama series Vikings, my piece is on the famous viking Ivar the Boneless, who is the cripple son of the great Ragnar Lothbrok. I wrote my monologue to showcase the many characteristics Ivar has, keeping the audience on their toes with his constantly changing and unpredictable personality.

CHARLES VERGUIZAS FORM: FIRST PERSON SHOOTER - SOFTWARE DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT Scorpions LairMy major software project is a first-person shooter styled game. The game was made using the Unity Game engine with scripts written in C#.

I approached the game development from the ground up, meaning that I concentrated on getting the game mechanics working first. This included a first-person character controller; a camera controller; a menu system; shooting with ray-casting; enemy AI; player and enemy health; weapon switching and an ammunition system. These features are what form the basis of my game, and allow the game to function smoothly.

Once the basics were functioning, I could then focus on level design, terrain layout, gameplay animations, textures, lighting, assets, sounds effects and background tracks. These secondary elements add characteristic and stylistic values to the game, giving the game its own unique flavour.
